Emery was leaned against Amari’s side, an earbud in his right ear. It was rather inconvenient, stretching the cord more when Amari was sitting on their left side with an earbud in his own ear.
The wanderer paused for a second, his eyes slowly moving over to look at Emery. “Sorry, um, what?”
Emery shifted slightly, sitting further up on the dingy couch in their cabin. He pursed his lips, wondering if it was worth the absolute embarassment to repeat it.

The Mist spits him out.
The world was smoke. It coiled around his body and stung anywhere it touched. His mind was woozy; his vision blurring in and out, the chairs in front of him doubled so much so he could barely tell what is real and what is fake.
His body burned. The air was hot and oppressive—so hot it was getting a little hard to breathe.
Amari has to deal with the aftermath of a plane crash, confusion, and a face he cannot—for the life of him—remember.

“Promise me,” Yan gripped their hands tighter, so tight her nails dug into their skin but she noticed Taylor didn’t say a thing, focusing on the girl in front of them as she held their hand, desperate.
“Promise me you won’t leave,” She begged, voice cracking, and she had to struggle with the words that threatened to chip away at her further. “Promise me you won’t be dead when I wake up—dead before I make an antidote.”
Yan watched a flurry of emotions take over their face—but Taylor only reached out and brushed the hair out of her eyes, gently, with the arm that had caused all of this. The arm that was bandaged and dirty and bloody, but not to help an injury—
to hide the bite.

Emery gave him another smile that made his heart skip a beat—before he realized it wasn’t just skipping a beat, it was actually starting to speed up. And not because of the alluring magician next to him.
A sudden shock went through them both, momentarily disorienting them before the information got through to their heads. They’d been detected.
“Em—” Amari reached out to grab his hand, since he was the one with better reflexes; but for once Emery beat him to the punch, frantically grabbing his wrist and yanking him towards a locker.
