    Summary

A blizzard that feels like it lasts a lifetime -- to Zuko at least, Sokka just wants the Fire Lord to quit complaining about the cold -- but what happens during it spans further than a single life.

Two years after Sozin's Comet, the Fire Lord accepts an invitation to the South Pole, and finds becoming Fire Lord wasn't the only thing destiny held for him.

    Summary

Zuko had never excelled at anything. Azula was a prodigy. Uncle always knew what to say. And Father... Father was strong, iron-like. But Zuko had only ever been good at surviving. Putting one foot in front of the other in a grim show of stubborn determination, gritting his teeth and bearing it. Survival was all he had ever been taught. He knew how to do it. So when he was kidnapped by the Southern Water Tribe, he expected to fight as he always had. He didn’t expect to be taught instead how to live.

In a warring land, the Water Tribe forgave the enemy in an act of defiance. For this, he was torn from them, and this time, his wounds won't heal so easily.

Forced back into nothing but survival, the last person Zuko expected to see was Hakoda's son. Hakoda was a promise of safety. The relentless blue of Sokka’s eyes was a promise of happiness. Zuko could have both if he just reached out his hands, but he found them clutching into fists. After all, he’d been burned one too many times.

But hey, at least between Hakoda and Sokka, Zuko could appreciate the family resemblance of pure, asinine stubbornness.

"I met Sokka when Aang arrived here to master fire bending, and we have been friends ever since.” Iroh laughed, “Though the plucky young boy I originally met is a far cry from the warrior he has become! Quite handsome as well,” Iroh winked at him.

Zuko felt like he was losing the will to live.

    or

Iroh is stepping down from his seat on the council to retire, and has decided to choose his own replacement.

    Summary

[Time passes oddly. Between one second and the next, Sokka has the Fire Lord pinned to the wall with his hands around the bastard’s throat. Golden eyes (one gold eye, his mind whispers) widen in shock.

“Sokka?” he chokes out. And then he smiles.

    What the fuck?

    “Sokka, I—”

Sokka slams his head against the wall, once, twice, and the smile wipes off his face. Good.

What,” Sokka bites out, “have you done to my sister?”]

    Or:

An injury leaves Sokka with amnesia. His last memory is of the failed invasion, of leaving his father behind in enemy territory on the Day of Black Sun. Of hopelessness. Rage.

But then he wakes up, and the war is over. Suddenly, he must come to terms with the fact that years have passed, and that he's somehow the Southern Water Tribe Ambassador to the Fire Nation. He is also supposedly friends with banished-Prince-turned-Fire-Lord Zuko, of all people. Close friends.

    Yeah, nah.

    Summary

Zuko doesn’t have time to deal with pressure for an arranged marriage, especially since he isn’t even sure he likes women that way. (A realisation that has absolutely nothing to do with Ambassador Sokka - shut up, Suki.) Katara and Aang have broken up again, and the Northern Water Tribe are pushing for a match between the North and South.

Which leads Zuko and Katara to develop a genius, foolproof, only slightly drunken plan: they can pretend to date for the length of Katara’s stay in the palace, giving them both a brief reprieve from political pressures on their love lives.

    What could go wrong?
