Hidden amongst her notebooks, however, was a book Hermione did not recognise. It was black and bound with leather. It looked old-fashioned, with metal corner protectors and other gilded details. Bound within was thick paper, which had been handsome in its day but had started yellow along the edges.
Hermione flipped through it; it was blank. The only writing was embossed in more gilding on the back.
