Summary
Somewhere in the multiverse, Pepper saves the world and pays the price. Tony lies in a coma, not expected to survive, and a grieving Steve Rogers is named as Morgan's legal guardian:
“Hey, Cap. You should probably have a seat for this one.” On the video, Tony took another sip of coffee. “You’re going to want to kill me. But sadly for you, if you’re watching this, things have gone wrong for my little family. Pepper and I are dead already. Vegetables. Whatever. You’ll have to hash out your feelings of impotent rage vis à vis me with your support group. Anyway, let me cut to the chase here: I’ve named you Morgan’s legal guardian. I’ll give you a second to pick your jaw up off the floor.”
Steve sank slowly to the bathroom tiles; Tony was right. He did need to sit down for this one.
“You over it? Good. Look, I should’ve asked you; Pepper thinks I did. And you know, I thought about it, but if I’d asked you, you might have said ‘no,’ and I couldn’t let you say ‘no,’ Cap. I just couldn’t. Pep and I don’t have a deep bench, okay? Our folks are dead, and when you’ve got no family, your options are limited. But you know that. And that is yet another reason I picked you.”

“You’re the artist?” she asks, knowing the answer but maintaining decorum nonetheless.

The clock ticks quietly away the time and the coffee cools and in the bedroom, Dodger shifts, that slow waking that has been creeping up on him as the years pass.
“I know that you don’t want any part of this century. I know that we aren’t the people you lost. I can’t imagine what it was like, to wake up the way you did. And I’ve tried to give you space, because you don’t owe us anything. And maybe it isn’t fair of me, to come to you with this. But--he’s a kid, Captain. He’s a kid and he’s one that Peggy loved. He’s Howard’s kid.”
“He’s a twenty-four year old owner of a multinational weapons company.” Steve says, mildly.
“Well,” Fury says, a smile twisting his lips. “Tony’s always been older than his years, and younger than them, too.”
