“Undertaker. You still breathing?” Meryl asks flatly, even though she can see his shoulders moving just enough to settle the pit in her stomach she’d been ignoring until then. It loosens entirely when his head snaps up in response to her voice, his eyes wide, sand flying, sunglasses slipped to the tip of his nose.
A toothy grin splits his face at the sight of her, and she manages to bite back a smile in turn. “Oh, thank the heavens above,” he gasps, melodramatic, and he reaches his arms out vaguely in her direction, vaguely towards the sky. “The big guy hasn’t abandoned me for good after all. Do you have any water?”

“It’s not for me,” Yuki interjects bluntly. When Akihiko blinks, he continues, “I just thought you might want to have something to keep your mind busy, on Monday.”
…Akihiko goes back to scratching his temple. In general, he doesn’t like to have a lot of spare time. Leaves his mind room to wander, and also, there’s too much that he needs to be doing, in lieu of sitting around and doing nothing. What a waste that would be. That’s an always thing, not a Monday thing though, and Akihiko is going to say as much before Yuki adds a third thought:
“Aragaki-san said I shouldn’t throw you a party.”
Oh. Monday. September 22nd. Akihiko frowns at his pencil, then sets it down next to his textbook.
“So you wanted to do… a bouldering party?”
“I wanted to go bouldering,” Yuki clarifies. “You and me.”

“You have to say something if I’m hurting you.”
“You should talk,” retorts Aki, who isn’t helping in the slightest, sitting across the room on Mitsuru’s bed with a textbook open in his lap. He looks, put simply, dumb, a pencil tucked behind his ear and another in his hand. His socks are mismatched. He’s begun looking proper pretty instead of just kid-cute the way he’s always seemed to Shinjiro and thinking about it makes him nervous, and that’s when his palms start sweating, and well, Shinjiro’s trying to comb Mitsuru’s hair right now so he has to think about something else. “You never say when you’re in pain.”
Shinjiro grunts and looks back at his task. “That’s because it’s nobody’s business. But this is my business right now because I am the one brushing the princess’ hair.”
“I really do appreciate the help,” Mitsuru murmurs, with a contrite look over her shoulder—and Shinjiro immediately feels guilty for the lip.
