Work Text:

Bakugo’s phone is ringing. Aizawa stops his lesson and glares at him, “Turn that off, problem child.” Bakugo nods, taking it out and checking who it is before his eyes widen.

“Wait, actually I need to take this.” He sounds deathly serious, thumb already hovering over the pick up button. Aizawa growls, “Then put it on speaker and enlighten us to what is oh so important.”

Bakugo winces, “Alright, but you asked for it…” He does so and immediately they’re blasted by the sound of a screeching train and the sounds of a bustling crowd.

“Kacchan! Oh thank god, I’m so glad you picked up.” It’s Midoriya Izuku, Bakugo’s boyfriend that they've met a few a times, most notably after the sports festival when he threatened their lives if they hurt Bakugo.

“Get to the point, Deku, I’m in class.” Bakugo sounds annoyed but the class can hear the underlying undertone of immense concern.

Midoriya clears his throat, “Righ- Oh, come along, Eri-chan, we need to take this train.” He’s pulled the phone away from his mouth, and they can hear a young girl quietly asking where they're going.

“We’re going to UA.” Aizawa’s eyebrow shoots up, giving a Bakugo a hard look. He shrugs back before turning up the volume.

“Alright, Katsuki,” He ignores Bakugo’s small noise of surprise and wide eyes, “here’s what I need you to do, and I’ll make it up to you later if it causes you trouble but people might die.” The class gasps quietly, eyeing each other with looks of wide-eyed fear.

Bakugo pinches the bridge of his nose, fond exasperation filling his face, “What’d you do?”

“Why do you presume I did anything?!” Midoriya squawks, scandalized. There’s a few beats of silence as Bakugo narrows his eyes at his phone.

“Okay fine, yes, I did it. I may or may not have kidnapped a child from a Yakuza boss.” The class shrieks and Aizawa’s eyebrows raise to his hairline as he whips out his own phone and starts dialling.

“You shitty nerd, what the fuck were you thinking?!”

Midoriya laughs sheepishly, “I’ll be perfectly honest, I really wasn't.”

“Damn right. Now what the fuck do you need us to do?”

Midoriya mumbles “us?” before he elects to ignore it. “I need you to go get my dad and Eraserhead-sensei and then ask Principal Nedzu to expand my security clearance to add a guest. Don't need the gates locking out Eri-chan.”

Bakugo points at Aizawa and mouths, “Please?” at him as Aizawa starts towards the door. “Now tell me what the hell you were thinking, shitty nerd?”

“In my defense, I thought the dude in the bird mask was a pedophile.” Midoriya starts.

“I’d just been walking to pick up some things for my newest project-” He interrupts himself, “It’s a grappling gun that doubles as a taser, do you think Pikachu would work well with it?”

Kaminari groans, “He calls me Pikachu too?”

“Yes and yes, keep going Deku.” Bakugo glares at Kaminari before returning his attention to the phone.

“-when suddenly some little girl in a dirty hospital gown ran into me from an alley. Obviously, I scooped her up and started checking her over, mostly worried about her being a villain attack victim who woke up terrified and ran away from the hospital." He clears his throat.

"When suddenly, some creepy dude in a bird mask approached us from the same alley and tried to say ‘Oh that’s my daughter, thanks for finding her!’ but in a vaguely threatening way. So I did what any sane-”

Bakugo snorts,“Yeah right.”

Midoriya elects to ignore him, “-quirkless teenager trying to protect a small child would. I threw a handful of taser balls at the man, gently set the girl down as he started seizing up, and then set about restraining the man in the quirk restraint bracelets that I keep on my person at all times."

Iida blanches, “Why… do you just keep those on you, Midoriya?”

“For situations like this, Iida-kun, keep up.” Midoriya huffs derisively.

Kaminari’s head shoots up and he exclaims, “So he knows Iida’s name?!”

“Shut up, Pikachu. Anyways-” Midoriya continues,

“The man seemed convinced he would be able to get out of them, so I got my toolbox and hit him with it because I left all my offensive inventions at home." He pauses before considering, "Except for the taser balls, I don’t step out to get the mail without those."

“Why?!” Kirishima demands.

Somehow, they can feel Midoriya's eyes rolling through the phone. “Well after the situation with Stain, the incident with Shigaraki, and that whole debacle with Toga, I’ve decided it’s better to be safe than sorry.”

Kirishima considers this before conceding, “That’s fair, carry on.”

“So I called Detective Tsukauchi and asked him to send a police car our way while I sat on the man’s back and played rock, paper, scissors with the little girl, Eri-chan, while we waited. And then when they arrived, Tsukauchi got really worried because apparently I’d given a yakuza boss a grade-A level concussion, so he sent us to go get disguises and get on the subway and go to UA for protection. Apparently Sir Nighteye is tearing his hair out about this, but I could care less because I would sell him to Satan for one corn chip.

Bakugo pales, knowing exactly how much it takes to get on Midoriya’s bad side, “What… did he do to you, Deku?”

Midoriya grumbles, “He’s a bitch to Toshi-san.”

“Me?” Shinsou asks, wondering where the fuck he came in.

Bakugo rolls his eyes, “Not you, idiot, his stepdad.”

Midoriya ignores their bickering and continues, "So we’re about five minutes from UA now.”

Bakugo snickers, “You are the only person I can think of who would take out a supervillain accidentally because you thought they were an entirely different type of evil.”

Midoriya squeaks, “That’s not fair! He was looking at her like she was a piece of meat! Which she isn't, she’s a perfectly pretty little girl! How lovely.” He’s drawn away from the phone now, obviously speaking to the little girl if the meek girlish mumbles are any indication.

“So yeah, I hope you're ready to meet your new daughter, Kacchan.” And then he hangs up.

Bakugo barks out a laugh before scooping up his things, “Well, I should figure this out. See you later, losers.” And then he walks out of class like he owns the place. As he leaves, Present Mic is entering and seems to consider trying to get him to stay before he mutters something that sounds suspiciously like “problem child”.

Sure enough, exactly four minute and fifty-five seconds later, Izuku comes bustling up the steps to UA, holding a little girl with her hair tucked up in a slightly too large beanie. Bakugo, Aizawa, and All Might are waiting at the gates, and All Might doesn’t even wait for him to get in good before he’s already fussing over him.

“Seriously, Toshi? I’m fine!” Midoriya huffs, like this is his first accidental villain takedown.

“Yeah, but I’m not going to be when your mother finds out about this!” All Might shudders before turning to Eri and smiling gently, “Hello, Ms. Eri. I’m Toshinori, Izuku’s stepfather.”

She flinches at the word ‘father’, but otherwise manages to look him in the eyes, nodding. “Nice to… meet you.”

Midoriya directs her attention to the others, “Over here is Aizawa-sensei, he’s a hero too! And this is Kacchan, my special person.” Eri’s eyes light up and her lips twitch, but she doesn't manage a full smile. Bakugo, for all his credit, gives her a wide smile back, the kind reserved for Midoriya and maybe his dad.

He steps forward and bends slightly to look her in the eyes, “You are a real special kid, and whatever that jerk was doing to you, you didn't deserve any of it. You hear me?”

She nods slowly, taking it in before she nods again, with more fervor. “Izu-chan saved me,” She says, which isn't exactly an answer, but she looks incredibly weak and thin, so she may be the slightest bit disoriented.

“Alright, let’s get her to Recovery Girl so she can get her strength up.” Aizawa looks a little more dry-eyed than usual, so he’s probably proud of Bakugo being sweet to a child, and also repeating the lesson about self victim-blaming they’d literally beat into his head.

Midoriya smiles and nods, “Ready, Eri-chan?”

She steels herself before nodding.

If her hero was brave enough to save her, then she can maybe be brave too.
