Chapter Text
"Good morning, or should I say good evening? Good job on your last mission. This next mission is to find out ... "
He thought this was going to be a normal mission, it was not.
---
He was in the middle of the mission when he heard it.
A whimper.
A cry of a baby?
Twilight turned around, he swore he heard a baby cry.
He looked at the door to the right. The alarm was still ringing and counting down the seconds before self destruction . He opened the door, a little girl in a crib? Who would leave a girl here? She seemed only a few months old at most.
Handler didn't mention anything about these scientists doing tests on children..
"10... 9.... 8.." The self-destruct announcement kept counting down.
There was no time to think. He decided to take the girl and a file beside her.
And he ran for it.
~~~
He made it.
The lab was destroyed, along with all the corrupt scientists. He managed to stop them and their plans.
Now, what to do with the girl?
He decided to bring her along to Handler. Maybe she'll know.
"Why did you want to see me, Twilight? " She asked as he entered the room, before her eyes landed on the soft bundle in his hands.
"Who's this little one? Did you go off and have a child behind my back Twilight? " She raised an eyebrow.
Twilight rolled his eyes, "Of course not. I found her at the lab, which is now destroyed. I found this file along with her. " He handed her the file.
"Good work on destroying the lab. We knew they were up to something." Handler read over the file.
"Interesting. She can read minds? "Handler asked, an eyebrow raised. She had never heard of any mind reading children before. She's heard some rumors about the (now destroyed) lab testing on humans but nothing about testing on children.
"It seems so. " Twilight looked at the warm girl in his arms. He was thankful he managed to save the girl in time. What these scientists planned to do to her( and have probably already done) was something he doesn't want to know.
"So what should we do? " He asked, hoping Handler had any ideas.
"You'll have to take care of her. "
"What"
"Well there's no other option, We're understaffed so no one is available right now. Sending her to a normal orphanage is too risky, her mind reading ability might be a problem, it could be dangerous. And finally, you found her, you will take care of her. I'll give you 2 weeks off to settle in a home and get used to her. Maybe make a new cover for yourself and for her. "
Handler didn't let him complain, so he just decided to do what she told him to. It wasn't permanent right? (It was.)
He quickly found an apartment nearby. It wasn't much but it would do. No listening devices and securable escape routes.. That should do.
Next off, supplies. He got everything he thought she needed, food, diapers, a crib, clothes, everything,including a few books about parenting too. At least he didn't actually have to pay for these, WISE will be. And he may or may not have snuck in a little chimera plush toy for her in the purchase. Why not, it was on discount. Handler wouldn't mind, would she? (She probably would. )
He got back to his new home. Luckily the place was already fully furnished so He placed the sleeping girl on the nearby couch while he started assembling her crib.
Assembling the crib wasn't too hard. It was like solving a puzzle. Luckily for him, the baby was still asleep. He placed the mattress into the crib. He read in one of the parenting books that babies under the age of two shouldn't have a pillow yet so no pillow it is. Wait a minute, how old even is she? She looks about 5,maybe 6 months old, but Twilight doesn't know much about children. And the file he got wasn't very helpful either.
He made a note to himself to book an appointment with a pediatrician soon.
That's when the girl started crying. He walked towards the girl, " What's wrong? Do you want food? "
He cradled her in his arms, hoping she would stop crying. He walked to the counter, where the baby formula was.
He prepared the baby formula, checking the temperature before feeding the crying girl.
It was a bit tough to prepare baby formula while holding a child in his hands, but he managed.
Just as she finished the bottle, she burped, vomiting on his clothes. Ugh. He'll have to clean that up.
After 40 minutes of struggling to stop the girl's crying, the girl was finally asleep. He placed her in the new crib. Finally, peace and quiet.
It's been less than a day with her and he's already so tired. But he can't rest yet, he has to set up a new fake identity for himself and for this little one. Just "Subject 007" Is unfitting for a little girl's name.
He'll have to ask Franky to help him forge some new identities and make some fake certificates soon.
Now, time to make some new identities.
