The team, for once, ends up on a floor at the end of a festival. Unfortunately, it's difficult to enjoy it.
The boom of the fireworks makes Bam flinch. They're all wincing as they make it to the hotel. They all work in silence, patching up wounds, dismissing Khun's offers for the firefish, taking showers, and going downstairs for food.
By the time Khun and Endorsi finish in the bathroom, half the group is asleep. Endorsi grunts and escapes to steal someone's vegetarian lunch. Bam is not one of them. His fingers are fiddling with a strange little bottle.
Khun notices, because it's necessary that he noticess. What if it's an extra supply that they need? "Bam, what are you…" He trails off as he approaches, his friend fiddling with what is unmistakably… "Doing with a bubble wand?"
Bam turns from the balcony. He's smiling, a faint wisp of a thing. "I got it from a vendor downstairs," he says. "She said it would cheer me up." he raises it to his mouth. Khun adjusts his hands so they're no longer tense fists. So he doesn't scare him. Someone had given one to Kiseia once. She'd tossed it at their head.
The bubbles dance through the sunset, light and harmless. Fragile even.
Khun watches Bam's face, soft and losing tension more by the second. He holds out his hand. "Can I try?"
Bam hands them to him without hesitation. Taking a second to examine them, Khun exhales, watching the bubbles fly out and sparkle in the shinsu light.
Bam sighs gently as he watches it. The tension of the day seems to drip from his shoulders.
Something in Khun's stomach drops into something soft and warm. "Your turn," he says, passing it back.
Bam smiles. They blow bubbles together until the others return and fight over who gets a chance.
Bam slouches against the railing, looking soft and carefree.
If Khun takes his hand while no one's looking, and Bam squeezes his back, well, no one complains.
