Notes:

This is an ongoing series I have over on fanfiction.net. I decided to move some of the chapters over here but if you want to read them from the beginning, here's the link :)

Chapter 1: Sunglasses

Chapter Text

“You good?” Robin asked.

All five of them were working outside in their new garden area down by the base of the tower. They recently bought lots of flowers and plants to go around the island area and were excited to start planting.

Beside Robin, Raven seemed like she was having a bit of a hard time with something. He couldn’t tell what, he just knew something was bothering her.

“Yes.” She insisted, covering the hosta plant she just put in a hole with soil.

“Are you sure?” He asked again. “Because it looks like something's bothering you.”

Raven sighed. “It’s just bright out and it’s hard to see. My eyes are sensitive.”

“Oh, I have just the thing for that!” Robin placed his hand shovel down and took off his gardening gloves as he rooted through his utility belt, pulling out a pair of blue sunglasses. “I always keep a spare just in case.” He opened them up and placed them gently on Raven’s face. “Better?”

Raven looked around for a few seconds, taking in everything, but now in a darker shade with a blue tint to everything. “Yeah.” She lifted the sunglasses above her eyes, and then back down to see the difference. “Everything is blue?”

“Yeah.” Robin smiled, putting his gloves back on. It isn't everyday that he could show her something new. “These just happen to be a blue pair.”

“There are different colors?” She asked, looking at him in a blue hue.

“Sure are.” Robin said, digging another hole.

Raven continued to look around in slight awe and amazement. Everything looked different. The sky was a darker shade of blue, the clouds looked darker like it was going to rain, the white flowers looked light blue, even her skin looked blue. “Do these have a purpose besides changing colors?”

“Huh?” Robin asked, only hearing a bit of her question as he was digging.

“What do these do?”

“Oh, they protect your eyes from the sun.” He reached over towards Raven and pulled over one of the hosta plants. “And they make it easier to see when it’s bright like this.”

“Huh, really?” Raven kept looking around, noticing that Starfire’s hair now looked purple, as did Robin’s shirt. Taking a risk, she then looked up towards the sun and-
“Ah! Ow.” Raven quickly looked down and took off the glasses, rubbing her eyes.

Robin sat there shocked as to what just happened, shovel in hand mid dig. “What did you do?”

“Ah, I looked at the sun.” Raven continued to rub her eyes. “I thought you said that these protect your eyes.”

“From the UV rays.” Robin clarified, scooting closer to her, “It’ll still hurt if you look directly at the sun. Are you ok?”

“Yeah,” Raven gave her eyes one final run and looked at him, “just hurts a bit.”

“Let me see?”

Raven nodded.

He scooted even closer to inspect her eyes to see if there was any damage. Even though there wouldn’t be any damage from looking at the sun for a split second, he was a bit worried since she told him they are sensitive. “They look ok, just a bit red.” Robin concluded as he went back to his spot. “I had no idea that the sun hurt your eyes.”

“It’s ok.” Raven reached back to grab the sunglasses and put them back on her face. “These help.”

“Well I’m glad.” Robin said, finishing up his hole. “Must be because of bad genes or something huh?”

Raven smirked ever so slightly, the irony only known to her. “You have no idea.”
