Work Text:

Now Tommy knew that buying cheap houses was probably a bad idea.

He had watched too many horror movies and real ghost stories to underestimate the fact that a cheap apartment was sold to him and it wasn’t absolute shit.

Phil had always told him to be suspicious and to trust his gut feelings, but right now, he felt absolutely fine.

There was a bedroom, bathroom, living room and the kitchen was intertwined with the dining, it was a pretty awesome area.

Though something was off.

When he said that there wasn’t any gut feeling, he was lying, because there was definitely something strange in the apartment.

His items would just randomly be in strange places, like his soap in the fridge and his bread in the shower.

But nothing actually bad happened.

Tommy would think it was quite funny and would crack up every time he saw something be in a place it's definitely not meant to be.

He would then wipe away any stray tears and place the items back where they are supposed to be.

Even if there was some kind of ghost, which there most likely was, then they had a sense of humour, is what Tommy told Tubbo over the phone while he was making himself some dinner.

The other boy suggested using some kind of Ouija board or other ghost hunting equipment, but Tommy thought it would be invading the ghosts privacy.

Tubbo then let the subject go and let himself ramble about everything that had been going on back in the town he lived in while Tommy ate and hummed answers.

But the haunting definitely didn’t stop at just moving items.

Sometimes Tommy would come out of the shower and ‘Cock and Ball torture’ would be written on the fogged up mirror- the first time it happened, Tommy choked on his laughter so badly that his knees gave out and he fell to the floor.

Sometimes the ghost would leave out vegetables on the kitchen counter when Tommy got home from work, and sometimes would lay out Tommys work clothes.

But those were the only good things it would do, maybe it was warming up to Tommy, but the thought dissolved slightly when Tommy heard a crash of pans once again.

He was constantly telling the ghost to stop playing with the pans and to stop placing knives around his house.

It never worked for long but at least did something.

One thing that constantly happened to Tommy was the random waking up at night.

It would happen once a week where Tommy would hear singing from his living room, and would listen the whole night until it went away.

Everytime Tommy was in awe by the beautiful voice of, who he guessed was, the ghost.

Sometimes when the ghost made himself apparent, Tommy would compliment him, telling him how the songs were amazing and full of emotion, the response would be to go completely radio silent for the rest of the day.

The first time it happened, Tommy was worried, he thought something in his opinion offended the ghost, and he went around saying how he was sorry if he made the ghost sad.

It seemed the ghost heard him and sent a rattle throughout the pans as a signal that he was there and was happy.

It’s been months, 9 to be exact, since Tommy moved into the apartment.

But then when Tommy finally saved up money to go to school was when the real problems started.

Of course, he could have always asked Phil for some money, but the man had already done enough and Tommy didn’t want to seem like a lazy person.

But the first day wasn’t the best, and he ended up coming home with a bruise on his cheek.

Soon enough, Tommy realised his mistake of letting the ghost- whose name was Wilbur, he found out- see his injury.

Wilbur expressed his panic by rattling the whole apartment.

So you could imagine what happened when Tommy plopped himself onto the sofa to watch some TV before work.

Tommy had to explain that he ‘ran into a pole’ to calm the ghost down, then make him help to clean up.

After that, Tommy would quickly sneak into Niki's Bakery, where he worked, and would ask her to cover him up.

At first she was concerned, but then when she heard about the ghost she agreed with a sigh and a smile.

And it was completely fine, everything was normal for another month. Tommy would sometimes even come home to a cooked meal, it never tasted good, but Tommy ate it nonetheless, he showed his appreciation to Wilbur a lot.

Though sometimes Tommy was stupid.

And this was one of his stupid moments.

Tommy had gotten beaten up, surprise, but this one was slightly worse than the rest.

His face and body was bloody and bruised from all the kicks and punches, luckily nothing was broken but it didn’t change the fact that he felt like a walking corpse.

He also didn’t want to walk in public like this so he had no other choice than to go home, and meet with a very disappointed Wilbur.

Dragging his feet home slowly, scrambling up the stairs, opening his door and collapsing onto his bed.

These were the steps to getting home, made by Tommy, completely forgetting about the ghost that haunts the place Tommy lives in.

Maybe when he wakes up from all the rattling, Tommy can then patch himself up.

But this was not his idea.

He didn’t think that he would wake up to the sound of soft humming and fingers carding through his locks.

Tommy didn’t live with anyone, so he instantly panicked and flailed around, trying to get out of the person's hold.

But the arm around him only tightened and the voice hushed at him.

Eventually Tommy got tired and flipped over to glare at the person holding him hostage.

He was met with fluffy brown hair that was the same colour as his eyes, a yellow sweater and a smile that was sweet with hints of darkness that Tommy managed to miss.

“Good morning Darling.” The person whispered, leaning forward to press a kiss onto Tommys forehead.

Tommy flinched away, “Who are you?” He instead replied, ignoring how his stomach fluttered at the pet name and kiss.

The man's smile only slightly faltered, “You know me, I’m the one and only Wilbur Soot!” Tommy blinked a few times trying to process what was said.

“WHAT?! But you’re a ghost?!” Tommy exclaimed, eyes wide staring into the definitely solid person.

Wilbur just chuckled and pressed his nose into Tommys head, “Thought it was time I would show myself..” Tommy huffed, “You are a grown man and was still writing ‘cock and ball torture.’”

“It was funny! You laughed a lot!” Wilbur giggled, and Tommy just shrugged.

Then the light mood dropped and Wilbur looked down into Tommys eyes, “Who hurt you?” Tommy completely forgot about his injuries, but when he looked down, they were all bandaged and he was in clean clothes.

“It’s fine, just a few bullies-” Tommy was stopped by Wilburs finger, “You know damn well that I’m not going to stop until you tell me, I saw every injury you have had, even though you hid them from the human eye.” He said darkly.

“Now I won’t say again. Who. Did. This.” Tommy sighed, he has had many bullies in his life and his brother, Techno, would do the exact same thing.

“Just some guys, Jared Squwart, Levi Dubhit, and some guy named Lukas.” Full names were usually better but Tommy didn’t know Lukas’s last name, couldn’t be bothered to remember.

Wilbur just hummed, exactly like Techno did, “Y’know, you’re a lot like my brother.” Tommys words slipped out before he realised, Wilbur just chuckled as Tommy turned red, “Well he sounds like a great person.”

“Yeah, we’re like brothers Wil..” Tommy giggled slightly, “Don’t say that I will cry.” Wilbur sniffed and swiped at his nose, Tommy just yawned and snuggled closer to Wilbur.

The man softened at this and wrapped Tommy even closer to himself, “Go to sleep darling, tomorrow both of us will have a lot of work.”

Tommy looked up and met Wilburs eye, “Will you stay with me forever?” He whispered, Wilbur nodded, “Forever, I will even stay in this form with you.” Tommy was satisfied with the answer because soon enough his breath evened out and he was knocked out cold.

And Wilbur just stayed awake, not having the need to sleep, watching over Tommy and planning his next move.
