Work Text:
It’s actually Seira, Aoi’s mother who broached the subject of marriage first. In the years since Aoi and Eve had started dating in high school Seira acquired a begrudging respect for Eve, both as a Golfer and as a partner for Aoi. It took a lot to impress the CEO, but Eve and Aoi’s rivalry only helped the Amawashi Company become even more popular. Of course, the beaming smile on Aoi’s face everytime Eve walked in a room certainly made Seira even more approving of her. Regardless, it still took Eve by shock when Seira called out of the blue one day to ask.
“Evangeline, Are you going to marry my daughter?”
“O-of course ma’am! … may I ask what brought this on?”
“You have been dating Aoi since you were 15, and you have now been dating for 4 years. In Japan at this time it is customary for you to be wed.”
“I’m aware of that Amawashi, but don’t you think we’re a little young.”
Seira seemed unconvinced but hung up shortly after, and Eve pushed thoughts of marriage to the back of her mind. After all, there was a tournament on Friday and Eve needed to practice, she had won the last two tournaments she and Aoi had participated in and wasn’t keen on losing her lead

Aoi won. Not that it put a damper on Eve’s spirit, it would have gotten boring if Eve if their games weren’t close. The Tournament organizers had rented out a bar for the post tournament celebrations, and Eve was more than happy to run up someone else's tab while watching Amane attempt to prevent a drunken Aoi from singing karaoke. At least until Eve’s observation was interrupted by her caddy, Ichina.
“We’re friends right? I’m not just your caddy?”
Eve snorted, “Of course.”
“I’m afraid I need to give you some advice, as a friend. Aoi is in love with you. You are in love with her, yes?
She was met with a raised eyebrow, “Obviously.”
“You should marry her. It’s about time you all thought about marriage. You know, just saying.”
Now Eve was well and truly confused. What was it with everyone butting into her and Aoi’s relationship?
“Well we haven’t really talked about it yet-”
“You should talk about it.”

Not 3 days later at her and Aoi’s practice session, their old high school coach Reiya Amuro shows up out of the blue and pulls her aside while Aoi is practicing putts.
“Aye, Evangeline… you know I’ve always wanted to attend the wedding of two of my favorite students. I could even take the golf team out on a field trip for it…”
“Not you too! Stop pushing me or I won’t even invite you to the wedding!”
“Ah! So there is a wedding?”

Ring! Ring!
“Klein? It’s been awhile, how’s the bar?”
“Oh it’s fine, although I would like to show it to my grandchildren sometime soon…”
“What? Is Lily pregnant?”
“Oh no silly, I’m talking about you and Aoi. Of course you would have to get married first-”
“Why is everyone so worried about this? I’m not even your daughter officially!”

The constant reminders that she should get married had gotten so out of hand that Eve was barely surprised to open her door one afternoon to her old golf teacher Leo Millafoden.
“I don’t want to hear anything about marriage”
Leo nodded grimly (not that he’d ever nodded warmly either)
“I’ll keep this short. Aoi thinks you are uninterested in marrying her.”
“What? How could she think that?”
“Shut up and let me finish. A few weeks ago Aoi and her mother were talking when Aoi mentioned that she was interested in marrying you. Her mother then immediately called you, and deduced that you did not wish to progress your relationship any further, which she immediately told to Amane, who has since been trying to use other people to subtly tell you that you need to propose to Aoi.”
Eve winced internally, she didn’t think she seemed that uninterested on the phone with Seira. How could she not have noticed that Aoi was worried about this?
“Unfortunately you understand subtly in your life about as well as you understand subtly in golf, which is to say not at all.”
“Hey, you calling me stupid?”
“I’m saying you need to talk to your girlfriend.”
Eve sighed and frowned. “Why can’t she just ask me about marriage? Why is everyone making me do all the work?”
Leo spared her an exacerbated glance, “You moved to Japan for Aoi, You kissed Aoi first, and you asked her on your first date. And Just look at you, you literally wear the pants in this relationship.”
Damn, Eve thought to herself, Why you got to be so heteronormative? Still Leo was probably right, it wouldn’t do for Aoi to keep worrying over this. Eve loved Aoi, she just wasn’t quite ready for that step yet.
“Alright sheesh, I’ll talk to her.”

Eve waits until their next date to broach the subject. It’s a picnic at a local park, not a golf course but it’s green and the scent of fresh cut grass is still soothing for them. Aoi’s watching the nearby playground, filled with laughing children.
“Hey Aoi… Have you ever thought of having kids?”
Aoi turned back to Eve, a concerned expression on her face. “Eve, you know your strap can’t get me pregnant right?”
“Aoi! I’m being serious right now.” Eve retorted, blushing and turning away. Aoi placed her hand under Eve’s chin, lifting slightly until their eyes met.
“I’d love to adopt children one day, but I don’t think we’re quite there yet, Eve.”
Eve nodded slightly relaxing under Aoi’s touch. “You do want to raise children with me eventually though right Aoi?”
“Well… only if you’re ok with it.” Aoi cocked her head to the side in confusion, “Is that not something you’re interested in?”
Eve shook her head vehemently, “Of course I do! It’s just people keep telling me I need to marry and settle down right now!”
“You don’t want to get married?”
“No!... I mean yes I want to marry you.” Eve threw her head back, “I want to get married to you, I just don’t think I’m not ready for it yet and I’m afraid you are ready and everyone keeps wanting me to be ready!”
Aoi smiled fondly at her lover, “Oh Eve… I simply told Mother that I was interested in marrying you because she kept asking if she should be arranging any back up matches. We have all the time in the world to get ready for marriage, I’m sorry for worrying you.”
Eve breathed deeply, before pressing her lips to Aoi’s. The kiss was passionate, but slow. The kiss of two people who knew they’d be able to kiss each other for the rest of their lives. Eventually they drifted back and Eve stared into Aoi’s cloud gray eyes. “Aoi, I love you.”
She giggled in response, “I love you too Eve.”
“Just make sure you get a nice ring.”
