Distracted

Summary:

He was covered in it, a thick slimey substance that he could only assume was some kind of saliva from the sea monster they had just fought. He grunted in disgust as he took off his drenched jacket and threw it on the deck. The red piece of clothing making a wet slap as it hit the worn wood planks. His ears flicked as he heard a quiet gasp on his right side.

He turned to the sound only to see his firstmate with a peculiar expression. He looked more red than normal, despite his shivering form, and he was looking at his back. Shadow cleared his throat, successfully garnering his distracted mate's attention. "Are you feeling okay?" He tilted his head to the side subconsciously.

"A-aye, aye! Of course I'm feeling fine, why would I not be fine ah ha ha..." He trailed off on an awkward laugh, all the while not making eye contact. "Excuse me." He made a move to slip past Shadow, but the captain wasn't going to let that happen. He grabbed his arm and spun the taller hedgehog around and trapped him against the mast. "What's wrong." It wasn't a question, it was a command. His fierce stare met the flustered one's, and for some reason, he found himself getting lost in the Emerald pools.

He began to lean in and he swore the other's was too. His eye began to shut, but as they were about to make contact, he swiftly pulled back with a fake cough and marched to his quarters, slumping against the door and onto the floor. His head held in his hands as he chastised himself for the slip up.

Meanwhile, his firstmate hadn't moved an inch, dumbfounded. He slowly brought a hand to his burning face. What even was that?

A few moments, or perhaps minuets, later, he picked up the soiled jacket and took it to the wash room to clean it.
