Chapter Text
You. Are. Nervous. Your social anxiety has you internally panicking as you stand in the middle of the huge Tokyo train station. What the hell are you even doing here? Why would you do this to yourself? Even though you spent three months considering and planning out this move, you still don't know why you chose to do it. You moved from America to Japan. Japan! There weren't any specifically important reasons why you desired to move other than you wanted a change of scenery. Wanted to travel and experience new things, even though the thought of doing so all alone terrified you. So why in the hell did you decide to move to a different country instead of a different state like you were going to originally? You clearly had lost your mind at some point and now here you are in Japan finally coming to your senses. Too late now. You pull your bags behind you as you slowly walk outside, hoping to find some type of Uber or rideshare that can take you to your new home. You didn't bring much, being a nurse most of your clothes are scrubs anyway. You never were one to have too many things that tied you down. Plus bringing a lot of stuff from one country to another just seemed like such a hassle. You can buy more things once you settle in. You finally get an Uber, feeling lucky that enough people understand and speak decent enough English. You stare out the window taking in the sights of the big city and it all seems a bit overwhelming, but you know you'll manage. All you really need is to figure out how to get to and from work, and where the closest supermarket is. Everything else will come with time, if at all. You're more homebody than not so you aren't really worried about finding the best party spots.
The Uber pulls up to a skyscraper of a building, so tall you can't see the top from inside of the car. You step out onto the sidewalk, the nervousness causing your chest to tighten. You didn't realize this place would be this huge. You did a virtual walkthrough of the condo with an agent, the inside gorgeous, but you never really paid attention to what the outside looked like. You walk inside, dragging your bags behind you, heading to the elevator. Each step makes you more and more nauseous. You take deep breaths, trying to calm yourself, hating that you feel like this. They're just people, living their life just like you, so there's no reason to be so nervous about meeting them. Them, would be your roommates. Yep. When you lost your mind and decided to move here, you also decided that it would be okay to live with total strangers. Four of them. What person in their right mind does that? You clearly weren't in yours at any point in this process. You step out of the elevator, slowly making your way to what is now your new front door of a condo that is half of the entire 20th floor. With a shaky hand you take the key from your pocket, slide it into the lock and turn, hesitating before opening the door. You take one more deep breath, steeling your nerves as much as you possibly can, which isn't much at all, and turn the knob, pushing the door open. A wave of cold air washes over and wraps around you as you step inside the small hallway entrance. At the end of the hallway you're met with the expansive open space of the condo. From where you stand you can see the spacious kitchen, dining, and living room areas. There's a huge balcony with a long table and several chairs viewable through the floor to ceiling windows that make up the majority of the wall. Everything looks clean and the room smells like lemons. You smile to yourself, feeling a little better for a moment. At least they aren't slobs.
An eruption of laughter sends your nerves into a frenzy and you roll your eyes at how silly you're being. Leaving your bags in the hallway you slowly make your way towards the sound, reassuring yourself that everything will be fine. Again you're in awe at the size of the condo as you turn the corner into another hallway and find several rooms and sitting areas, some perfect for reading by the window. The room at the end of the hall seems to be the location of the laughter as another short eruption occurs as you approach it. Even before you get to it you can tell that it's a gaming room by the sounds streaming into the hall, and confirm as much once you step into the doorway. There are a few gaming systems and chairs, laptops and monitors, and a couch and loveseat. Beanbag chairs are scattered about. LED lights line the ceiling. Speakers are mounted in the corners of the walls. There's even a table setup for board games. Your eyes wandered around the room taking it all in until they fall on the backs of who you assume are your roommates. The four men are sitting in the gaming chairs, their eyes focused on the oversized flat screen hanging on the wall, controllers in their hands, competing in whatever game they're playing. You hesitantly tap your knuckle against the door and hold your breath as they all quickly turn, widening eyes landing on you.
"Hello. I'm Y/N. Your...roommate."
You give them a small smile and wave, and they politely place down their controllers and approach you for introductions.
"Hi."
"Hey."
"Nice to meet you."
"Hello."
You can't help but notice how tall they are as they step into your space, your head leaning back to meet their eyes. The first to extend his hand to you has skin like milk chocolate, a clean cut fade, golden brown almond shaped eyes, plump lips, and a small cleanly shaped beard.
"I'm Ojiro Aran."
He smiles wide as he shakes your hand, his large and warm, engulfing yours.
"Nice to meet you Ojiro."
The next has short brown hair that looks quite soft, and greyish yellow eyes, almost hazel, that are somehow intense and lazy at the same time. He's almost pretty.
"Suna Rintaro."
You shake his slightly cold, slender hand, his fingers wrapping around yours.
"Nice to meet you Suna."
The next has an undercut, brown on bottom, golden yellow on top. His eyes are large and hooded, almost sleepy, and he has a small smile, almost a smirk resting on his lips.
"I'm Miya Atsumu."
You shake his hand and he gives yours a friendly squeeze.
"Nice to meet you Miya."
The last is the twin of the previous. Same face, but a bit softer and his hair is grey on top.
"Miya Osamu."
He gives you a soft smile as he shakes your hand, his warm and soft.
"Nice to meet you M-"
You pause, a bit confused, glancing between the brothers.
"So, Miya is your last name?"
They nod in response, heads bobbing in sync.
"In Japan we address each other last name first, and call each other by our last name, unless there's familiarity.", said Aran.
"Obviously you'll need to call us by our first names since we share a last name.", added Osamu.
You nod in understanding.
"Understood. So Ojiro, Suna, Atsumu, and Osamu.", you reply, pointing to each as you say their names.
They all give you an affirmative nod and smile, and you smile in return already appreciative of the type of people your new roommates appear to be.
"Again, it's really nice to meet you all. Can one of you please show me where my room is?", you asked sweetly.
"Of course. How about we take a tour of the place.", said Aran.
"Sounds great."
You follow Aran as they show you around the condo, and it's mostly where their rooms and the bathrooms are located.
"Are these all of your bags?", asks Osamu as he picks them up.
"Yep. That's it."
He carries your bags as you continue the tour, ending at your room.
"Your suite M'lady.", Atsumu says in a proper voice, bowing as he opens the door.
"Thank you kind Sir.", you smile and chuckle, doing a small curtsy.
Like the rest of the condo your room is spacious and your eyes travel excitedly around it imagining all the things you can do with it, and then realize it's completely empty.
"Do you know of a good furniture store? I'd like to sleep in a bed tonight.", you say quietly with a frown.
"Of course. We had to go through this process when we moved in a while ago.", replies Atsumu.
"How's your Japanese?", asks Osamu.
Your eyes go a bit wide at the question.
"I uh...have this...book...to translate...", you start.
"Nope. Let's go.", says Suna pointing towards the door.
"I don't want to be a bother guys. You can just give me the address and I'll figure it out.", you reply, averting your eyes every now and then.
They all stare at you with soft smiles as they point towards the door, and you can't help but smile in return, your cheeks warming a bit at how nice they're being.
"Okay. Thanks."
You all ride in Aran's SUV to the furniture store, well, not just the furniture store, but every store. Everything that they can think of that you might need for your room, they take you to buy. You talk as they show you around the area of Tokyo where you now live. You talk a little about your life in America, and being a nurse which they think is an awesome job, and take you to the hospital where you will start working in a few days. They tell you about being pro ball players, except Osamu who's focused on starting his own business, and invite you to come watch them when you can. You're all attending the same college, though you're strictly taking classes online. That's the better option for you with your profession, and the potential of working different shifts. It takes hours, but you finally get everything you need delivered to the condo. The guys put together your bed and anything else that needs to be assembled. You told them that they didn't have to, but they just smiled at you like they've been doing all day when you try not to be a burden. Finally finished, they plop down on the couch, taking a moment to rest. You still have a lot of decorating to do, but everything else is in place. You smile as you stand in front of them, more grateful than you can express, and they can't help but smile back.
"Thank you so much. None of you had to help me, but you did and I really appreciate it."
"Of course. We're gentleman.", replies Aran.
"We couldn't let the queen of our castle go at it alone.", Atsumu smiles.
"You would have gotten lost.", says Osamu.
"And seeing as how you don't like to ask for help, we never would have seen you again.", adds Suna.
You stare for a moment, unable to argue with their points because they're probably right, so you simply nod in agreement.
"Well that didn't happen since I'm lucky enough to have four very nice roommates, who also happen to be well built men that can carry heavy boxes. I wasn't expecting that.", you reply.
"We weren't expecting you to be a girl either.", replies Osamu.
"Hopefully I don't disappoint and cramp your style."
"Nah. We're not worried about that.", replies Suna, the others shaking their heads in agreement.
"Let's order some food. I don't feel like cooking.", Samu groans.
"I can cook! As a thank you. I want to repay you for your help."
"It's late and I want something quick. But definitely another time.", replies Suna.
"Okay. Well I think I'm gonna go shower."
"What do you want to eat?", asks Suna.
You're silent for a moment, not sure what your options are in this new country.
"Surprise me. You haven't let me down yet, so I trust you to pick something good.", you smile.
"Okay. I got you.", replies Suna.
You shower and lotion before getting dressed in a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. When you come out there's a spread of food on the dining table, and your eyes wander over all of it, missing how their eyes wander over all of you. Earlier you wore a hoodie and some loose fitting jeans, looking cute and comfortable. Now they can see your fresh face and figure, and how attractive you really are. They share a look and in unison shake their heads indicating that none of them will try anything with you.
"There's so much food."
"We didn't know if you were into Japanese food, so we ordered a lot of different things for you to try.", replies Atsumu.
"Aww. You guys are so nice."
"Come on, let's eat!", said Aran.
You all sit down together and eat, you trying a little of everything and it was all delicious.
"Oh my God I'm so full.", you groan, laying your head on the table.
"You did eat quite a bit. You had 3 onigiri.", replies Osamu.
"It was all so good, and I hadn't had anything since the flight which was like 20 hours ago. And the onigiri were my favorite."
"I made those. There are more in the fridge if you want some tomorrow.", replies Osamu.
"You did say cook didn’t you? You're gonna be my favorite.", you smile at him.
"Give it time. We just met.", Atsumu frowns, earning him a glare from Osamu.
"Why didn't you say you hadn't eaten earlier? We could have gotten food while we were out.", asks Suna.
"There was so much going on, and my anxiety was being a bitch. I didn't think about it."
"Yeah we noticed how you were uneasy when there were a lot of people around.", replies Aran.
"Yeah it sucks. I'm a bit of an introvert and going to places with a lot of people, or just meeting new people in general and having to make small talk makes me nervous."
"You did good with us today.", Atsumu warmly smiles.
"Thanks. It took me a whole minute to open the door when I first got here. I didn't know what to expect."
"And how do you feel now?", askes Aran.
You sit up and smile at them.
"I no longer regret moving. And I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you."
"We're looking forward to it to.", Aran smiles, the others nodding in agreement.
"Yes. I'm also looking forward to my bed. Let's clean up so I can shower.", says Suna, yawning and stretching.
You help pack away the leftovers and clean up the table, yawning more and more as the minutes pass.
"I know you're exhausted. That flight sounds terrible.", says Osamu.
"It was, and I am. I think I'm gonna go to bed now. Thanks again for everything guys."
You give them a big, sleepy smile.
"You're welcome.", they say in unison, returning the smile, and to your surprise they each give you a hug, telling you good night.
"Good night guys."
You close the door to your room, smiling as you playfully dance over to your bed. You crawl under the covers and sigh, falling asleep the moment your head hits the pillow.
