Rain's Past

Summary:

“I thought rain wasn't your thing.”

“It's not. I don't like it,” False admitted easily, “you don't like the rain either.”

“That's right."

~
Xisuma and False talk during a rainy day

Notes:

Platonic Falsuma talk a little about wars, about the past.

Work Text:

Players on the Hermitcraft server were fond of rainy days. Not all of them, of course, and when they meant that - they were talking about days when there was a thunderstorm. Trident users thrived in the rain, though.

And today, it was one of the rainy days. Some hermits pushed their projects back to hang out in their bases, some players outside with tridents and piddles of water.

It was a day like any other, really.

False was never the one to like rain. It didn't bring anything good during the war, only slowed them down. Except Hermitcraft had no wars like that.

It was even alarmingly nice, something she was still not used to. They had plenty of new members this season, but False still couldn't get over being here, in such a peaceful environment.

She never gave the rain more thought before, only this time going out to stand in it, feeling the water on her was chilling, alarming. False didn't know peace, despite living in peace for a few years. This rain didn't give her the joy and relaxation as it did to other hermits. She didn't like it.

Her hair will be in need of drying, so are her clothes. Annoying was what being in the rain was. And with those thoughts, False didn't notice her guard being lowered. Not until a shadow was cast over her, a presence near, blocking the rain above her head.

“Careful not to get sick,” a recognizable voice echoed, Xisuma stood there with an umbrella held over her head, “the rain is pretty strong today.”

False couldn't help looking at his visor, the admin's vision was clearly bad under the rain, the suit might be waterproof, but not the glass that usually let him see. Water drops covered it.

“I sure hope you didn't fly here in this weather.”

“Oh, no, I was just around the area.”

Their admin was capable of many things, truly, Xisuma didn't need concerns, but he was also a bit of a derp at times, which left False hoping for the best. He had a history of crash landings and accidents.

False didn't reject the umbrella, but they couldn't just stand in the rain like that, so she pulled X along, as he continued to shield her from the rain. Though, she was there long enough for it to not matter.

They entered her house, away from the rain outside, both dripping water on the floor.

“Here, don't hit the wall,” she held out a towel to him. It might not be the best for the visor, but it was better than nothing.

“I thought rain wasn't your thing.”

“It's not. I don't like it,” False admitted easily, “you don't like the rain either.”

“That's right. Though, there's more enjoyment in the rain from the comfort of the house.”

That was something she didn't think of. Yes, she watched it usually from the inside but didn't quite think of this. She was used to being out in the rain, so embracing it from outside made sense.

And the outcome was clear, she didn't like it.

“Give me a minute to change,” she then pointed out. Of course, False was still in the same clothes, “I can get the fireplace and we'll sit there.”

It didn't take long, not at all. The water didn't affect Xisuma nearly as much, his suit was well enough equipped. It would dry out like he didn't walk in the rain.

But even sitting by the fire, False could hear the drops of water were loudly falling outside. They spoke little, just looking at the wood burn.

“It's distracting, loud. Always has been.”

Xisuma couldn't disagree here, rain could get like that.
They shared negative opinions about it, even if it was different as to why.

“The rain is bad in the war, right?”

“Rain, fog and snow have effects on archer accuracy, as well as speed on movements, some fronts benefit from bad weather, some don't,” False explained as she experienced, “sometimes weather can really turn around the outcome. Sometimes the ground is too muddy with a heavy rain, or it's too hard to hear the enemy.”

It was a thing between the two, war talk wasn't uncommon. Their pasts were not an uncommon talk, they found similarities and many, many differences, they found comfort in their little talks. Xisuma never experienced an actual war, and she hoped he wouldn't have to.

She hoped other hermits won't have to experience it ever. Or ever again. They all had something to share.

“I understand, that doesn't sound too good.”

“It's not… still, most humans and hybrids deal with rain from the start of their lives and then don't bat an eye to it. How was it, seeing it for the first time?”

“Terrifying?” He didn't sound too sure, “I don't know how to quite explain. The void has no water- or the actual sky that changes. Everything was weird.”

He was used to regular things like rain after a few years. Though it was still slightly weird. Scientific approach of how rain works helped too.

“Do wars ever bring anything good?” Xisuma took a turn at the question.

It was a twisted question, “depending on what side of the war you are thrown into, it can bring something good. But it's never worth it.”

There was more bad than good. It never made up for all the losses and grief. It never made up for every bad thing that comes from war.

With their little talks and questions, the rain passed. Neither noticed at first. Their conversation blocked the sound of it out of their mind.

“Look, the sun is out,” Xisuma nodded to the window, the rays of sun slowly making their way to the house, “rain is great with some nice company, it's always a good and peaceful time.”

“Maybe it is…” False said, before giving a conclusion, “I don't like the rain.”

“Me neither.”

They left it on that, nothing to be forced about a simple opinion. Still, it was a nice time spent together.
