Work Text:

The day went smoothly, in general. Except for the way it started, with father's order to spend the day on his own.

Without his brother.

And without a phone.

Apparently, they need to get used to being more independent, because there can be many situations where you cannot depend on others for help, and relying on devices for everything is a bad habit that dulls your skills, go touch some grass, blah blah blah…

And that wasn't a problem for Polyurethane, no, not at all, why would it be a problem? He is an independent and self-sufficient person, he knows exactly how to keep himself entertained, he is not addicted to technologies, he has already spent a couple of hours shopping, it's fun, it's relaxing, he knows how to spend time on his own.

And no, he's not nervously flipping through the brochure of some perfume store that was kindly given to him about ten minutes ago.

And no, he is not quickening his pace as he approaches the next door to escape the uncomfortable feeling of anxiety in his chest, as if he does not know where to go or what to do.

He's above that, he can take care of himself. Even if he can't remember what products he checked out in the last store, they just weren't worth his time, kay?

With these thoughts, angel gradually approached the unremarkable geek store, already filled with pent-up irritation. His hand went to his pocket out of habit to get his phone and send a message to Polyester, but not finding the device there, Polyurethane just sighed wearily, trying to ignore the obvious urge to curse.

It wasn't that he had the right to question his father's orders.

Before reaching the store, he suddenly stopped. Inside, it was incredibly loud—too loud for a store that’s mostly frequented by introverts. Polyurethane stopped at the door, listening to what was going on inside.

A bunch of people in tuxedos, looking like butlers, were chasing none other than Brief. Redhead was hiding behind shelves full of video game discs and different magazines, desperately dodging hands in white gloves.

Polyurethane gave a little whistle. Well, this could be quite entertaining.

He kicked the door open and walked inside. It seemed that no one paid any attention to him because of the havoc inside. Listening to the wave of voices that swept over him, and trying to figure out what was going on, his gaze immediately fell on Brief. He was dressed in clothes that were unusual for him, a classic white suit made of expensive fabric, which accentuated his not particularly muscular but slender figure. The angel whistled to himself, but immediately frowned when he noticed his friend awkwardly adjusting his suit here and there, clearly uncomfortable in such tight-fitting clothing. The next things he heard gave him a clearer understanding of the situation.

- Why on earth did my father decide again that it was a good idea to marry me off?! Again! If he wants heirs, he can make new children! - knocking over a shelf on the butlers pulling him, Brief immediately jumped behind the cash register, next to him the nonchalant cashier didn't seem to notice what was happening at all - besides, I already stated that I have someone I 'm in love with!

Damn, freaking family drama right in front of his salad, that's kinda awkard, at least he'll be able to bring up some interesting gossip with his brother later. And something about Brief having a love interest? Well, Polyurethane remembered that during their hangouts, the redhead would sometimes speak with a certain affection about his cousin.

Not that he really cared .

It wasn't his habit to judge anyone for their tastes, even though deep down he found geek's choice, to put it mildly...desperate.

- Your father is well aware that you and Panty are not in a romantic relationship, and after investigating her lifestyle, your father has come to the conclusion that this relationship will only break your heart, young master! - one of the men grabbed Brief by the leg and began to pull him down, while the redhead tried with all his might to shake off his hand. - Your father has found the perfect candidate for you, so don't be stubborn and let us finally comb your hair. You must look presentable!

Brief clung to the table with all his might, desperately resisting, while the other customers watched the scene with interest. Some filmed it on their phones, others giggled quietly and whispered among themselves.

Too much fuss over nothing. It was starting to get annoying.

Whether it was really the background noise that started to get on his nerves or the desire to stand up for his new friend, Polyurethane found it difficult to say for sure when he thought about it later. Although he considered Brief a friend, it was difficult for him to understand what exactly he, as a friend, should do. After all, he had never really communicated like this with anyone except his brother before. Moreover, these were personal family matters, and he shouldn't have gotten involved...

...On the other hand, he began to feel kinda bad looking at geek's worried face.

Sighing to himself, angel finally decided to intervene, as a seemingly brilliant idea came to mind at that very moment.

Later, his brother will laugh at him.

...He doesn't regret it anyway.

- Hey, bestie, what's your beef with these boomers? And why do y'all think that it's Panty we're talking about? - hearing an unfamiliar voice, everyone turned their heads toward him, only now noticing his presence - Brief, sweetie, you were talking about me, weren't you?

Polyurethane glanced at the poor boy and winked mischievously, giving him a sly smile. Silence hung in the air as everyone processed what had just been said. Brief stared at the angel in shock, his mouth slightly open. Although the sight was quite cute, Polyurethane still hoped that the gears in his head were turning fast enough to understand his idea, otherwise it would be rather awkward. Fortunately, he didn't have to wait long.

- I-I... yes! O-of course I meant you! I'am in love with him! See? You don't know anything about me! - Brief turned sharply to their shocked audience, becoming more confident with each word, but Polyurethane couldn't help but be amused by how his face gradually reddened as if he couldn't believe he was saying this.

The butlers silently looked at their master, then at the angel standing smugly behind him. A moment later, they gathered in a small circle and began whispering, planning their next move.
Brief turned to angel, a modest smile appearing on his face. Suddenly, he stood up slightly on tiptoe and leaned toward Polyurethane's ear, whispering a barely audible “thank you.” His light breath shook angel's triangular earring, and after a moment, redhead immediately stepped back as if nothing had happened.

And no, Polyurethane's heart definitely did not beat a little faster at that moment. He was completely calm, he was the hero in this situation, and the blush on his cheeks had nothing to do with the barely noticeable warmth in his chest.

He had to pull himself together.

He couldn't lose face.

-How could I not help my best... ahem, boyfriend in trouble? -another wink, to which the redhead simply smiles happily, cheerfully adjusting the edges of his jacket.

Cute.

They both flinch when they hear a cough from the side.

- After a short discussion, we decided that your father should meet your new partner, so you will both travel to the family estate in the countryside, where we will make preparations for the meeting. No excuses will be accepted.

Brief looked in panic at both аngel and the men in suits, mentally preparing his apology for the situation.

Polyurethane thought that putting his “boyfriend” in an awkward position was part of his job, not theirs. Well, at least while they were playing this ridiculous game.

-Yo boomers, we were lowkey planning to go on a date, and y'all kinda ruining the vibe, y'know, can you shut-

Before Polyurethane could finish speaking, he felt a firm grip on his arm pulling him toward the door. A second later, he was running down the street with Brief. Looking back, the angel saw the staff rushing out of the store after them.

....well.

In theory, he could have simply lifted them into the sky and the problem of the chase would have been solved in the blink of an eye.

In theory.

In practice, Polyurethane was too distracted by the warm fingers tightly squeezing his hand to even think about it.

- Once again, I apologize for this. It's all my father's fault, this isn't the first time he's tried to marry me off to someone, and now you come to my rescue, and this situation happens, it's just that if we had gone to the meeting, they wouldn't have let you go so easily, even though you're an angel...now that I think about it, I shouldn't have dragged you into this from the very beginning! - while Brief was babbling on, they turned one corner after another, the walls of the houses imperceptibly changing - in short ... I-I'm sorry.. -by this point, they had turned into some godforsaken alleyway with several trash cans and a corresponding smell. But looking at the redhead's worried face, these things were the least of the angel's concerns. Giving in to impulse, Polyurethane reached out with his free hand to ruffle the ginger hair.

- No worries, man, if it weren't for you, I'd be bored to death today. - his hair felt surprisingly soft to the touch. Giving in to curiosity, Polyurethane gently brushed Brief's bangs back behind his ears with and froze.

...If he had previously thought that Brief hid half of his face out of shyness, he now believed that he did so because he could literally kill people with his face card.
After a few seconds of no action from angel, Brieff awkwardly parted their hands, only now realizing that he hadn't let go of the other's hand after running. The sudden loss of warmth quickly brought Polyurethane back to his senses. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he apologized and took a couple of steps back. Brief just as embarrassed, quietly assured him that everything was fine, then he went further and started peeking cautiously from behind the wall to check if anyone was chasing them.

He didn't fix his hair back, leaving his azure eyes open.

Polyurethane silently looked at his hand.

Here's the thing, angels' body temperature is significantly lower than that of ordinary people. That's just how it works and Polyurethane had never really paid attention to this difference before.
Right up until this moment.

Now that he had a couple of seconds to think about it, not yet caught up in the traps of their odd interactions, maybe he could say that it was...nice? It's nice when someone else's warmth slowly gets under your skin, and your heart starts beating a little faster?

Even thinking about it made him feel stupid. Perhaps he was going mad.

Suddenly, Brief turned around and looked around frantically, searching for a place to hide.

Unable to think of anything better, he quickly ran to one of the empty trash cans, grabbing Polyurethane by the hand. Quickly jumping into one of them, he immediately pressed a finger to angel's lips in a silent gesture to shut up.

Polyurethane just stared at geek in shock, unable to tear his gaze away from the intense stare of azure eyes, several strands of ginger hair falling haphazardly across redhead's face. This, combined with his elegant white suit, gave Brief the appearance of a runaway groom.

…well now his thoughts began to drift in a completely wrong direction, and that was not good. Not good at all. He needed to distract himself before things got worse. There was a rustling sound outside, and Brief immediately turned his head toward it, moving slightly closer to the angel.

...

That was lowkey too much?!

Polyurethane couldn't take his eyes off the freckled face in front of him, his eyes... he had never seen such beautiful eyes. Hiding them behind bangs was simply a crime against humanity, against him in particular. He would definitely mention it later, later when Brief wouldn't be so close that they were practically sharing the same oxygen. Later, when he wouldn't feel like he was burning up from the heat of redhead's slender body on top of him. Later, when they got out of this damn stinking trash can, seriously, 0/10 experience.

And just as Polyurethane thought he had regained control of his thoughts, another person's shadow loomed over them.

The last thing his brain registered was the apologetic expression on Brief's face before he pulled him by the top of his suit and kissed him on the lips.

The first thing the angel thinks of is warmth. It was so warm, almost burning. It gradually warmed his body to the point that it became almost unbearably hot. He felt the heat most intensely on his cheeks as Brief's dry, bitten lips pressed with delicate tenderness against his own. Polyurethane felt himself being gently taken by the waist, as if he were something fragile that could easily break.

It felt new.

It felt good.

With his eyes closed, angel did not see Brief glare threateningly at the man above. His poorly conceived plan was to scare off his father's servants with such a scene and, at the same time, demonstrate the seriousness of their relationship. Yes, inside a trash can. Not very romantic, but hey, no plan is perfect. Needless to say, that as soon as Brief saw a shocked woman with a trash bag looming over them, he was really flustered to say the least.

He immediately broke off the kiss, ignoring the displeased sound the Polyurethane made. Quickly getting up, Brief tried to explain himself, but the frightened woman quickly threw the bag at him in a panic, knocking him back onto Polyurethane, and ran away.

Polyurethane couldn’t hold back the laugh that escaped him, and as it turned out, it was contagious. In no time, they were both quietly giggling at what had happened, slowly climbing out of the trash bin, awkwardly bumping into each other with their limbs.

Once they had calmed down, they stood facing each other, yet avoiding eye contact.

Even though Brieff was the more timid of the two, it was he who began the conversation, choosing his words carefully.

- ...Sorry about that, I didn’t have time to come up with anything better, I-

- Nah, don’t worry, bro, it worked, right? - Polyurethane quickly cut him of, trying to smile confidently.

They stood uncomfortably in silence, not wanting to part ways but unable to discuss what had just happened. Yet, leaving things as they were felt inappropriate.

Something invisible had shifted in their relationship, and there was a strong sense that if they simply parted ways now, this meeting would keep Polyurethane up for many nights to come.

The sun was already setting behind the rooftops, painting the sky a soft pink.

His shift usually ended at this time, so maybe it was time for him to go home after all..

- Hey, Polyurethane, do you want to... hang out... together?

- ...Sure, bestie.

And if Polyurethane felt his face grow warm at the sight of the redhead’s mild, yet happy smile, he was quick to blame it on the rays of the setting sun.
