Summary:

Jackson tells Stiles about Lydia's phonecall.

Notes:

Tell me if you see mistakes.

This prompt had different possibilities, but curiously the title was my first title and my first option. I hope people will like this chapter. I have no idea.. But I have rewritten a lot and that's why it's longer than I had in mind.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“She said what?” Stiles asks, closing the fridge.

Jackson grabs the plastic container from Stiles’ right hand, leaving it on the counter. Next, Stiles takes out another one before closing the fridge.

Jackson snorts softly, “You heard me, it turns out that Louis is sterile, so she can’t get pregnant… Reason why they're considering other options.”

“Yeah, and having a baby with you is at the top of her list,” Stiles says, leaving the container on the opposite kitchen counter.

“Well, yeah, but not with me, exactly… I’d be just the donor. The father is gonna be—”

Stiles turns around to face Jackson, “But this baby is gonna have your genes—”

“And Lydia’s,” Jackson interrupts him.

“Right,” Stiles nods, leaning back against the counter, “And you’re way hotter than Louis—”

Jackson snorts. “Seriously?” Jackson shakes his head. “What does it have to do with anything? Besides, Louis is a very good-looking guy. It must be a requirement to join the FBI these days.”

“Okay, why didn't I know that's what you thought?” Stiles shrugs.

Jackson snorts, amused. “Maybe because you've never asked me? And besides, who cares what I think?” Jackson frowns.

“Well, I do. I wanna know what my husband thinks.”

Jackson licks his lips, smiling. “Fine,” Jackson can’t believe this. “I simply pointed out the obvious—the guy is pretty attractive—”

“I guess she has a type, right?”

Stiles closes his eyes. That came out entirely the wrong way. More bitter than he intended.

Jackson smirks. “You cannot possibly be jealous.”

“No, of course, I’m not fucking jealous. I just think that you’re better looking than he is, and Lydia knows that—”

“Yeah, no, sorry, I don’t think she thinks I’m better looking than her husband,” Jackson shrugs.

“Well, you are. And we have the cutest kids she’s ever seen, so of course, you are at the top of her list.”

“You’re right, we have the cutest kids,” Some things can’t be denied, “But can’t it be that she cares about me and that’s why she’s asked me?”

“Yeah, that too…” Stiles nods, “But I mean…”

Jackson smirks, licking his lips. It’s been a while, and it’s a little amusing.

“You’re ridiculous,” Jackson nods. "And cute."

“Shut up,” Stiles says, raising his eyebrows. He’s never been cute.

He’s not cute.

Definitely not the right adjective to define him.

“No, you’re jealous,” Jackson says matter-of-factly.

“I’m not jealous,” Stiles shakes his head.

“Yes, you are. I could feel it from a mile away.” No way he could hide it, and Stiles knows this, even if his brain chooses to ignore it sometimes.

“Shit, okay. Maybe,” Stiles shrugs, “Maybe I’m a little jealous.”

He’s the only one who is supposed to have a kid with his husband—With his mate. A best friend who also happens to be an ex-girlfriend is not supposed to have anything to do with Jackson’s sperm at this point or at any point. Especially when that sperm is not even human anymore. What’s wrong with Lydia? How doesn’t she realize that this is not one of her brightest ideas?

Stiles sighs, turning around to look away. “I have the right to be. This is just…” He can’t even find the words. It feels like a lot.

Jackson snorts, taking a few steps until he’s standing behind Stiles, wrapping his arms around his waist.

“I like it—My wolf likes it,” Jackson says against his left ear before kissing his neck below it.

“Please, shut up,” Stiles smiles.

“Should I remind you again that she’s married to Louis?” Jackson snorts. “I don’t wanna be the father, and neither do they. I’d be just helping her and Louis to be parents, okay? That’s all there is to this. Legally, I won’t have any right.” Stiles certainly must know that.

“Yeah, but she said everybody will know you are the biological father, right?”

Jackson takes a couple of steps back so that Stiles can face him again.

“What? Would you rather it was a secret? Is that what you are saying?”

“No… I’m not saying that…” Stiles shakes his head, “I mean, I don’t know. You just dropped this news on me, and I’m trying to understand what’s gonna happen if you do this.”

“Yeah, that’s why we need to talk to them—”

Stiles snorts, “Talk to them?” Stiles knows Lydia and knows how her mind works. She’s somebody who usually knows what she wants and doesn’t hesitate. When she got married, she proved that once again. “I think Lydia knows what she wants—It’s pretty clear. And Louis is gonna do whatever she wants to do because he wants a baby, he feels guilty and blames himself and, on top of that, he likes you, and of course, he’s a crazy as his Lydia is, not surprise there ‘cause he married her six months after they met, and so, he thinks that it’s a fucking great idea to have a baby who may or may not turn out to be a werewolf—

“Yeah,” Jackson interrupts him, “Well, you also didn’t care, you know?”

“I didn’t care because number one, we were fucking married, and number two, you are a wolf… It made total sense… but they are both human. Have they even talked to Derek about this?”

“I have no idea—It was a short conversation… But I don’t think so, and I don’t think they will because after all, they live in New York and if they actually needed a pack there, I’m sure that Derek would help them find one no matter how he felt about this whole thing.”

“So you’d have to go to New York, or would she come here?” Stiles frowns.

“Again, I don’t know,” Jackson shakes his head, “I guess that if their clinic is there, I should have to fly there…”

“Just great,” Stiles bends forward, resting his forearms on the counter.

“Look, I never said I’m gonna do this. I was just telling you what she told me,” Jackson insists.

“But it seems to me like you… Like you have already decided.” There it is. That’s the truth.

He knows that Jackson can’t say no to Lydia. He loves her, and part of them getting together was thanks to her. She was the first person who supported their relationship, and he knows how important her support was when he was in a coma. All in all, Stiles knows Jackson perfectly well and doesn’t need to ask anything to understand what is going through his mind and how he feels.

Jackson sighs, “Full disclosure?”

Stiles nods, “Please. ”

“Okay, I do, yeah, I’ve thought about it, and I wanna help them.”

“I knew it,” Stiles shrugs, “I knew it.”

“But—but I’ve not decided anything, and I won’t until we talk to them and we decide together. I’m not doing it if you’re not on board, all right? That’s out of the question.”

“Daddy, I’m hungry,” Five-year-old Daniel announces as he enters the kitchen.

“Oh, right,” Stiles says, as he remembers he’s supposed to be cooking the hamburgers, “Sorry, baby, dinner is… on the way...”

“Yeah,” Jackson, stepping closer to his son and running his right hand through his hair, “Keep watching the cartoons with your brother, okay? We’re working on it.”

Daniel sighs. “Okay,” He says, turning around and leaving as swiftly as he had appeared.

“Maybe this wasn’t the best time to tell you,” Jackson offers.

“No—No, it was. I know her, and if she called you at work, it’s because it’s important and she couldn’t wait... which means she expects us to call them tonight, so yeah,” Stiles nods, “Better now than at the table with the kids around.”

“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” Jackson agrees.

“Can you bring the lettuce, please?” Stiles says, turning around to open the plastic container.

“Yeah.” Jackson heads to the fridge, grabbing the lettuce.

“And the tuna, two tomatoes, and the corn,” Stiles adds.

“Right. Got it,” Jackson says, looking for everything before closing the fridge.

“I’ll start with the salad,” Jackson adds, leaving everything on the other counter.

There’s silence after that, but it is soon broken by a “Fine,” coming from Stiles as he cooks the hamburgers.

Jackson doesn’t reply as he is cutting the lettuce.

“Jackson, I said, fine… as in I’m not against it. That is, if you are okay with whatever else they have to tell us—”

Jackson turns around, frowning, “Are you sure?”

“Sure? I guess… I mean, I’m not filled with happiness… but okay,” Stiles nods.

“That’s not…” Jackson snorts softly, “That’s not exactly encouraging, you know?”

“It is… what it is…” Stiles shrugs, “It’s been a long time since I stopped trying to lie to you and your wolf, so what do you want me to say? If they ask me, that’s what I’m gonna say because I understand how she feels—How both of them feel. I know it’s hard and if you tell them you won’t do it, she’ll be hurt and then Louis will be upset, and since they are both very smart people, they’ll realize that i’m the one who wasn’t thrilled about it—-Which means they’ll blame me, and if the rest of the pack finds out, they’ll blame too, and to be completely honest, I don’t wanna live with that.”

After all, she’s not just a friend.

She’s pack.

She’s family.

It feels all kinds of wrong not to help your family when they need you the most.

Jackson wants to tell him that she will understand it and everything will be fine. That their relationship will continue as it’s always been until now, but it goes both ways; he can’t lie and pretend he disagrees.

“Okay, look, let’s finish this. After dinner, we’ll call them. And then, we’ll see.”

“Yeah, you’re right,” Stiles nods, walking towards the fridge.
