Chapter 1: The list
Chapter Text
It was another day like any other at Nevermore Academy. Every student was gathered at the so-called “square”—though it was actually shaped like a pentagon, as Wednesday kept stubbornly pointing out. And lunchtime was Enid’s favorite time of the day, of course. It’s true some classes were interesting, and certain events were fun, but at the end of it all, this was the moment she cherished the most. After all, who could say no to spending time with their friends—and with her girlfriend, Wednesday Addams, no less?
Because, yes. It was true. She still couldn’t quite believe it, but officially, the pink, Barbie-like werewolf Enid Sinclair and the infamous goth maniac everyone knew as Wednesday Addams were dating.
“I'm telling you, Professor Donavan has something against me, I just can't prove it yet.” Yoko, sitting on one of the tables beside Divina, had been rambling non-stop about how all the teachers were out to get her.
“Babe, I think you are just being delusional at this point…” Divina sighed with a smile at her girlfriend.
“I was hoping for maybe a little bit of comfort.” The vampire shot her an annoyed glance before turning to the werewolf with hopeful eyes. “You believe me, right Enid?”
“Well, of course! I even had a nightmare once where she was chasing me!”
“Oh god, that's actually so scary right now…”
Enid and Wednesday were sitting across from them. The blonde chattered happily, gossiping with her friends over their drinks. Giving the vampire all the attention and support she could muster—even though nothing she says really makes sense anymore. It's just how things were with Yoko and Enid, an idiot and another a little bit more idiot than the last. Enid being the second one.
Still, it was unusual for Wednesday to attend these kinds of gatherings. Enid is always trying to convince her into going with her, and the goth, preferring spending her valuable time doing something else, rarely gives in to her girlfriend's pleas. However, it seems this was one of those rare occasions.
Yoko still finds it strange as the raven just comes here to sit and stare with that cold gaze of hers. She could never get used to it, but since Wednesday was the werewolf’s girlfriend, she had a pass. Either way, Wednesday never really participated—nothing at all to be honest—aside from the occasional sarcastic remark to share her twisted, macabre opinion, but nothing beyond that. Usually, she spent her time reading some book, writing or simply staring at a dead spot thinking who knows what. Today, it was a book. Yet, it seemed incredible for Yoko as how Enid has managed to find the likes in someone like Wednesday Addams. But as long as Enid was happy, Yoko was happy too.
“Hahaha, right? And she is always like… doing this face, y'know?” Enid and the others kept talking—or maybe just laughing—about some other person they knew. But suddenly, in between their joyful moment, a dull noise became the protagonist: Wednesday closed her book.
“I shall return to the library. There is something I must deliberate.” The raven said, cold enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine. Her gaze, whatsoever, softened as soon as it landed on Enid's. “I'll meet with you at our dorm.” she said, gently placing her hand over the blonde’s before rising and walking away, leaving the table in stunned silence.
“All right! See you later, Wedns!” Enid called after her. When she finally turned back to her friends, she noticed both Yoko and Divina were looking at her with a frown of confusion on their faces. “What?”
“What do you mean, ‘what’? Girl, what the fuck was that just now?” Yoko asked.
“What do you mean?” Enid blinked, confused, like a lost child in a shopping mall.
“Enid, seriously? Your girlfriend just says goodbye to you and—no kiss? No hug? Just… a handshake? What even was that? She literally just placed her hand on yours.”
“I don't understand what you guys are saying.”
“Have you two fought?” Divina asked, more concerned than accusatory.
“What?! No, no, not at all!”
“Then what was that!?” Yoko asked again.
“Well…with Wednesday it's always like this.” Enid genuinely didn’t see the situation the way they did.
Both girls exchanged skeptical looks.
“You know?” Yoko began, narrowing her eyes, "You've never told me what your relationship with Wednesday is like.”
“Well, you've never asked…” Enid sipped through the straw of her colorful drink, oblivious.
“So…?”
“It's great.”
“Just great? That's all?”
“Y-Yeah, I mean… I…I really like her, and she is cool and—What do you want me to say?!” Shame began to rise up her cheeks until her whole face flushed red.
“Enid…can I ask…how many times have you guys cuddled, for example?” The vampire kept with her interrogation.
“Umm…maybe a couple of times…? I don't know.”
“And kissed? How many times have you kissed?”
“Hmm…” Enid paused, looking up as if the answer might be written on the sky. “I think…three or four times. Wait—do indirect kisses count?”
“No, they don’t count.”
“Then, just two.”
Yoko dropped her head into her hands in despair. “You have to be kidding me…”
“How long have you guys been dating?” Divina finally asked.
“Oh! We make four months in two weeks!” The siren and the vampire blinked at each other in disbelief.
“Enid… Does Wednesday even know you two are dating…?”
“What? Of course she does! Why would you even ask me that?”
“Are you sure…?”
“Yes! Or maybe…no—I’m pretty sure. I-I asked her to be my girlfriend and she said yes!”
“You need help, girl.”
“Help? Why?” This time, Enid was starting to get worried. Divina, noticing her distress, tried to calm things down before Yoko pushed it too far.
“Hey, come on Yoko, leave it already. You’re scaring her.”
“As I should! This is serious. Really serious.”
Enid’s puppy-dog eyes widened, filled with fear. She forgot her drink entirely, focused only on whatever “help” Yoko thought she needed.
“Have you at least said the three big words to each other?”
“The three big words…?”
“Y'know…” Yoko tried to explain moving her hands as if that movement alone would help Enid find the answer for herself—she didn't. The vampire sighed. “I love you.”
“Oh, I love you too, Yoko!”
“No, you idiot! Those are the big three! Jeez, I can't believe this… Have you told Wednesday ‘I love you’?”
The wolf stayed silent, pressing her lips together and looking the other way. Well, it's clear the answer is ‘still no’.
“Seriously?” Yoko gasped. “That’s so not like you…”
“I’ve wanted to, but I don’t want to rush her, okay?! What if she’s not ready?” Don’t misunderstand it, Enid really likes her relationship with Wednesday as it already is. But it's true that as a werewolf, physical closeness was an important way of expressing feelings—and Enid was full of love for Wednesday. So even though they have become closer on an emotional level, it was still clear as day there was one mountain she had yet to climb: actual progress. Not emotional progress—because Wednesday had, in her own morbid way, admitted that Enid was “tolerable to be around most days” (which Enid had translated as true love). No, the problem was physical progress.
“Enid, she’s Wednesday Addams. The girl keeps a guillotine in her closet. Trust me, she can handle a little hand-holding.”
The blonde bit her lip as concern and worry consumed her. “Ohmygod, you are right… What should I do?! I mean—with boys it was easy, things just…happened. But with Wednesday…I don’t even know where to start…”
“Calm down wolfie. I know exactly what you need.” Yoko slammed her bag onto the table, pulling out paper and pen. “I’m writing you the ultimate list.”
“A list? What list?”
“Oh, don't tell me you are giving her the list...” Divina tried to persuade.
“Yes, I'm giving her the list!” And without saying anything else she started to write in complete focus. It was as if it was the most important exam of her life. And the wolf, seeing her friend so concentrated, couldn't help but swallow when Yoko finally handed it to her. “Here you go.”
Enid’s eyes widened as she read:
How to progress with a girl (step by step):
Step 1: Hold hands
Step 2: Cuddle
Step 3: Light kiss (cheeks, forehead…)
Step 4: Kiss on the lips
Step 5: Rough kiss (Bite, hickey…)
Step 6: Make out
Step 7: The Holy Moly!
Enid's face lit up in pink hues. Her cheeks were so red to the point she was scared they would blow up any second. “Y-Yoko! What is this?!”
“Just a strategy, you are welcome.” She said calmly.
“I can't just follow this like some kind of recipe! And what even is the…Holy Moly?”
“If you manage to get to step 6—which would honestly surprise me—I will explain it to you, don't worry.”
“I really don’t think this is a good idea. Enid, baby, don’t worry about that, okay? Just be yourself,” Divina said gently.
“It worked with you…” Yoko muttered.
“Barely…” Divina teased.
“But it worked! Look, Enid. Just take it slow, no pressure. Go with the flow.”
“And why don't you just talk to her about it?” Divina added, sipping her coffee.
“That ruins all the romance.”
“Consent is important, Yoko.”
“I know, but it’s cuter when things just happen naturally.”
“Every couple develops differently, you can't force it.”
“I’m just trying to help my friend.”
“They will figure it out at their own pace.”
While the couple kept fighting, Enid couldn't stop reading the list over and over again. The steps were right there but still…it was terrifying. And Divina had a point—she could talk to Wednesday about it. But…could she?
The idea of physical closeness with her girlfriend had crossed her mind plenty of times, but actually doing it? That was another matter. Since the raven had rejected affection from the beginning, Enid has never dared to take a step further into it. Even a hug cost almost her life to get it, for god shake! But…could it be true that Wednesday maybe wanted to do all these things with her…? Was this the reason why they have been slower than a corpse in quicksand? Because Enid didn't quite dare to take action? Wednesday surely wouldn’t make the first move…would she?
“Alright!” she declared, standing abruptly. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes burning with determination.
“Alright what?” Yoko and Divina asked in unison.
One thing was certain: She had to do something.
“I’m going to follow the list.”
Chapter Text
The next day, everything seemed the same as always. Except for one tiny detail.
Enid hadn’t slept, not at all. And it wasn’t because she didn’t want to, but couldn’t. Her heartbeats were so loud she was almost afraid her heart would manage to rip out of her chest alien core, and crawl out of the room right then and there. And the silence of the night hadn’t helped either, it only gave more space for the thoughts tormenting her, completely surrounded.
At one point, she even had the brilliant idea of listening to music to help her sleep. With headphones, of course—waking Wednesday was the last thing she wanted. However, she was completely wrong. In fact, she achieved the exact opposite, all of the thoughts just grew stronger and now accompanied by cheesy K-pop love songs. What was she expecting, actually…?
But here she was, in class: sleep-deprived, distracted, and consumed by one thought.
Holding Wednesday's hand.
But…how was she supposed to do that?
Yoko had told her to “go with the flow”. But…could that be possible with Wednesday Addams as her target? I mean, if life was a river, then her girlfriend was the dead tree trunk blocking the current.
Ugh, how is this even possible?! Enid dropped her head into her hands. She hadn’t even tried yet, and she already felt like she’d failed. Every time she thought about how to approach this kind of situation she just freaked out as to how her girlfriend could react. What if she tried to just…do it, as if it were normal? Every scenario ended with Wednesday pulling out an axe and chopping her hand clean off.
That's awful!
Enid gasped, a shiver running down her spine at the mere thought of it. Terrifying. Has her girlfriend been this scary?
“What's wrong with you?” A cold voice and even colder stare snapped her out of it.
Oh. Right. She was still in class, by the way. And sitting right next to the very reason for her distress.
“A-Ah, W-Wednesday! H-Hi! Wh-What do you mean…? I-I'm perfectly fine…” Enid stammered, nervously scratching the back of her neck as if to feel some kind of support.
“You’re trembling and twitching like you’re in the middle of a panic attack. It’s unnerving.”
Oh yeah, a panic attack it's a great way to describe what was happening to Enid. But she couldn't admit it, not yet, not to Wednesday.
“I'm sorry… It's just…wolf stuff, I guess.”
(And also because I want to hold your hand and kiss you and touch you and say how much I love—)
“You are doing it again.” Wednesday’s narrowed eyes pierced her.
Oh fuck. Enid froze. Once more, her intrusive thoughts took over her. Now, both raven and wolf were staring at each other: blue eyes wide open and black gaze suspicious and searching. What was wrong with her? Wednesday was starting to suspect something and Enid hadn’t even done anything yet. What a disappointment.
“Are you cold?” Wednesday asked suddenly, her gaze softening ever so slightly.
“H-Huh? N-No… I-I just—” She tried to explain, both hands raised in surrender. But before she could say anything further, a cold touch pressed against her forehead. Wednesday’s hand.
Enid swallowed. Hard. Frozen in place. The shivers were gone, replaced by sweat and a heart racing so violently it threatened to escape again. She’s touching me. SHE’S TOUCHING ME. And faster than Enid had dared to try, too. Humiliating!
Wednesday withdrew her hand, staring at her with the same intensity as before. “You’re warm and sweaty. Are you sure you’re not suffering from a terminal illness?”
(Being in love with you is surely a terminal illness!)
“As much as I enjoy death looming near, I don’t find it pleasant if you’re the one experiencing it.”
Aww…she’s worried about me. Wednesday is actually worried. Ohmygod she’s so cute!
“I-I'm fine, Wednesday. Really. Don't worry about it, okay?” She tried to assure her softly. And even though her girlfriend was not entirely convinced, she left it be, giving her a slow nod of her head and focusing again on the class in front of them.
The blonde sighed in relief. Phew… Back to normal. Or at least…kind of. Except…not really. Because the thought of holding Wednesday’s hand crept back instantly.
This isn't going to stay like this! It couldn't be that complicated, right? Is just a hand. Nothing more! The only thing to worry about is not worrying about it. Just relax… You’ve got this Enid!
Okay, focus. Everyone else was paying attention to the lesson. No one was watching her. No one expected anything. And Wednesday's hand was right there, resting on the desk while she wrote with her other hand.
She just needed to reach out…
Slowly…
And with a lot of caution…
And she will be fine! Yes… just do it.
Do it…
Do it.
Do it!
SLAM!
…
…
…
Huh?
“Enid Sinclair! Why are you hitting the table?! Do you realize you’re damaging school property?!” the professor barked.
Enid stared at her teacher, wide-eyed.
Then at her own hand. There was no sight of Wednesday’s.
And then at her girlfriend—realizing she had simply moved her hand to turn a page in her book right before Enid could reach it.
This is just bad luck…
“A-A bug! Th-There was…a-a bug! On the table, Miss Menerik!” she blurted, desperate, saying the first excuse that came to mind.
“Keep quiet and pay attention. And please, no more slamming the table.”
“R-Right!”
This is bad… Oooh… This is so bad…
The class was finally over. Thank god. But now the moment was lost again. Wednesday was nowhere to be found since Enid had left the class as soon as the bell rang. It was almost as if she had run away from the spot. She could have waited for her girlfriend and gone to the next class together as they normally do, but she was too embarrassed to do so.
Now she was hiding behind a corner in the hallway, taking advantage of the time alone to calm her nerves.
“Uughh….” Enid covered her face in shame. If anyone saw her now, they’d describe her as a giant, dumb tomato. But, seriously. What was wrong with her?! She has never been this nervous, ever. Physical touch has always been her thing. It was her love language, no less!
Even before dating Wednesday, it was something she never thought twice. If she wanted to do it, she did. But now that she was fully aware of her relationship with the goth girl and that cursed step-by-step list, she couldn’t even look at her for more than two seconds without short-circuiting! Thinking has never been her strong suit, that’s for sure.
The blonde slapped her cheeks with both hands as if to wake herself up. Come on, Enid! Get it together! You’ve done this millions of times. You tried once and you failed. But is that reason enough to give up? No! Absolutely not! You will try again and succeed. You can do it. You can do it! YOU CAN DO IT!
“I CAN DO IT!”
“What can you do, exactly?”
“We-We-Wednesday!!”
Jesus Christ! Where had she come from?! Wednesday was just standing there, staring with her usual deadpan expression.
“Why are you hiding in a dark and cold corner? Are you trying to get my attention?” She deliberately accused without much reaction.
“N-Nothing! I was just…waiting for you. Yeah. Let’s go to the next class, shall we?” The wolf said quickly, resuming her pace and assuming Wednesday would follow.—which she did.
“You are extremely strange today.” Enid didn’t even dare to respond. At this point, any answer could just be used against her, it wasn’t worth it. So she just kept walking, swallowing again, hoping Wednesday wouldn't go into detective mode. “What happened in class?” Well…she can’t escape.
“I-In class, you say…?” Enid averted her gaze. Maybe if she acted oblivious, Wednesday would let it go.
“Yes. You slammed the table. You claimed there was a bug. But there was no bug.” Okay, now what? Come on, Enid… Think! Think!
“Um…wolf stuff?” The raven glanced at her from the corner of her eye. “S-Sometimes I have… sudden impulses, like…spasms and…chills. And in some cases… I make involuntary movements.”
The goth stayed quiet for a second. Maybe a minute. Oh no… Had it not been convincing enough? A cold sweat trickled down Enid’s forehead.
“Mph. Interesting.”
It worked?
“Lycanthropy has always fascinated me. As a child I was obsessed with knowing everything about werewolves, and yet I didn’t know about this detail. Involuntary movements, you say?”
Enid nodded weakly, trying to convince even herself of her own lie.
“I see. It actually makes sense. The earliest European accounts describe uncontrolled twitches as a precursor to transformation. Some even claimed the nervous spasms were proof that the beast was tearing at the human flesh from the inside. Primitive medicine confused them with seizures, but clearly they underestimated the physiological shift.”
Um, okay?
Her tone grew darker, more animated. “Of course, in Slavic folklore it wasn’t tremors, but violent teeth-chattering. Then you have the Nordic sagas, which talk about blood heating up so rapidly that victims had nosebleeds before the full change. I’ve memorized at least twelve regional variants of these symptoms, but yours seems like a fascinating hybrid.”
Enid blinked. Since when did Wednesday know this much about werewolves? A part of her would like to believe her girlfriend was so in love with her she had taken the trouble to read everything about her species in order to know and learn more facts about her. But in reality, it was just average knowledge for her.
But wait… Now that she thought about it, this was the perfect chance. Wednesday was still rumbling, and her hand was right there while they walked side by side. Slim fingers, cold, pale and motionless, yet impossibly magnetic.
She just needed to reach out slowly…a brush of her fingers would be enough. That’s how desperate she was.
“...and the Bavarian trials specifically mention restless limbs at night. Imagine, a village convinced someone was guilty of lycanthropy just because their leg twitched in their sleep. Human stupidity never fails to entertain me.”
Okay, Enid. Breathe in. Breath out. You’ve got this, girl.
Wednesday's words faded into a distant murmur. In a way, she felt guilty for not listening to her girlfriend's speech. But she couldn’t help it. Holding her hand was all she could think about.
Finally, Enid moved her hand slowly, pretending to look elsewhere as if it were unplanned. Her pinky inched closer to the raven’s. She couldn’t be reckless this time—otherwise, she’d slam not the table but Wednesday’s hand, and that wasn’t romantic at all…
So she kept moving slowly. And before she could even notice, Wednesday had stopped talking. And walking.
Their hands were touching.
Oh god.
Maybe just their pinkies, but that was already something. Enid stared at her, scared of what the raven might say—or do. But Wednesday only looked at her, without saying a single word. However, she didn’t move her hand either. Maybe she was waiting for the blonde to explain. Or maybe she was just processing the situation. With Wednesday, you never know what she might be thinking.
“U-Um… Y-You were right before… I-I’m cold…” Girl, what? What kind of explanation is that?!
“Enid, I can measure your temperature accurately. Your body temperature is exactly 38.4 degrees,” she accused. Yet Wednesday did not remove her hand.
“W-Werewolves have a higher temperature than humans, f-for example.” Enid mumbled, not daring to meet her gaze. Just touching her hand was intense enough. “38.4º is actually cold…for me.”
The blonde didn’t wait for an actual answer, she was too flustered to do so. So she tried to savor the moment as much as she could before Wednesday decided to end it.
But then, something happened.
Suddenly, the wolf’s hand was enclosed in a cold grip. And Enid, snapping out of her reverie, finally looked at the other girl.
Wednesday was holding her hand. She was holding it. She was. Wednesday’s hand in hers, together. Touching. She was touching her. SHE WAS HOLDING WEDNESDAY’S HAND.
“Would this help?” Wednesday asked, serious as always, though her tone was soft.
“A-Aahmm…”
“It seems you were trying to reach my hand in order to raise your temperature, since you mentioned you were cold. However, I don’t quite understand how I can be of any assistance. My body temperature is much lower compared to yours.”
They keep walking, this time, hand in hand. Enid couldn’t believe it. She made it. She was holding Wednesday’s hand! Well…maybe Wednesday was the one who held hers, but still, she started it, so it counted as a win.
“Y-Yes! Yes…it’s helping. I can tell you, it’s really helping. Thank you Wednesday…” Enid said, a silly smile creeping on her face. And her blushing cheeks were no longer shameful or born of embarrassment, but happiness.
“There is no need. Your warmth is not entirely unpleasant either.” Enid chuckled. Was Wednesday Addams slowly melting for her?
She intertwined their fingers. And, once again, Wednesday didn’t complain. Now that the step had been taken, the wolf was no longer afraid. Her heart raced, but determination burned stronger. Just this gesture was enough to prove she is capable of doing it. This was just the beginning.
“Hey, Wednesday?”
“Yes, Enid?”
“We are dating, right?”
“Of course, my love. What nonsense are you rambling about now?”
“Just making sure.”
Notes:
my god these two are so dumb, i fucking swear to god. These bitches are gay, good for them! good for them! But, seriously, Enid may seem nervous and dumb about it at first, but she will be getting bold chapter by chapter. You just wait. Well, hope you guys liked it. More to come soon!!
Chapter Text
“Okay Thing, listen up!”
Enid and Thing were in their dorm, with no sign of Wednesday around. Something the wolf wasn’t exactly enjoying—since the raven’s presence was always cherished and appreciated. However, as she knew, Wednesday would now be with Eugene in the beehive, doing who-knew-what. Geeky stuff, probably. Which gave them the perfect time and place to discuss Enid's next step: cuddling.
Even though the idea thrilled her, she couldn’t help but tremble in terror and anxiety. Sure, she had already managed to hug her girlfriend once—on that fateful night of the Hyde's attack. Her heart still hammered against her chest just thinking about it…
But this wasn’t a hug. Not at all. This was cuddling. That was like…hugging endlessly, until both of you get tired of it. Which, for Enid, would be never! But she understood Wednesday’s limits when it came to personal space and alone time.
And it was true—they had cuddled before. The first time was when Enid somehow convinced Wednesday to watch a movie on her bed. She still had no idea how she managed it, but the raven stayed by her side the whole film. Unfortunately, Enid fell asleep, and it wasn’t until the next morning that she realized she had been hugging Wednesday all night. The raven wasn’t disgusted, but she sure confessed, in her own words: “Enid, I’m paralyzed.”
How humiliating… Was Wednesday calling her heavy right there? She couldn’t tell.
The second time wasn’t much different. Enid had woken in the middle of the night from a horrendous nightmare—her favorite boy band broke up. Can you imagine?! Horrific. So she walked over to Wednesday’s bed, pleading to sleep with her. And though Wednesday usually preferred her bed to herself, she couldn’t resist Enid’s puppy eyes. She gave in, and once again, Enid fell asleep in Wednesday’s arms.
But this couldn’t keep happening. Both times, Enid had just fallen asleep. What was she? A baby? Oh, no sir. She wasn’t—Well, maybe for Wednesday. But that’s not the point! She wasn’t some fragile creature who just passed out whenever she needed comfort. No. And she was determined to prove it.
“Here’s the plan.” Thing rested on Enid’s bed, listening carefully between colorful plushies and sheets. Enid, meanwhile, stood before him with notebook in hand and a fiery, determined expression.
“You see, Thing. Wednesday doesn’t like to cuddle. Or…at least that’s what I think…” she explained, pacing around the room like a general plotting strategy. “But one thing is certain—every time Wednesday has agreed to cuddle with me, it was because I was sad about something.”
Thing tapped the bed, signaling that he was following attentively.
“So…I had a brilliant idea.” The wolf turned her notebook so Thing could see. “I wrote down a bunch of possible reasons that might make me sad!” she cheered proudly.
Thing raised his fingers, pointing at one of the items. No more nail polish?
“Hey! That’s really devastating, okay?” Enid defended, snatching her notebook back. “When Wednesday comes back, I’ll pretend to be crying so she’ll know I need comfort. And what’s better comfort than cuddles? It’s the perfect bait! Ugh, Enid, you’re a genius.”
As soon as she was about to continue her lecture with her hand friend, the door opened and closed with a swift creak.
Enid spun around faster than a weather vane on a stormy day, hiding the notebook behind her back. And Thing didn't take long to hide beneath Enid’s pillows. You can already imagine who had walked in…
“W-Wednesday! Y-You are here!” Enid squeaked, a big, definitely not suspicious smile plastered on her face.
“I am. Hello.” The raven said flatly, going directly towards her desk, completely ignoring her girlfriend’s strange behavior. I guess she is just getting used to it by now.
Enid had been hoping for more time to mentally prepare her act. But apparently, that wasn’t going to happen. She would have to start now.
With her back turned, Wednesday busied herself at her typewriter, oblivious to anything else. And Enid, carefully stuffed her notebook into a drawer before taking a deep breath and closing her eyes.
Three…two…one… Action!
“Aw, this is terrible!” She cried, throwing herself dramatically onto her bed, pounding the blankets in fake frustration.
“Enid? What’s wrong?” Wednesday asked softly, a slight frown forming on her pale face.
Great! It was working. The pale girl left her writing completely unattended with the sole purpose of approaching Enid’s side of the room, slow and deliberate.
“Ugh, Wednesday… Haven’t you noticed? The day… The day it’s awful! It’s cloudy and windy and… I’m just so sad…”
Enid peeked behind her shoulder to see Wednesday’s reaction. However, she maintained herself at a distance. Like if she was plotting something.
“Eugene is dead.”
…
…
…
“What!?”
Wednesday faced Enid with a serious expression on her face, hands clasped calmly in front of her. “I am, as it’s normally said, joking.”
“Oh. my. god. Wednesday! Don’t you ever joke about that again!!”
What the actual fuck?
“I apologize. I was attempting to improve your mood by telling an unpleasant lie, then disproving it to give you relief. It’s what most people consider, as you may know already, a joke.”
“That joke is not funny at all!”
“It's something I'm still working on.”
The blonde sighed, groaning softly and standing up properly. Okay, no worries. There were plenty more ideas. She wasn’t giving up yet.
“Oh, no…No, no, no…This is…This can’t be… It has to be a mistake!” She wailed, sitting on her bed defeated and covering her face with both of her hands.
“What is it now, Enid?” The raven hadn’t moved, staring at her girlfriend in complete focus. Perfect—still working.
“Oh, Wednesday…I just realized…I have nothing to wear! All my clothes are dirty, or out of trend! What am I gonna do?” She sobbed dramatically, peeking just enough to watch Wednesday’s reaction again.
“Yoko is dead.”
…
…
…
“Huh!?”
“As a matter of fact, I was joking. Again. I thought using Yoko’s name might generate more relief, since you have more affection for her. Did I succeed in making you feel better?”
“Absolutely not! You’re terrible at this!”
Wednesday nodded looking away, like if she was somehow ashamed. “I apologize.”
Enid grunted, sighing in frustration and standing up from her bed. “It’s okay, just…don’t do it again, please.” She pleaded, placing a hand on her forehead and thinking how to proceed from now on. Was her strategy really working…?
Wednesday nodded in understatement. Then, she fell quiet, waiting for Enid to continue. “Anything else I should know?”
Okay, Enid. This is your last chance, girl. Take it or leave it, but this is it. There must be something… Something that may work… Maybe her excuses had been…simple or mild? Wasn’t her interpretation good enough? That may be it. She needs to be more dramatic. More tears, more sadness, more hurt!
Okay then, here goes nothing.
“Oh yes…there’s something else…” The blonde paced the room, staring at the window like the tragic star of a sad music video. “But, no… No…It’s terrible… I don’t even want to talk about it…”
“Enid. What’s the matter?” Wednesday pressed, stepping closer, careful not to overstep.
“It’s just…” She sobbed. “It’s Ajax. He…he called me dumb.” She sniffed rubbing at her cheeks as though drying tears. “He said, ‘Enid, you’re dumb. Dumb, dumb, idiot.’ Oh, it’s so sad…I’m so sad right now… If only… If only someone would help me…” She hugged herself tightly, not daring to look at her girlfriend yet.
Wednesday had gone strangely silent, but that could only mean her performance was a complete success! Right?
…Right?
Enid turned around slowly, only to find Wednesday just standing there. Cold gaze frowning against her, fists clenched at her sides.
“U-Um…Wednes—?”
“What did he say, again?” She threatened. Eyes so dark Enid wasn’t even sure if it was exactly Wednesday anymore. More like a possessed doll taken from a horror movie.
“N-No, wait—you see, it wasn’t that serious, really. It’s noth—”
“The gorgon made you cry?” Wednesday persisted, her jaw tight.
Oh no, this is not going so well.
“L-Look, Wednesday. It’s fine! Really! I’m not crying, see?” Enid forced the most convincing smile she could. But Wednesday’s expression didn’t change.
...
“Ajax is dead.”
And with that, she spun on her heel and stormed out of the room.
“A-Ah—What?! W-Wait! You’re joking again, right?!” Enid yelped, scrambling after her. “It’s a joke, right?! W-Wednesday! Wednesday!!”
“Wednesday, wait! Come back here!” Enid called, stopping for a moment to rest her hands on her knees. “Huff…huff… Ohmygod, she is so fast…” The blonde chased the raven down the school halls without much success. Even though Enid had slightly better stamina than most, she couldn’t catch up to her girlfriend.
Wednesday kept going, ignoring anyone and anything that dared to get in her way. Yoko witnessed it, casually walking down the hallway when the goth passed by with her piercing gaze and determined stride.
“Hi, Wednesday!” she greeted, but the seer ignored her completely, rushing past in order to reach her target as quickly as possible. “…And goodbye, Wednesday.”
Enid arrived a few moments later, panting heavily.
“Hey, wolfie. What’s up? Is the list working…?” The vampire asked with a cocky smirk.
“Y-Yoko…W-Wednesday…” Enid tried to speak, still catching her breath.
“Yeah, I saw her. She looked really scary… But, hey. Have you put the list into practice yet? You haven’t told me anything.”
Finally, Enid managed to get the words out. “Wednesday is going to kill Ajax!” she warned.
…
“...What?”
A scream echoed at the end of the hallway—where Ajax’s dorm was. Both wolf and vampire looked at each other in disbelief.
Shit.
They sprinted towards the source of the noise, only to witness the fateful scene: the gorgon lying on the floor like a butterfly with its wings spread, and her girlfriend on top of him, knife in hand, ready to slit his throat with a single motion.
“You will pay for all your sins.”
“Please! I don’t know what you are talking about!” The boy pleaded, terrified.
“Wednesday, what are you doing?!” Enid screamed. Yoko, however, stayed behind, afraid that intervening would only make things worse.
“Oh, guys...thank god you are here. C-Could you—”
“Silence.” Wednesday threatened, pressing the knife even harder against the gorgon's neck. Ajax froze, cold sweat dripping down his face.
“Wednesday, stop this already!” Enid begged, desperate.
This shouldn’t be happening. Why was she in this position right now? They should be cuddling, or holding hands, or maybe just on a date spending their time together. But this? What the fuck was this?!
They could be doing couple stuff, but no. Her girlfriend had to be on top of one of her friends, threatening to kill him with a single swing of her knife. And all because Enid hadn’t been brave enough to ask directly for what she wanted. This was all her fault. None of this would be happening if she hadn’t lied to Wednesday, if she hadn’t set up that whole performance. What a coward.
“He dared to disrespect you. It's something I can't overlook.”
This is it. If anyone can stop this, it has to be her.
“Wednesday Addams, stop what you are doing. Right. Now.” Finally, the raven snapped out of her fury, turning to her girlfriend with a confused frown.
“But Enid, he—”
“Now.” Arms crossed and piercing glare was enough for the seer to stop talking and standing up without another word. “Come on.” Enid ordered firmly, storming out of the room without checking if Wednesday followed.
However, the goth cast Ajax one last warning look before leaving in silence, trailing after her girlfriend.
Yoko and Ajax were left behind. The gorgon blinked in shock, still frozen on the floor.
“...Okay. What was that?”
“Wednesday Addams, I guess. And for the record, I have nothing to do with this.” Yoko blurted before leaving as fast as she could.
Now, returning with the wolf and the crow. Back at their dorm, Enid paced the room with her arms crossed, sighing in frustration. Wednesday followed her movements with quiet, unblinking eyes. With the door closed, they were finally alone again.
“What was that just now?!” Enid snapped, her gaze finally locking with Wednesday’s.
“An attempted murder, obviously.” She said, her tone was plain, calm—like it was the most normal thing in the world.
“I know that! But, what was that, Wednesday?! You can’t just try to kill my friends whenever something inconvenient happens.”
“He made you cry. I think that’s reason enough to deserve death.” Wednesday defended, convinced she was just making justice, or more specifically—standing up for her girlfriend.
As twisted as it was, Enid couldn’t deny part of her found that almost romantic. But still—her girlfriend had nearly killed one of her friends because of a white lie.
“Ugh…” Enid groaned, finally collapsing onto her bed and sighing in defeat.
“You seem… upset,” the raven pointed out, confused.
“Because I am upset, Wednesday!” The girl sighed again, slowly laying down and curling up. “I just… need to rest for a while.”
Wednesday frowned, unsure of what she should be doing or saying. Approaching carefully, she hesitated—leave her alone, or try to comfort her? She couldn’t decide. She was useless in any way, but she could still try.
“Are you mad at me?” Her voice was quiet and soft, almost afraid of knowing the answer.
Enid sighed tiredly. “No… No, Wednesday. It’s just…” She tried to explain. “This is all my fault, okay? I guess I don't know what I'm doing anymore…”
She thought again about the list of things that could make her sad in that notebook, but none of them compared to how crushed she was feeling right now. And what was the reason exactly? She didn't know anymore. Maybe it wasn’t a big deal, but for Enid, it felt like another failure.
The best thing she could do right now was to stay back before making things worse. The situation had already gotten out of hand.
“Enid.” Wednesday’s voice was softer now.
“Mmh?” She muttered, still facing away. The blonde was sure that if she looked at her girlfriend right now, she'd burst into tears. And that wasn't going to happen.
It was strange. Wednesday stayed quiet longer than expected, More than she would like to admit. But finally, she said. “...Is there anything I can do to make you feel better? Since murder is not possible and my jokes don't seem to work.”
Oh…Wednesday…
Even her girlfriend has more guts to ask properly what she is really thinking than Enid herself.
Enid couldn't help it, she turned around, finally meeting her girlfriend’s gaze. She was still standing beside her bed, inches away from the colorful sheets, hands clasped in front of her, waiting for direction.
The wolf couldn’t hold it anymore. She nodded weakly, opening her arms ever so slightly as if she was trying to reach out for her girlfriend. Tears threatened to fall, but she held them back.
She still wasn't sure how Wednesday managed to understand exactly what she wanted, but she did. With a small nod, she slipped into the bed beside her, letting the wolf cling to her tightly. She almost looked like a scared puppy left out in the rain. And even though Wednesday didn't like the fact that her girlfriend was feeling sad, she found it adorable in a way.
Enid buried herself in the raven’s neck, intoxicated by her scent of ink, dark wood and old books, pressing closer and closer. Like if the only thing she wanted right now were being completely consumed by her girlfriend's scent and her firm embrace.
She has never been this close with her, not even when they cuddled on that night she had a nightmare. No, this was different. She was awake, fully aware—and Wednesday was holding her just as tightly. One hand cradled the back of her head, while Enid gripped at the raven’s clothes—something that didn't seem to matter to the goth.
“Does this feel any better?” Wednesday murmured, so soft Enid’s heart nearly burst.
My god…
Her chest suddenly became tight and tiny for her stuttering heart, hammering against her ribcage like a wild animal in a zoo. And it was so loud… She was almost afraid Wednesday would hear it.
How is her girlfriend bearing this situation, anyway? Enid was feeling hot, sweaty, and breathless. It was suffocating! Not that she didn't like it. Of course not. But if she could die of something, she would like it to be like this.
She only nodded, a tiny whine escaping her lips against the raven's neck. That was enough for the dam to break—tears slipped free despite her effort to hide them. Sobbing as quietly as possible just for her girlfriend not to notice—but of course, she did.
“Enid. Why are you crying?”
“I’m not crying…” She lied, sobbing.
“Your shoulders are trembling and my neck is wet. I’m fairly certain you are.” Enid didn’t respond. What for, exactly? Wednesday’s blunt observation left no room for denial. “What’s the reason? Tell me.”
But Enid just hugged her tighter, overwhelmed.
“Is it because what Ajax called you?” The girl shook her head. “Is it because of me? Did I…make you cry?” Once again, the answer was no. “Then, why? Tell me the reason for your distress and I will end it.”
Would she be able to tell the truth? What was she really thinking? Feeling? Suddenly, it was all too much to bear. But, she still didn’t dare to answer.
She stayed silent, drowning in her feelings and the intoxicating scent of her girlfriend. It was too much. To the point she didn’t even notice Wednesday had gently cupped her cheeks, forcing the blonde to look at her. “Enid, as much as I like seeing people cry, your tears have become nothing but my true enemy.”
Her cold thumbs wiping away her warm tears soothed her more than she expected.
“Can you just…hold me? Please…”
And without hesitation, the raven nodded, embracing her girlfriend once again between her arms. A shaky sigh escaped the blonde's lips. Was this heaven? A place and state she felt truly at ease. As if everything bad vanished in a matter of seconds.
God, I want to kiss her so bad right now…
Enid thought. However, before that thought alone consumed her, something else caught her attention.
“Wednesday… Why is your skin red and irritated?” She asked, worried.
“I’m allergic to color. It’s giving me a reaction. I estimate I have half an hour before imminent death becomes a concern.”
Enid bolted upright. “What?! Why didn’t you say anything?!”
Despite the wolf's concern, the raven seemed really calm.
“I have medicine to nullify it. But your condition seemed more important to me.”
“Go take it. Now. We’ll keep cuddling after.”
The raven nodded, leaving the bed and walking to her desk. Which gave Enid just enough time for the blonde to realize what she’d said.
Wait…
Keep…cuddling?
Oh god…
Oh fuck.
OH MY GOD.
Her whole body flushed with heat, embarrassment, and giddy excitement. Finally! All her skin was burning like an erupting volcano. But she didn’t care! In the end, this hadn’t been such a failure after all.
“Yes! The next step has been completed!” She cheered.
“What step?”
Shit—Wednesday was already back at her side. That was fast!
“N-Nothing!”
Her girlfriend narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“L-Let’s just keep cuddling!”
“Whatever you wish, my love.”
Notes:
Okay this chapter was LONG. my god. But whatever, I just looove Wednesday being this yearning. I hope you guys liked it, I'm not sure if I'm making the actual physical scenes too short, you let me know. Either way, thanks for reading! Next chapter: kiss on the cheek. Beware.
