Work Text:
Now, Peter doesn't really consider himself a violent man. But it must be said that Jack and Eleanor Carter …. do not make him have very pleasant thoughts. In fact, Peter's mother would be very … displeased about the level of unpleasantness that those vile creatures made Peter think every time they are mentioned, or on the rare occassions that they actually show up.
The thing is - Carter is so desperate for approval that it can be smelled from three blocks away and seen from a neighboring country. So the fact that they just chose not to do the very basic roles of parent… well. It's infuriating.
Then there's the "We're in Tokyo and can't come to the hospital when our son's been stabbed" incident.
So, yes, Peter harbors unpleasant thoughts about them. Often.
This morning, for example, when they were planning on coming to the bonfire, and Carter had said to him, "I've never actually toasted a marshmallow. My parents thought it was too messy. And... a bit ... working class."
That had given Peter some very unpleasant thoughts about people who were, for all intents and purposes, his in-laws.
He'd grumbled and used words that his mother - may she rest in peace - definitely wouldn't have approved of.
Fortunately, his son is a much better and more pleasant person than Peter is - or, at least, has a more direct method of handling the lesser Carters' influence. Immediately upon arriving at the bonfire, Reese takes Carter's hand and tugs him towards the marshmallows.
Currently, Peter is watching Reese excitedly explain the proper way to toast a marshmallow.
And, of course, Carter is a very captive audience - as he always has been, when anyone had given a damn.
Peter really, really hates Carter's parents.
