I wrote Eugene's view, then the lovely Lady_Rhaena inspired me to write Babe's.
Eugene can't stand to listen to the cries of his men, knowing he's been instructed to sit back from the patrol. It's when he finds out that someone is drowning that he steps in.

Joe does the only thing he can think of and extends his arms. He just wants to hold Andy, wants to feel that he is real and present, wants the warmth of that confirmation. He wants Andy to know that though Joe’s words are failing him, he is so, so very loved.
Andy comes to him easily, always has. He hesitates, not wanting to hurt him by holding on too tight. There’s a metaphor there, he’s certain. But he can’t be bothered to give a shit about any of it. He pulls Andy close, and can feel more than hear the terribly shaky breath Andy takes as his facade begins to crumble. Andy shakes in his arms, his face as turned into Joe’s chest as it can be without causing any pain. Andy is always thinking about anyone but himself. Fucking asshole.

If anything he should be glad it’s over. He should be glad it’s not his problem anymore. But he's not. Because he keeps thinking about some of their first gigs, just the four of them. About nights in the van. About nights in the apartment. About their first real tour. He keeps thinking about when he got the call that they were signed. He had cried then too. It had felt so hopeful. He could make a career out of this, he could finally do what he had always wanted to do, with people he cared about, with guys he loved.
They still have several shows left on this tour and yet.. He already misses them more than he could say.
It hurts worse than losing just friends but he's too afraid to put words to it, even if it doesn't matter now anyway.
