Work Text:
Hitoshi had everything for the day planned out for weeks. He had reviewed the plans with everyone involved to the point that Bakugo threatened to call it off if he bothered him one more time. So Hitoshi backed off. He would not let anything disrupt his proposal to Denki. Except Denki was impulsive and never liked to stick with plans.
"I want to go to the zoo," Denki suddenly announced, catching Hitoshi off guard.
The zoo was not on his planned list for the day. "Really? I thought we might go to that new cat cafe today," Hitoshi answered, scratching the back of his neck.
"But it's gorgeous outside, Toshi! I wanna get out and walk," Denki responded.
"We can walk to the cafe..."
"But they have that new big cat exhibit right now!" Denki pouted.
Hitoshi looked to the side trying to think of a solution, “Uhhhh but—”
His fingers tapped at his sides quickly. He thought of all his training, how Aizawa always said to be ready for anything and everything. Easy to say when your boyfriend literally was impossible to say no to. “I hear the cat cafe has a specialty drink that stops after today! It’s uhhhh peach ring flavor.”
“Peach ring?” Denki squeaked excitedly, “Hot damn I’m in! I’ll go change now!”
Hitoshi released a sigh of relief as his boyfriend disappeared into their room. He texted the group that Denki and him were a ‘go’ for the cat cafe and would be leaving soon.
“Okay I’m ready!” Denki walked out, on his phone, playing some mobile game that kept screaming tasty and delicious.
“Okay let’s…goooo…” Hitoshi stretched the words out as he looked down at the shirt Denki was wearing. The t-shirt said ‘Certified Cream Pie Pro,’ and the sweatpants looked normal but he knew this pair. They were the ones that said ‘Powered by Bottom Energy.’ He was NOT proposing to Denki with him wearing that. Denki would kill him if the photos of their engagement were of him in this.
"Wait!" Hitoshi exclaimed, before Denki was one step out the door. "Let me grab the drink I forgot about and pick up the trash so we can throw it out."
Denki waited in the entrance and Hitoshi ran to the kitchen, leaving the cap of his juice loose and picking the trash bag up. "I'm ready."
He walked fast towards Denki when he suddenly "slipped" on the floor, draining the whole bottle on top of him. "Oh no, Denki I'm so sorry. I slipped! I'm sorry!"
"Don't worry babe, I can't attack you when I've almost fallen in worse ways."
"Do you want to take a quick shower? Let me pick out your clothes while you're at it, so you don't have to be all wet while deciding."
"I can be a different type of wet if you shower with me." Denki gave him a wink while walking towards the bathroom.
Hitoshi shook his head, going to their bedroom. When he closed the door he said a Yes! out loud. The plan took a little turn but it was still on the way. They still had an hour to reach the cafe, enough time for the 20 minute walk.
"Babe?"
Hitoshi had just gotten an outfit he deemed fit for a casual cafe trip, but also for engagement photos when he heard Denki's call. "Yeah?" he called back, making his way towards the bathroom with the clothes in hand.
"We're out of hot water," Denki informed him, opening the bathroom door to peek out.
His blond hair was weighed down unevenly, likely from having turned on the water and instantly jumping out again when he realized the water was too cold for his taste. Despite liking his showers ungodly hot, Denki still didn't have the patience to let the water run before stepping under the shower head.
"Did you let it run?" Hitoshi checked just to be sure, offering the clothes he had grabbed to the blond.
With a pout, Denki took the offered outfit. "I did," he said, as if it had been unreasonable of Hitoshi to even ask. "It's still cold."
Allowing himself a deep breath, Hitoshi nodded. "Okay, that's fine, you can take a cold shower," he suggested gently.
That rewarded him with a glare. "I'm not showering in ice cold water,” Denki said firmly enough that Hitoshi almost regretted spilling a drink on the other in the first place. Then he thought about what Denki had been planning to wear and remembered it was the right call.
Hitoshi made a strained sound in the back of his throat but forced a smile. “Maybe we could do something about that?”
Denki’s eyes shone with excitement, “Oh yeah?” he asked, voice low.
Hitoshi advanced, walking Denki backwards to the opening of the still running shower. “Yeah.”
He put a hand on Denki’s chest and pushed him gently into the shower under the cold spray as he shut the door behind him. Denki let out an ear piercing scream as he stood under the cold spray hitting the glass. “The fuck!”
“Sorry, but you’ll thank me later!”
Hitoshi held the glass door shut as Denki shook the handle before giving up and began actually washing himself under the spray. “I’m going to beat your ass later!” Denki shouted as Hitoshi made sure the clothes were on the counter, then headed back to their room.
Twenty minutes later he was about to check when Denki came out, hair damp but combed, wearing the nice clothes he picked out. His face was set in a pout, glaring at Hitoshi. The purple-haired man smiled bashfully as he opened the door for him. “Ready?”
Denki crossed his arms and walked by, still pouting as they got to the elevator. When they stepped in Hitoshi motioned to the buttons, knowing Denki liked to push them. “Wanna hit the button?” he asked gently, trying so hard to turn this day around.
The blond glared silently before reaching out. Just as Hitoshi thought Denki was going to hit the “1” button, his hand smashed all 26 buttons of their apartment building. His mouth dropped open as Denki smirked in silent triumph, keeping his arms crossed, cocking a hip out in his revenge plan. The door shut and the elevator moved, stopping at floor 25 for a solid twenty seconds before closing, moving, and stopping at floor 24, opening slowly and waiting twenty seconds before going down to floor 23.
This dragged on as Hitoshi looked at his watch and then at the elevator numbers.
22……………
21……………
20……………
19……………
He made another strained sound from the back of his throat as Denki smirked at his own reflection in the elevator door.
By the time the door reached the ground floor, Hitoshi was clutching the ring box in hand. He resisted the urge to get down on one knee somewhere between the 13th and 11th floors and say ‘Fuck it—you did this’ and popping the question right there. But no, he loved Denki. He has been planning this for weeks. He refused to give up. This was going to be perfect and exactly what his love bug deserved.
They reached the first floor and stepped out. Denki gave a pressed smile knowing he was being a little fucker. Hitoshi cleared his throat and motioned with his arm for Denki to exit the building first. Once outside they started walking towards the cafe. About five minutes in, Denki started talking again. He could never stay mad or annoyed long with anyone. It was one of the many reasons Hitoshi loved him.
As Denki was talking about some new show he wanted to start watching, Hitoshi rehearsed the speech in his head for what he was going to say when the time came. He was so sucked into his thoughts it took a moment before he realized it was quiet and Denki was no longer next to him. He looked back to see him staring at a window display for a thrift store.
“TOSHI LOOK!” He pointed excitedly at the Beanie Baby tower on display, specifically the one at the top. “It looks like Spaghetti!”
Hitoshi walked back and looked up at the toy, seeing it did look like Eri’s cat. Before he could redirect him back to their destination Denki was walking in the door. “Let’s get it for her!”
Hitoshi made another strained sound in the back of his throat as he walked in behind him, “Denki we can get it on the way back.”
“No! What if someone buys it?” he pouted.
“It’s 2025. No one’s busting down the door for Beanie Babies, babe,” he said, squeezing the ring box in his pocket.
"Why are you in such a rush today, Toshi? All we're doing is going to a cafe. It's not like we have a reservation there."
"Actually, it's so popular that I did have to make a reservation," Hitoshi responded, quickly thinking, with frustration in his voice.
"Fine, but we're stopping here right after," Denki demanded.
"Deal," Hitoshi agreed. "Now let's please get going."
With Denki less distracted, they arrived at the cafe right on time. At least something went right today. Hitoshi held the door open for his boyfriend allowing him to enter first. "Toshi, why does this cafe look just like the one we had our first date at?"
"Hmm? Well that's interesting."
A woman at the counter greeted them. "Welcome to the Purr & Pour Cafe. Did you make a reservation?"
"Yeah, it's under Hitoshi Shinsou."
The greeter looked at her list. "Yep, there you are. Follow me."
She led them to a table near the window draped with a white table cloth and adorned with a small vase of purple and yellow flowers. "Huh. Tablecloth at a cat cafe? Seems like a disaster in the making," Denki commented. "Babe, why is this the only table with tablecloth?"
"Just sit down, please," Hitoshi groaned, rolling his eyes. His palms were growing sweaty.
The woman continued. "The cats will greet you when they are ready. Let them come to you and sniff you before you handle them. All of them are very people-friendly. I see that your order has been placed ahead of time. Your server will start bringing it out shortly."
"This is the strangest cafe I've ever been to. They let you preorder? What did you get me? Option 69?" Denki wiggled his eyebrows.
Hitoshi smiled with a small laugh. "You'd like that, wouldn't you?"
"Well, that or something really creamy," Denki answered, licking his lips slowly.
"I think you'll like what I chose," Hitoshi smirked.
Denki felt something rub against his leg and looked down. "Wait. I know this cat!" He bent down and picked up the ball of fur. "Hitoshi, why is Wattson here?" he asked, giving their cat nose rubs.
Hitoshi reached over, petting the back of their calico. "Now that is a conundrum, isn't it?"
Denki set their cat over his shoulder and glared at Hitoshi. "Toshi, what's going on here?"
A waiter arrived at their table before Hitoshi could answer. Denki looked up at the figure holding a silver cloche. "Tsuyu??? Why are you serving us?"
She placed the cloche on the table and lifted the lid. It was a headband from the calvary battle at their first year Sports Festival. Denki looked at it with wide eyes, and picked it up carefully. "This is from the Sports Festival during first year."
Hitoshi nodded and scratched the back of his neck. "Maybe not my finest moment at winning friendships, not that I was looking for them at that time. But it got me to the final round and noticed by Aizawa. It's what started my hero career."
Tsuyu cleared the table as another server approached. This time it was Jirou, who set down two drinks in front of them with attitude. Hitoshi's was plain black coffee, as usual. Denki had the tallest blended drink with extra whipped cream drizzled with caramel. "Extra creamy, just for you."
"Toshi! This is the drink I ordered on our first date! I can't believe you remembered!"
"You literally get it every time we go to any cafe. I can't believe you drink something that sickly sweet," he grumbled, sipping his own bitter brew.
Classmate after classmate came to the table, serving up memories from their past together. Bakugo with drumsticks and a video of their Cultural Festival performance, with Hitoshi (complete in gore makeup) watching off to the side. Tokoyami with a copy of the first horror movie Denki ever watched with Hitoshi. Kirishima with their graduation class rings. Todoroki with a photo from their first official day as professional heroes. Others brought foods that had special meaning from significant moments in their life together. Denki started to worry that he forgot about their anniversary when Hitoshi suddenly excused himself from the table. He headed to meet up with Sero in the back, handing the ring box to him with a warning. "Don't fuck this up." "
Wouldn't dream of it," Sero replied with his trademark grin.
Hitoshi returned to the table, and, just as he sat, their song started to play. Friends and family crowded into the cafe from who knows where and watched the couple. Sero came to the table with a smaller, silver cloche and set it down, pulling the top off and bowing while stepping back. There sat the Beanie Baby that reminded Denki of Spaghetti—the same one they saw earlier at the thrift store.
“All of this for a Beanie Baby? Tosh, I know you like to go all out, but this is—”
Hitoshi lifted the toy and set it aside. Underneath was a small, velvet box. Tears started to well in Denki’s eyes and as he pulled his hands over his mouth. Everything clicked at once. The insistence on the cafe. The (now that he realized what he had been wearing earlier) accidental spill that forced him to shower. The unusually stylish outfit that was picked out for him. The pressure to get to the cafe at a certain time. The fancy table, the presence of their cat, and the meal of memories.
His purple-haired boyfriend lifted the box and opened it with shaky hands. Inside sat a golden band with cut amethysts inlaid around the circumference. “Denki, from the moment we met during the joint training session first year, I knew there was something special about you. What I didn’t realize was how much I needed your sunshine in my life. I can’t imagine doing all that I’ve done without your support. And I can’t imagine anyone filling my heart as much as you do. You’ve been by my side during my worst moments and have transformed them into my best. Denki Kaminari, would you do me the honor of being my husband?”
Now, Denki was an emotional man. But nothing could prepare him for this moment and tears flooded down his cheeks. “Fuck, I didn’t want to ugly cry.”
Hitoshi raised an eyebrow, waiting for an answer.
“Yes! Yes, Toshi! Of course!” he cried with the biggest smile plastered across his face. “Fuck, someone better be recording this!”
“Oh we are,” Sero laughed. “Ugly tears and all!” The crowd around them cheered.
“Shit! Put it on! Put it on!” he demanded excitedly, holding out his hand. Hitoshi slipped the ring on with ease. “Oh my god. It’s perfect! This was perfect! You’re perfect! Fuck! Come here and kiss me already!”
Hitoshi, laughing, but with a few tears of his own, hurried to Denki’s side and drew him into a kiss, messy from all their tears and smiles.

Hours pass and they finally head home after celebrating with their loved ones. Now it was their time to celebrate alone.
The front doors of the apartment building slid open, and Denki practically plastered himself to Hitoshi’s side the moment they stepped inside the lobby. He was looking at his ring in admiration. “I’m glad it worked out,” Hitoshi murmured, smirking as he looped an arm around Denki’s waist. “You know, with my totally reasonable rushing you around today.”
Denki gasped dramatically. “Reasonable? Babe, I had to take a cold shower! Ugh! I was so pissed at you.”
Hitoshi raised an eyebrow. “You survived, and got me back with that elevator stunt.”
“You survived,” Denki shot back, then tugged him into the elevator. The doors slid closed, and Denki immediately pressed Hitoshi back against the wall, fingers curling in his shirt. “But now that I know what you were rushing for—” his voice dropped into a teasing purr “—I cannot wait to ravish you the second we get inside our apartment.”
Hitoshi’s ears turned pink. “Ravish, huh?”
“Oh yeah,” Denki said, already kissing along his jaw. “Hope you stretched because I’m gonna wear you out, fiancé.”
Hitoshi snorted, his bashful face turning to a smirk as he reached for the buttons on the elevator wall by them and with a look at Denki, he slowly slid his hand down all the buttons. Floors 1 through 26 lit up like a Christmas tree. Denki froze against him, mouth open in shock. “No! What are you doing? HITOSHI!”
Hitoshi leaned in, all smug, and kissed him slowly and passionately enough to make Denki’s knees wobble. When Hitoshi finally pulled back, he whispered, “Suffer.”
Denki’s eyes were wide as he stayed up against his man. Hitoshi stuck his tongue out, pretending to be innocent as the elevator jerked to a stop at floor 2. “Actions have consequences,” he said, kissing Denki again between floors.
Denki groaned dramatically, but his arms tightened around Hitoshi’s neck. “You know this only makes me want to ravish you more, right?”

They finally reached their apartment on the 26th floor. Hitoshi, taking off his shoes, muses, "You know, you almost didn't get proposed to."
"What?" Denki replied incredulously.
"Oh yes. Your little wish for a trip to the zoo? Good thing you didn't insist more."
Denki opened his mouth in shock. "That's why you were so insistent on the cafe! It was your plan all along."
They walked towards the kitchen, to get some water. "And your little stunt with the elevator? You were lucky I prepared the schedule to be long and have time to reach the cafe. Oh! And your outfit! You were going to wear that to your proposal."
"You fake tripped on the floor! I HAD TO TAKE A COLD SHOWER!"
"That's what you get for deciding to go out to the world in those clothes."
“Well, now that we’re in for the night, I can decide to wear whatever. I. want.” He emphasized the last three words by walking his fingers up Hitoshi’s chest. Hitoshi smirked as he watched the love of his life—now his now fiance—disappear into their bedroom.
“Oh, I’m counting on it,” Hitoshi replied, ready for the ravishing.

Later that evening...
Hitoshi was on the brink of drifting off to sleep, holding his fiancé in his arms after a stressful day and kinky night, when Denki suddenly jolted up. "Toshi! You promised me a Peach Ring flavored drink!"
"Go to sleep, Denki. It was a ruse."
"You still owe me a peach flavored drink," he pouted, tucking himself back into Hitoshi's arms.
"I'll get you a whole case in the morning if you just let me rest," Hitoshi yawned.
Yup. Chaos was forever in his future.
