Work Text:

Galinda was getting married. Married. She could hardly believe it was real, everything had seemed so trivial up until now. She was going to be married to Fiyero.

… Galinda smoothed out her dress, and looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was perfectly done, her dress was perfectly asymmetrical on one side, and she was perfectly ready to flip to the next chapter of her life.

She keeped that pesky feeling buried down within her as it tried to rear her head. As long as she could keep her feelings at bay, there was no source of anything that could ruin her wedding.

The glass of her window cracked behind her and Galinda's heart sank. She knew before even turning around that she would come here to settle things between the two of them.

What was there to say, to explain, that Elphaba wouldn't already know?

"You can come inside," said Galinda, turning around. The chilly night air brought a breeze to her arms, forcing a shivver. Galinda grabbed both sides of her arms and rubbed them. Was Elphaba just being stubborn? She stepped closer to the door, opening it so she could check outside. A small, very tiny part of her expected there to be no one on the balcony. Expected that her window had just broken, and she wanted Elphaba to be here so badly that she was piecing everything together so they'd add up that way.

Much to her relief, Elphaba was there. Galinda's face softened.

"Oh Elphie, it's been so long since I've seen you- I'm glad you're okay!" Galinda exclaimed. She grabbed Elphaba by the hand. "Come inside, please! Before the monkeys see you."

Elphaba was silent for a moment, but complied with Galinda's request. Galinda could sense some reservation in her. She could always read Elphaba's expressions, probably more than Elphaba was comfortable with. Inside her eyes this time was a sense of determination, but also a dash of jealousy and regret.

"I'm going to see the wizard." Elphaba's eyes darted away, finding their place across the room in a darker corner. She pulled her hand out of Galinda's, keeping it to herself.

This was the determination. Elphaba had come here for one purpose- to free the monkeys the wizard was holding captive.

But then why had she stopped by on Galinda's wedding night of all times?

Galinda put her hands on her hips. Elphaba had shouldered so much responsibility in the past year, all while Galinda had been stuck as a figurehead.

… Stuck definitely wasn't the right word to describe it. She had her place, the people of Oz needed a figurehead to raise their spirits.

Yet there was one spirit she couldn't raise. Galinda grabbed Elphaba by the hand again.

"I'm coming with you!" said Galinda. "We can make things right, together-"

"No. You have your place. You're the figurehead of Oz, you're Glinda, you're Fiyero's wife-"

The last string of words really cut deep into Galinda. Her cheeks flushed red.

What was wrong with being married to Fiyero? The two of them had known each other for a while, and had similar goals.

Perhaps this is where the jealousy played in.

"I'm not his wife yet. I'm just Galinda," said Galinda, flipping some of her hair over her shoulder. Elphaba raised an eyebrow.

"Really?" she said, with an almost sarcastic inflection. She took a step closer to Galinda. Galinda took a step back, almost falling against the bed behind her.

She wasn't afraid of Elphaba; to say that would be a betrayal. There was fear, but it was coming from within. Galinda had pushed back these feelings a year ago, and Elphaba was doing everything in her power to draw them out again.

What was the purpose? She knew Galinda couldn't be with her. She was getting married soon, and that was final.

…She wasn't married yet.

"Why did you stop by today of all days- you could have shown up at any time, but you didn't."

Galinda's voice had a quiver to it. Elphaba clenched her jaw slightly.

"I already told you, I want to see the wizard-"

Galinda rolled her eyes.

"You didn't have to come tonight. Why?"

Galinda's voice was more forceful this time.

"Why, Elphie, tell me why?"

Elphaba tried to turn around and walk away, Galinda's hand still on her wrist.

Galinda had a choice. She could let go, or she could pull her back.

Galinda yanked Elphaba's wrist so hard they both tumbled onto Galinda's bed. Galinda lay on her back, looking up at Elphaba with wide eyes. Elphaba was practically straddling her, using her arms to prop herself up so she didn't fall on Galinda. Her braided hair fell to the sides as she looked down at Galinda. Galinda pushed some back and tucked it behind her ears.

"Why did you visit me on my wedding night?"

Elphaba was speechless for a clock-tick. Galinda wasn't sure she would respond. Her heart sank. None of this meant anything if Elphaba couldn't be open with her feelings. The marriage would go through, and with it, the unresolved tension between them would be locked away.

"Because I just couldn't stay away," said Elphaba. This, Galinda decided, was the regret she had seen earlier. Elphaba leaned in and kissed her. Galinda wrapped her hands around her to pull her tighter.

This wasn't like her kisses with Fiyero; there was no audience to please with a chaste yet cute kiss. There was no one to please, except the beautiful woman who was in bed with her.

They pulled out of the kiss. Elphaba looked more surprised than Galinda expected. They didn't say another word before connecting lips again.

They would only share this night together. Galinda knew it, even if she wanted to believe so badly it wouldn't be true. She kissed her like she wished she could have a year ago, and she kissed her like she wished she would be able to a year from now.

Elphaba's nails raked up Galinda's leg, sending a shiver down her spine.

"Elphie…" whimpered Galinda as Elphaba's hand went under her dress. "I'm about to be married."

It slipped out even though she hadn't meant it to. As a coping mechanism, perhaps.

Truth be told, Galinda was a little scared. Everything was moving so fast, and they had so little time. If she pushed Elphaba away, she knew she would never be able to quell these feelings. All of the toxic 'what if's' would gnarl and twist within her until she was all but consumed by them.

She wanted this. She just wished it wasn't so painful to want things.

"You said it yourself, you aren't married yet," said Elphaba. She started to take her hand away. "Or would you like me to leave?"

Galinda sat up a little to reach down and grab Elphaba's hand, leading her between her thighs. She lay back down, cheeks flushed as she looked at Elphaba expectantly.

"Please, Elphie."

Elphaba wasted no time. She slipped her hand underneath Galinda's soft panties. Her nails were cold and hard; Galinda knew that Elphaba hadn't expected things to go this far. Elphaba touched her gently with the pad of her finger, applying pressure in a circular fashion. Galinda squirmed and whimpered.

"You're cute when you can't talk," said Elphaba, before kissing her again. There were so many layers between them, with Galinda's puffy wedding dress creating the biggest.

Galinda rolled her head to the side, bringing her hand up to hold in a moan as Elphaba took her clit between the sides of two of her fingers, squeezing, teasing, and rubbing them together. She was being so gentle yet so deliberate.

"I… can…. mmmfff!"

Galinda tried to talk again, but was silenced by another kiss. Elphaba had picked up the pace, rubbing her clit in all the right ways that made Galinda melt. She could hardly think, the only thing on her mind was how badly she wanted Elphie right now.

Everything felt so much better when Elphaba did it; Galinda had tried to touch herself after Elphaba left, but had mostly just gotten frustrated, feeling like it just wasn't meant to be.

She knew it absolutely was meant to be right now.

Elphaba tossed the fluff of Galinda's dress up and climbed underneath.

Elphaba tongued her entrance, feeling Galinda's legs twitch and squeeze against the side of her head before she took her clit in her mouth. She sucked slightly, then teased her with her tongue, touching the tip, then the sides, back and forth.

Galinda couldn't reach Elphaba through the dress that separated them. Instead, she grabbed onto the bed beneath her and gripped tightly.

"Elphie…" Galinda whined. "Oh Elphie…"

Galinda felt a wave of pleasure wash over her as she climaxxed, chest rising and falling with every breath. She felt tired, so tired…

… Galinda came to in her room. Her dress was still fluffed and frazzled. The room felt cold.

Had she really fallen asleep right after sex?! Her cheeks flushed an embarrassing shade of red. She looked around the room for Elphaba, half expecting to wake up next to her. But Elphaba was nowhere to be seen. Galinda sat up.

"Elphie?" Galinda called out. But she knew the truth. The door to her balcony was swinging open, as if to beckon either to close it, or join her.

She stood up, and smoothed her dress oout. It was still crinkled, but it would do. Her hair was frazzled. Galinda threw it into an updo.

How dare Elphaba go see the wizard without her! Had this just been a distraction?

Galinda tried not to let the truth get to her. Elphaba had her reasons for everything, even if Galinda didn't understand them all the time.

But she trusted Elphaba.

So she ran out to see the wizard.
