Work Text:
I’m going to regret this…
Indah struggles to smother that thought as she ticks down the boxes of the employment agreement, filling in the feed signature blanks and jotting down the necessary notes in the reporting sections. It’s less that she’s going to regret the action—she knows the action is correct—and more that she’s dreading the uphill battle ahead. She knows there will be protests from certain loud factions. She knows there will be pressure and (warranted) scrutiny from the factions that oppose those factions. She knows that there will be growing pains with integrating their new arrival. She knows that the usual training headaches will be a dozen times more intense by virtue of trying to train someone who is arguably more qualified than anyone else on the force, if not as familiar with their procedures.
And despite all of that…it's necessary. It’s important. It’s a step forward, not just for StationSec, but for the future that Preservation is embracing, one rogue Secunit at a time. This particular unit has been on Preservation for over a year now. It’s ready and willing and even eager to contribute to a place it is learning to love. And if StationSec is how it has chosen to do that, Indah isn’t going to stand in its way. A handful of years earlier, her approval might’ve been harder to come by, but she knows better than that now. She has learned. The rest of Preservation will, too, in time.
She finishes the last of the signatures and files the application for Station Council Expenditures approval. With luck, Officer Reverie will begin patrol training as the first Secunit member of the force by the next cycle. Without luck, well…Indah still has Pin Lee’s contact information.
She will not regret this.
