Summary
Planets are dumb and dangerous, but at this point I'd argued— okay, more like complained— complargued so many times that nobody except ART was still willing to argufy back.
(That stands for argue-pacify, in case it isn't obvious. I think it's not obvious. And no, I hadn't forgiven ART yet for saying I needed pacifying.)
Anyway, I was currently complarguing from my seat in the back of the snow-capable bot-driven transport heading out to the middle of nowhere, so I had the sneaking suspicion I'd lost the fight.
Murderbot accompanies its humans on a winter vacation. Then the storm hits.

I thought the survey had been going pretty well, with a total lack of hostile fauna, flora, corporates, or alien remnants, until the morning everybody woke up to find an unidentified silicone-polymer object sitting on the table in the middle of the habitat lounge. Now my humans were all standing around it, trying to decide whose sex object this was.
Sometimes I hate myself for starting to get optimistic.

This is what happened:
1. Tarik and I engaged in a series of sensory data-gathering experiments.
2. In the course of these experiments, Tarik frequently experienced moments of anxiety, panic, and terror. These were not, as I initially thought, random. They were triggered by me.
2.a. Correction: They were triggered by the fact that I remind Tarik of a) other SecUnits, b) other people, c) other situations that he finds distressing.
3. Tarik, Perihelion and/or I engaged in a series of discussions. None of us really liked my initial suggestion that I should not be around Tarik ever again.
4. Tarik asked me to pretend to fire my guns at him.

Summary
"I am curious to know if you smell good," Three had said, interrupting Perihelion's much snottier explanation of the same thing. "Or. If the way you smell is good to me."
It was different, coming from Three. It reminded Tarik a little of the way he himself had first approached life on New Tideland: the overwhelmed envy, the stunned wonder, the stifled little voice always going, Is that as nice as it looks?
"Okay," he'd said, nonplussed, and handed over his sweaty shirt, only to belatedly ask, "Is this a sex thing?"
Three and ART have a strange request, for experimental reasons. Tarik thinks why not, it can't get much weirder than that.
Then it gets a lot weirder. Tarik has about fifteen reactions to that, several of them horny.

When Murderbot gets (almost) fatally injured during a routine mission it has to deal with the emotional fallout from itself, all of its humans, one paranoid machine intelligence with enough power to make sure it never goes anywhere again, and the damage it does to one interpersonal relationship. Ugh, so many emotions.

It sits bolt upright, and a wave of fear ripples off of it like a [cloud of micro-debris], or like an [emergency evasive maneuver that grinds a planet’s upper atmosphere]. It’s unpleasant. It’s unfamiliar. I capture the data, store it, and start chewing on it immediately.
