Work Text:

While Elphaba would usually be on her way to the library at this time, she decides to just head back to the dorm and relax. She was not only caught up, but ahead in all of her classes, and with her and Galinda now getting along, she has no reason to hide out there. Elphaba didn’t think to inform her roommate of the change in schedule.

She pushes the door open and Galinda doesn’t seem to hear her come in. She’s sitting at her desk and appears to be studying. Not wanting to startle the girl, she attempts to shut the door quietly, but as soon as it clicks shut, she sees Galinda jump. The girl’s hands move up to her face in a blur then she whips her head around with the same speed. Elphaba would be surprised she didn’t pull something, but she supposes the blonde’s neck muscles must be strengthened from all the toss-tossing.

“Hi, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” Elphaba says a little awkwardly, giving Galinda a once over trying to decide why the girl looks so on edge.

“No no, it’s fine! You’re just n-not usually here at this time,” Galinda attempts a reassuring smile, her eyes dart around the room nervously, and she is trying her absolute best to sound unbothered.

“I know, but now that I don’t have a bubbly pink menace to avoid, I thought I’d be safe here,” Elphaba teases in an attempt to ease some of the tension.

Galinda forces out a laugh that’s much too loud and fumbles with something behind her back. Whatever it is, it hits the floor with a little clatter and Elphaba’s eyes drop down at the noise. She squints at the object before looking back up to Galinda, who looks like her anxiety has been turned up until the knob broke off. Elphaba’s eyebrows furrow as she tries to get another look at what Galinda dropped. The blonde tumbles out of her chair and attempts to snatch the item before Elphie can get a good look. Unfortunately for Galinda, she ends up swatting it across the floor in her flurry of panic. The object slides and stops right in front of the green girl, as if she summoned it herself.

Elphaba looks down and her eyebrows raise, “Galinda…are those glasses?”

The blonde lets out something between a groan and a squeak. “Elphaba Thropp, you tell no one about what you saw here, got it?” Galinda demands, attempting to be threatening. It probably would’ve been more effective if she hadn’t been scrambling towards her to retrieve the offending item.

Elphaba can’t help the chuckle that escapes her lips, “Calm down, they’re just glasses.”

“Calm down? Just glasses?” Galinda is becoming hysterical. “Are you insane?! No one can find out about this, Elphie. I mean it, I’ll know it was you! No one else knows,” the blonde points her finger in a way that is almost intimidating.

“Okay, I’m confused. What’s the big deal?” Elphaba asks sincerely.

“The ‘big deal’ is, pretty girls don’t wear glasses,” Galinda says like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

“Wow, thanks,” Elphie deadpans as she adjusts her own glasses on her nose.

“No, I mean you can’t wear glasses when you’re just a pretty girl. Of course you are pretty, but you’re also the smartest person I know. The glasses work for you,” Galinda explains, again, like it’s common knowledge.

Elphaba intentionally ignores the compliments, although her cheeks do feel a bit warmer, and focuses on the first part of what Galinda said. “Is that what you think? That you are just a pretty girl,” she asks seriously.

Galinda blinks, “I mean, yeah? Doesn’t everybody?”

“I don’t,” the blonde scoffs at Elphie’s answer and looks away like she doesn’t believe her, so she keeps talking.

“You’re not just pretty, I mean you are beautiful, no one can deny that,” she shoots Galinda a smile and is glad when she receives a shy one back in return. “But you’re also one of the most determined people I know. While I’m glad we no longer loathe each other, I was quite impressed by your commitment. I thought you would get bored eventually and just start ignoring me, but you always gave back just as strong as you got. And at the Ozdust, when you decided to dance with me? You were brave, even when your friends told you to stop, you kept going. You knew that there could be consequences, but you held your head up high and stood by my side anyway. You got into Morrible’s sorcery seminar, even though you clearly aren’t her favorite student-“

“That was more you than me,” Galinda mutters, but Elphie can see her fighting to hold back a smile.

“The point is,” Elphaba shoots her a look and reaches out for her hand, “you go for what you want, and you don’t stop until you get it.”

Galinda looks so genuinely appreciative when she says, “Thank you, Elphie.”

Elphaba puffs out her chest a bit, proud to have helped her friend, “You’re welcome, now give me those.”

“Oh, I don’t think-“

Elphaba raises a brow and Galinda groans but still drops the glasses in her hand with a huff. Elphie is finally able to inspect her roommate’s oh so secret glasses. They are cat eye frames, soft yet sharp, feminine but not dainty. They are exactly the kind of glasses you’d expect for the girl, the only part that surprises her is the color. Black. She’s never seen the girl wear anything this dark, and her first thought is that she really wants to see Galinda wearing them, now preferably.

“Come here,” Elphaba pulls her just a little closer, “You, Galinda Upland, are not just anything. You are so many things, my sweet, but do you know what thing you are that matters the most right now?”

“What?”

Farsighted,” she quips and Galinda lets out a little giggle at that as Elphaba slides the glasses into place.

As soon as she does, a blush takes over both of their faces. Galinda has never seen Elphaba this clearly, never been able to see the freckles splattered across her cheeks and nose. Never seen how many different shades of green are in her eyes. And Elphaba, well, she might just be a sucker for pretty blondes in glasses.

“Wow,” they say at the same time, making both of their cheeks darken even more. They turn a bit sheepish and try to look away, but their eyes can’t help drifting back to each other.

“I-I don’t know why you don’t w-wear these more o-often, you look r-really nice,” Elphaba stammers out and attempts to avert her gaze again, but is stopped by Galinda’s hand on her chin.

“Please don’t run away again…but you look even more beautiful when you’re not so blurry,” Galinda breathes out, ending in a soft laugh. She’s unable to stop herself from moving her hand up to trace along a few of the newly discovered freckles.

Elphaba unconsciously leans into the touch, and because her gaze is focused on the girl’s “new” accessory, she catches Galinda’s eyes go from following the path of her own fingers to dropping down to Elphie’s mouth.

The blonde watches those green lips part in a gasp and she knows she’s been caught. When Galinda reluctantly drags her eyes back to Elphaba’s, however, she notices that her roommate is now looking at her lips. The blonde grins and her tongue darts out to wet her mouth and she traps her bottom lip between her teeth. Galinda bets her own eyes fill with desire as she watches Elphie’s pupils dilate while she is locked in on her pink glittering lips.

They both step even closer, their entire fronts now flush against each other. Galinda’s hand drifts from Elphaba’s cheek, brushes back a few braids, and settles on her neck. Elphie’s hands move up to hold the blonde’s waist, with the slightest tug that presses them even tighter together. The movement causes Galinda’s unoccupied hand to come up and rest on Elphaba’s arm. She can’t help but to lightly squeeze the muscles she feels there.

“I-I’m not going anywhere,” Elphie says, trying to sound confident, but quickly adds, “unless you want me to.”

“I like you right where you are,” Galinda smiles, “well maybe just a bit closer.” The hand on Elphaba’s neck pulls their faces together and finally their lips meet.

The contact is short at first with a few pecks that keep breaking apart from their wide smiles that they can’t hold back. They pull away a little to look into each other’s eyes and giggle at their own enthusiasm, still holding each other close. Every kiss lasting longer and longer each time they come back together, and soon their mouths start moving with even more passion.

Suddenly, Elphaba’s back hits something, and she realizes that Galinda has walked them over to the door. The blonde presses her against it and their hands begin traveling around the other’s body as things become more heated. A few sighs and soft breaths escape as they continue to explore, but they both let out a moan as their tongues brush together for the first time. The noise only spurs them on as their touches turn bolder, no longer caressing, but grabbing and tugging like they long to be even closer.

Galinda lets out a surprised gasp, when Elphaba flips their positions and she is now the one being held against the door. The gasp turns into another moan as Elphie starts kissing down her neck. Galinda goes to toss her head back to give her more room, but ends up knocking it against the wood with a loud thud. “Ow,” Galinda mutters, but then whines a little when she feels Elphaba’s lips part from her skin.

Elphie searches Galinda’s eyes with a worried expression as she asks, “Are you alright, my sweet?” Her hands are in the blonde curls, gently moving along the crown of her head in an attempt to soothe the pain and feel for a lump.

Galinda’s glasses are slightly askew, and Elphaba can’t help but be endeared by the way she shyly pushes the frames back into place. Her cheeks are flushed, either from the kissing or the embarrassment, but most likely a bit of both. “I’m okay,” Galinda responds with the cutest little upturn of her lips. Lips that look thoroughly kissed, by the way, which causes Elphie to lean back in for a quick peck.

“Good,” Elphaba grins, still rubbing the girl’s head, her long nails just barely scraping along her scalp, “I’d prefer it if you weren’t concussed.”

Galinda laughs at that, but her expression turns just a little mischievous. “Hey, maybe I am. I think we should lay down just to be safe,” she says waggling her eyebrows suggestively.

Elphaba rolls her eyes at her silliness, but starts moving backwards, tugging the blonde from the door and moving over to the big pink bed. Elphie lays on her back and, as she sees the blonde move to take off her glasses, she interrupts, “Wait…you could uh keep them on…if you’d like.” Her cheeks heat up, but she doesn’t really care as she sees that Galinda flushes pink as well. She ducks her head a little shyly and leaves the frames where they are. She then climbs on top of Elphaba to partake in activities that would be rather unwise if she really had sustained a head injury.

After that day, Galinda still never wears her glasses in public, but she does begin wearing them while in the privacy of their dorm. As Elphaba watches the blonde adorably scrunch her nose to right the frames, she thinks about how she would love to see her in them more often. That thought is quickly followed by the fact that she really doesn’t hate the idea that she, of all people, gets to be the only one to see her girlfriend like this.

Notes:
