“This will be your first time on New Tidelands right?” Ratthi asked as he walked next to Three. He was nearly vibrating with excitement.
“Yes. I am looking forward to seeing a ‘the beach’.” Three replied. Iris had been talking about ‘the beach’ all week and had gotten most of the team excited for it.
“Just beach Three,” Iris gently corrected before turning back to her conversation with Karime and Kaede.
“Oh I love a beach,” Ratthi said with a faraway look on his face. “Did you bring your swim trunks Tarik?” Ratthi elbowed the man to his other side.
“No swim trunks,” Tarik said. Ratthi frowned slightly. “Just briefs.” Ratthi’s head snapped to Tarik to see his cheeky smile.
“Here we are everyone!” Martyn cried out from the front of the group. They had arrived at a beautiful cottage overlooking a pristine white sand beach. The team walked down to a stone patio with a couple of grills and chairs arranged around a long communal table. Three could see a variety of dishes had already been prepared and laid out along with some beverages.
“This is heaven, like always,” Matteo sighed as they sunk into one of the plush patio chairs. “Thank you Martyn, Seth, and Iris for hosting us.” Their eyes slipped closed.
“I didn’t do anything,” Iris laughed, “This was all Dad and Dad!” She smiled at her fathers.
“Thank you all for allowing me to come along!” Ratthi chirped as he walked around the table looking at everything. “What’s this?” he asked, pointing to a bowl filled to the brim with a dark red, oily liquid sitting on top of it. There were chopped and sliced vegetables floating inside.
“Oh that’s pepper soup!” Iris explained. She grabbed a small bowl and added some soup into it, handing it to Ratthi. “Try some! It’s my favorite.” Ratthi took the bowl gently, giving it a small sniff.
“Smells great." He said. "Smells spicy.”
“Haha yes! I hope you like it hot.” Iris said with a smile.
“I’m going to regret this later,” Ratthi said as he tipped the bowl back and drank some of the soup. He paused for a moment, then went back for more. “This is so good! I haven’t had spice like this since I left home.”
“Dr. Ratthi, your vital signs are becoming elevated.” Three spoke up, startling everyone a bit. “You should sit down.”
“Thank you, but I’m okay Three. This is just what happens when humans have spicy things.” Ratthi replied. Sweat had started to break out on his brow and his skin was looking flush.
“You knew this happen?” Three questioned. It really didn’t understand humans. Ratthi had continued drinking the soup and his hear rate had climbed to over 100bpm. He finished the bowl and set it back on the table, swaying slightly.
“Worth it!”
