Lit by the intermittent overhead flashes of lightning, the combat selkie came towards me. Each step of its boots against the sodden wood of the docks rang out with a forbidding note of magic, a crackling cold heartbeat, the high musical chatter of shattering ice. The sea-water splashed up and across its feet in time to the beat. In each hand it carried a gleaming saber, crescent blades glowing like the moon on a clear night.
It looked perfectly human of course, if you didn’t look it in the eyes.

Your body may be in the beginning stages metamorphosis.”
This was so gob smackingly absurd that I was speechless for an entire 10 seconds.
I said, “My body already reached its imago form.”
