Chapter Text

Hi folks!

Like many of you, I’ve fallen down the Heated Rivalry rabbit hole and have been consuming boatloads of fanfic in between the weekly episode drops. While reading, I’ve seen a lot of authors using Google Translate or other online resources to incorporate Russian into their work — this is great! However, a lot of the nuances of language are lost on Google Translate, leaving translations (especially one- to two-word phrases) incomplete. That’s where this guide comes in.

A bit about me: I am not a native Russian speaker, but I have been studying the language for six years. I am currently in my final year of an undergraduate degree in Russian, and I have spent extended time living and studying in Russian-speaking countries. On the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), my Russian is at C1, or advanced. Though I do not have the intimate knowledge of the language that a native speaker might, I am reasonably qualified to give advice on using Russian in fics.

I have a few ideas for chapters in this guide based on what I’ve seen so far, but most of all, I want to create something that is useful for writers. If you have a topic you’d like to see me cover, please leave it in the comments. I hope to add a chapter or two in the coming days!
