“Link, you simply must try it!” Zelda says as she enthusiastically holds up what Link has decidedly dubbed, The Demon Smoothie. Even in the rifts, the smell of it managed to reach his nose, mixing together in all the worst ways, and he’s reminded of just how horribly it made his stomach curdle the first time she tried it.
Brow furrowed, he shakes his head, pushing the jar back into her hands.
“Oh, it's delicious! I promise!”
It's not, Link laughs, shaking his head again. He’s not sure how a princess like her ended up with the tastes of a boarblin but, somehow, here she is. And she doesn't even realize!
“Well, alright then,” Zelda sighs, drooping a little as she returns the jar to the table.
Link places a hand on hers, offering an apologetic smile. Her features soften, and a smile tugs at her lips as she gives Link’s hand a light squeeze. “No, I'm the one who forgot. Should we try making another?”
Eagerly, Link nods, leaning in close to examine the remaining ingredients. After a moment, he points to the grapes, the cactus, and the bubble kelp.
“Interesting choices,” Zelda hums as she gathers them all up from the table. “A fruity one with… well, I guess we’ll just have to see what happens!”
Her recipe book doesn’t appear to have anything for this specific combination, but Link does notice after the fact that a lot of the recipes involving kelp have been furiously scribbled out. Some even have small, disgusted faces etched into the margins. When he glances up to watch Zelda toss the items into the bowl, her nose scrunches up in similar fashion as she tosses the kelp in with the rest.
Uh oh.
Link silently panics as she takes her time mixing everything together. It unfortunately (predictably) doesn't look appealing in the slightest. When it's finished, Zelda hesitates before bringing the concoction up to her nose.
“Oh." She makes a face, quickly extending it as far away from her as possible. "Well... it's chunky, and it smells a bit weird? But I guess it's technically still a smoothie."
Link thinks it more closely resembles a goo specter.
Just to be sure, he takes the jar from her hands. After sniffing it himself, and despite Zelda's many protests, he takes a sip.
Oh.
He takes another.
It’s surprisingly good. Maybe the best smoothie he's ever had. Eyes wide, Zelda stares back at him in amazement.
“...You’re drinking it.”
Link nods, offering her the jar.
“Oh… no, that’s okay.”
He nods again, more encouragingly. Please try it.
“No, I really don’t think–”
Link's pleads back at her with his eyes. He knows she’ll like it. If she liked that, this is sure to be better.
“Ahh, okay, okay!” Zelda finally gives in, squeezing her eyes shut as she leans forward and takes the straw into her mouth. She takes a much bigger sip than Link expected, throat bobbing dramatically as she forces it down, and then–
“Oh!” Her eyes blink open in surprise. “That’s not bad at all, is it?”
Link smiles and shakes his head. Zelda hums happily, taking another sip. Her cheeks are flushed and pink, and a nice fluttery feeling settles in Link’s stomach when he sees how much she's enjoying it. He hopes the feeling isn’t because of the smoothie.
“That is so good.” Zelda finally leans back with a content smile. There’s very little left in the jar, Link realizes, though it's hard to be disappointed with how happy she looks. Still, he glances up at her and raises an eyebrow.
“Oh, I didn’t leave any for you!” she gasps, immediately fretting about the room for more ingredients. Of course, there's no remaining bubble kelp to be found, and when she pulls her head from a cupboard, hands empty, face immeasurably distressed, Link can't help but laugh.
He is so very fond of her.
Gathering up his sword, he gestures to the door.
Shall we go get some more?
