"Of all the places," Alastor mutters through gritted teeth.
He is not sentimental. He has never been. Nostalgia is a weakness reserved for lesser minds, for those who believe the past holds them rather than the other way around.
Yet, his smile tightens.
Annoyance flares honed and immediate, curling hot in his chest. Vox's face rises uninvited in his mind. Grinning screen, static laughter, hands too careful, attention too constant. The memory of wires and strings follows close behind, of being maneuvered, shocked and jerked around, in a way he hadn't agreed on.
Infuriating.
And it's outrageously uncomfortable too, the sudden awareness of something old stirring where it should have stayed buried.
Or: Alastor is free, Vox is angry, humiliated, and somehow still breathing. They are, apparently, done with each other for good, but a bar, a piano, and far too much history stand in the way. The past, unfortunately, still has excellent timing.

OMAHGAWSH???????? Habropathia made this fic and i just have to say...OMGOMG THIS IS PROB THE BEST INTERPRETATION OF THE CANON RELANTIONSHIP BETWEEN AL AND VOX IVE EVER SEEN?? i feel like we're not talking about vox enough - HE WAS A CULT LEADER AND STILL MANAGED TO BE SO ADORABLE???? and how he still remembers the notes, ALSOALSO THIS IS BASED OF THAT ONE CARD AMIR COMMISIONED RIGHT?? i love the detail of them practicing stayed gone, the song he uses AGAINST ALASTOR. i could go on about this fic being so rich with subtle details i wouldve missed in the actual show, but this is a summary - not my english essay lol, so i wont bore. READ IT THOUGH, ITS AMAZING AND DESERVES ALL THE RECOGNITION.

ohmy god this is so beautiful ph my godddpdhkphy god oh my god they care about each other so much underneath all the years of habitual bitterness and tragedy i LOVE THEM!! i love how alastor is narratively kind of unreliable about his own feelings and lies to himself like crazy. and is so stunlocked by how earnest vox is here. AHGH!!!!
