Summary
When a packed intercity train leaves only one empty seat beside the famously cold and untouchable musical producer Beatrice Young, chaotic aspiring actress Ava Silva squeezes in without a second thought. What begins as a tense, awkward ride, full of bumped elbows, flying backpacks, and Ava's relentless sunshine, slowly cracks through Beatrice's immaculate composure. Beatrice intends to ignore her seatmate, but Ava's humming, kindness, and unfiltered warmth tug at something Beatrice has kept locked away for years.
But how will they work together if they absolutely have to?-

The thought of losing Ava crossed Beatrice’s mind numerous times, but she vowed to make sure that wouldn’t happen. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to stop the inevitable. Ava told her to live her life, but it’s not easy when the person you envisioned living life with is no longer there.

Summary
Ava refused every attempt that Beatrice made to push her away, working her way into the smaller moments until it was impossible to imagine them without her, and Beatrice knew what it was. It was love. Whether she wanted to admit it to herself was an entirely different discussion.
Of course, Ava wanted to talk about it. She talks about love like Beatrice talks about perfect football weather – soccer weather is what most of her American friends call it, and when Beatrice isn’t thinking, sometimes she calls it that, now, too. Ava talks about love like that: like she isn’t thinking, really. She talks about love like she’s telling Bea what she wants for dinner.
(Or, the one with the secret relationship and their teams are rivals, Beatrice finding herself, and Ava loving her through it all.)

Summary
“The church was… the only path before me, at the time, and I never questioned it," Beatrice admits.
“And now?” he asks, looking concerned, and Bea realizes she’s curled into herself against the counter. She didn’t even notice how small she’d become. He offers her the sugar. She takes it.
“Now, I think differently,” Beatrice says, rising to her full height, rolling her shoulders back. Now, the future is an open road, and she’s got her hands at ten and two and her foot on the gas.
Now, she sees how wrong it was: to be pushed into giving up her life as if it would mean she would no longer ache to live it, as if that could ever be possible. Now, she is learning how to choose herself. Sometimes when you’ve suffered a whole lot, it’s hard to stop, but she’s trying. She takes a sip of her tea, savoring the sweetness on her tongue.
“What about God?”
“What about Him?” Beatrice answers, trying to sound sure of herself. “I'm– I'm fairly confident that He still loves me.”
(Or, post-canon Beatrice, learning how to love herself while she waits for Ava to come back.)

Camila furrowed her brows. “For now, we have figured out that after I pray my connection with her is stronger than usual. And, most importantly, if I try hard enough to ignore Ava’s voice, it loses power and disappears.”
“So, you’re telling me that if you say I do believe in Ava Silva, I do, I do, she’s going to sound stronger?"

Summary
"If there is a Valhalla for superhuman sleuths and their all-to-human compatriots, it will allow them freedom at night to catch the racing hansom cab in the mustard fog and provide them a cozy cluttered place by day to feast upon cold pheasant and tales from the tin box. If the detective should suffer overmuch from the artistic temperament, and his fellow lodger should dwell overlong on the fairness of a wrist . . . so much the better, for us and them."

Summary
“I was told I would be able to meet with the chef this afternoon,” Beatrice says, as politely as she can manage. She’s meant to start working tomorrow and she hasn’t even met the executive chef yet, outside of traded emails where she was swayed by the promise of full autonomy into leaving her position as pastry chef at one of the only restaurants in the city with three Michelin stars for a fledgling fusion tapas joint sandwiched between a pierogi stand and a vape shop on the lower east side that got an upstart Michelin star in its first year of operation.

Summary
The orange and yellow leaves from the two gorgeous Red Oaks in the backyard fell to the ground in true autumn fashion. It was colder this year, a storm front had blown through just a few days before Halloween and threatened to upend all her decorations in the front yard.
Her decorations, of course, began and ended with some spiderwebs and a plastic K-mart skeleton, but Ava did what she could.
