“We do not imbibe alcohol in this house,” Shufu seethes.
“It’s not alcohol,” Wei Ying corrects like he expected to hear this at some point. Xichen glances at Wangji, who’s making an expression Xichen has never seen before: unbridled exasperation and fondness. Then Wei Ying pulls out a pack of what Xichen is pretty sure is chili powder.

Lan Xichen was already standing on the porch, waiting for them.
Nie Mingjue stood next to him, a beer in his hand, both of them waiting for Lan Zhan and Wei Ying to arrive.
He heard Lan Zhan get out of the car. He saw him walk around the front of the car to his door. He felt Lan Zhan’s hands cupping his cheeks, forcing him to look at him as he knelt down next to the car.
“Wei Ying, everything will be alright,” He wiped away the tear that slid down Wei Ying’s face, “They’ve been mentioning how happy they are to have you here, with us, where you belong.”
Another tear slid down Wei Ying’s face.
“But what if I mess it all up again?”
