If you had asked Steve Harrington five years ago what he would be doing after high school, he would have believed wholeheartedly that he would be following in the path his father laid out before him. At age 20, however, Steve found himself breaking free of the mould he had been raised to fit.
His closest friends were a bunch of nerdy children he babysat, the girl he had thought he was going to marry had broken up with him (and he was glad she did), he had been rejected from every university he applied to, he was working a minimum wage job, and he was fresh off the back of his third near-apocalypse.
With the Spring Break of '86 on the horizon, Steve can't help but let himself feel hopeful. After all, how much worse can things get?or

Steve jerks awake, sitting up so quickly that Robin almost topples over and staring wildly around the room. When his gaze lands on Eddie, he blanches visibly.
“Oh, shit,” he mutters. “Come on, no. Come on. Not again.”
“Harrington?” Eddie asks slowly. He does not love the way that Steve is staring at him right now. He really doesn’t. Steve looks like he’s staring at a ghost, a bloodied monster, like Eddie is something that should not exist in the light of day. “You good, dude?”

Another Steve/Robin fake relationship fic! Even after their "Platonic with a capital P" conversation, I don't think Nancy or the rest of the party will just accept that Steve and Robin can be so close without dating. Love the '80s and heteronormativity!
But Steve and Robin use this to their advantage, because they're shady little shits.Steve and Robin's friendship is vaguely inspired by "it's a risk, it's a gamble" which is a Jonathan/Nancy/Steve fic! I'm not usually a Steve/Nancy or a Steve/Nancy/Jonathan shipper, but the portrayal of Steve and Robin's friendship, and Steve's view of the kids, is legitimately perfect.
