Popcorn = it doesn't have enough plot and/or character development to be anything more than shallow fun. Often coincides with the *feel-good label.
Full meal = character development, and/or world-building and/or plot is sufficient to make solidly interesting story. Read this when you have a free evening and want real meat for your mind to chew on.
Three course meal = something that really, really ought to be published, because it's downright gripping in both character development and plot. Savor this.
*Feel-good means something that doesn't do anything except pile on good feelings, generally by gradually or immediately fixing all the emotional pitfalls, angst, and physical/psychological defeats in canon. No real tension. After all, defeats and losses don't create good feelings, do they? Being a feel-good fic is not necessarily bad, but it's like eating candy: best in small doses, and not very filling. The Hedonic Treadmill is a thing.

Summary
The little lady was screaming, her eyes wide, and frightened, and blue. She was what society said was beautiful: tall and lean and curvy in the right places, white and golden haired and unblemished. If J was honest (and he always was, to himself), he thought she was gorgeous.
Takes place during The Dark Knight Rises. An origin story for Harley Quinn, as told through Joker’s eyes.

Summary
“Blessed Spirit, we thank you for the gift of this child’s life. We are forever in your debt.” The whole village is kneeling now, even the tiniest toddlers flopped down on their stomachs doing their best approximation of a bow. “Please, won’t you give us a name to call you? We would like to properly express our gratitude.”
Oh.
Well shit.
(Where Zuko saves a little Earth Kingdom girl from drowning, the villagers think he's a Spirit, build him a shrine, and long story short, a fake story about the Blue Spirit who dances with dragons suddenly becomes very real.)

Harry survived two killing curses, and had a hunk of a soul stitched onto his and then ripped off. He physically died and came back by magic hand-waving.
What if he didn't come back whole?
Dark popcorn.

Summary
Just before his climactic confrontation with David Martinez and the Cyberskeleton, Adam Smasher finds himself with a set of memories not his own. It came with a warning, that he would soon meet his end at the hands of some cyberpunk and the ghost of Johnny Silverhand, but he could avoid this if he recruited David and his crew and readied them for that fated encounter.
He wasn’t about to die to the ghost of some upjumped cheerleader. He was Adam fucking Smasher. He wasn’t about to die to fucking anyone.
That was a promise.

Bookmarker's Notes
There's a trope somewhere out there wherein the protagonist doesn't actually have a character arc for development, but instead the sidekick(s) develop. It can fall flat, or be nothing more than shallow popcorn. This story definitely does not fall into either trap. Adam Smasher's personality as a war-junkie cyborg is an entertaining anchor for the story (like following around that one Grumpy Grandpa), around which an entire supporting cast begins dragging themselves up to his level. And as the story is ongoing, we're starting to even see small changes in Adam's opinions too! Of course, this is on top of the usual prerequisites for an excellent story: tight action, dialogue, cohesive world-building, plot threads woven together in abundance... there's a fair amount of Cyberpunk 2077/Edgerunner fanfiction out there by now. This is the best I've come across thus far.
Full meal, likely three courses by the time it's complete.

Bookmarker's Notes
Three-course meal. 'nuff said. This is one of the best Star Wars fanfictions out there, on par with fics like Hull No. 721. Slow and heavily favors angst and political intrigue over action. The only real thing to criticize is that when combat scenes do occur, they're sometimes jarringly interspersed with political intrigue, which messes with pacing. This is only the first book in a trilogy; the rest are available on fanfiction.com.

“I am not cute! I will crush my enemies!”
But these people – her parents – had only smiled, and said –
“Of course you will, darling.”
“And you’ll make sure they never get up again.”
And, well. Wasn’t that refreshing?
