“You know what you need?” Kaz asks.
“A shock to the head?”
Kaz shakes his head. “A goddamn vacation."
For a moment, Chase almost lets himself picture it: a vacation with Kaz, to somewhere that he could explore to his heart’s content. Costa Rica or Cordoba, Tam Đảo or Taiwan.
But Chase can’t afford any of that.
Because the last time that he indulged a dream like this, everything fell to shit, and maybe if Spike had taken over, everything with Sebastian and Crane never would have happened, Chase’s heart breaking to pieces because he was stupid enough to let a cute boy get to his heart.
“We have a mission to execute here,” Chase says, "We can't get distracted by vacations-"
But Kaz doesn't flinch. “You deserve to be a person of your own," Kaz says, because he's more stubborn than the superheroes that he worked on, "Not what other people program into you. So just one day, if that makes you feel better. Lemme give you just one day."
(The times when Spike came out and no one blinked vs. the one time that Kaz finally saw that something was wrong, or: the times that Chase Davenport nearly ran away from home and the one time he realized that he had something to stay for.)

Summary
Valjean was never quite sure, in retrospect, what had possessed him to take a walk by the Seine after he took Marius to safety. But whatever the reason, he found himself doing so, idly listening to the rushing water as he walked downstream along the northern bank.
It was after midnight, in the early hours of the seventh of June, when he witnessed a scene that would haunt him for the rest of his life.We all know the Post-Seine genre, where Javert survives the river by Valjean’s intervention. Well, this fic’s almost like that... except for the tiny detail that Valjean’s just a bit too late.

Summary
He glances at the clock and grits his teeth, before ringing his mobile again.
No answer.
He will grant Mr Finch half an hour, no more.
It turns out he doesn’t need to though, because barely five minutes have passed before:
“I’m sorry I’m late, I’m so so sorry!”
A man comes through the door of the nursery, utterly soaked through from the rain outside.
His long black hair is plastered to his face and neck, dripping onto the white button up shirt he’s wearing. He’s not wearing a coat or jumper or anything to protect him from the weather and the thin white fabric has gone see through from how wet it is, clinging to his thin frame. Charles recognises him instantly as Cassie’s dad, as the man who has made the past hour an irritating waste of time for him. His forename escapes him, but he’s undoubtedly Mr Finch, just very wet, and no doubt very cold. -

Summary
“Chase?” Davenport watched as Chase stared at him with a deadpan expression, looking not the least bit impressed. “What are you doing?”
“He’s with me now, Donny,” Douglas gloated, throwing an arm around Chase’s shoulders, a determined glint in his eyes. His blood boiled at the self-righteous look on his brother’s face, Donald had always been the type of person to expect that things would go his way and Douglas was relieved to have something against him.
Douglas couldn’t help but see himself in Chase, especially after witnessing the way that Chase was used and pushed around by his siblings. Douglas’s childhood hadn’t been all that different, granted he and Donny never had any bionic abilities but the general environment wasn’t that different, he and Donny were always forced to compete for everything; food, free time, their parents’ affections - Douglas always seemed to lose out on that last one.
Bree and Adam exchanged a look when they saw Chase. They didn’t recognise the boy in front of them, this wasn’t the Chase they knew.
Chase accepts Douglas's offer and his family realise what they've lost
