Maxine doesn't seem to get it, however, and he can't blame her. He doesn't quite get any of this himself. Had never known Billy Hargrove to be suicidal up until now.
''Oh, real funny there, Steve, I'm not giving up my brother's number. I think he'd actually kill me for that, anyway did you — ''
''I'm not kidding, we don't have time for this, I promise you this isn't some joke Max!''
And how fucking ironic is it that this had all started because he was supposed to be grabbing Max's report. That he'd found a literal suicide note in the process. One that he'd never expected to find.
''Oh, okay, I um here, let me give it to you then,'' Max replies seemingly stunned. Thankfully despite that the girl reads off Billy's number to him. ''Now do I get a clue as to what's going on or —''
Or in which Steve finds a suicide note that Billy once wrote. Panic ensues.

Summary
Billy is having difficulty dealing with the events that unfolded at Starcourt Mall. It isn't the fact that he nearly died but rather the fact that he found death more peaceful than living a life that he hadn't asked for. At times he finds himself mourning the fact that he hadn't stayed dead. Found dying easier than living.
What happens when it causes Billy to spiral into a dark place? Refusing to eat, talk with anyone, and locking himself away in his room.
When Steve finds out will Steve be able to help while already mourning the fact that he nearly lost Billy?
Or will Billy be lost to those around him?
