Summary
They were heavily outnumbered.
Half of their soldiers were still in the Cession and there was no telling when they’d be back. Even if they made it back, they would be too late.
The Camarilla had stormed Fort Salem and were tearing the base down. It had been a sudden attack, no one knew why the protective border had been removed but it had and the Camarilla were running rampant all over the base, slicing throats and stealing vocal chords.

Raelle had started convulsing violently, feeling intense burning pain on every single bone in her body, it felt like someone was running red hot nails through her blood, ripping her skin off and digging their fingers into her flesh. Her legs had given way and she was on the ground, screaming and trying to alleviate the pain.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
Scylla who had been holding her was also convulsing violently on the ground. Whatever Hearst had done had made the mycelium inside Raelle explode and spread its spores to the person closest to her.

“Abs wait!” Tally replied before she too started heading back for the van. Sighing heavily, Raelle wondered how those two had saved the world but she too took off, knowing that Abigail would drive off without her.
But when she made it to the van, before Abigail could drive off, the door of the van slid open and two figures dressed in black combat suits and with masks on their faces threw themselves in which had Tally letting loose a high pitched scream that made Raelle and Abiail flinch.
“Craven shut it!” a familiar voice shouted which had Tally screaming even louder so Abigail placed a hand over her mouth while Raelle just stared at the two figures
“Anacostia?” Abigail asked and one of the figures removed their mask to reveal Anacostia before the other figure removed their mask too
“Hah I knew it!” Raelle exclaimed when Scylla just tossed her mask onto one of the seats

Penelope didn’t want to be here.
But she didn’t have much of a choice given what she had done earlier. Ever since the war with the Camarilla ended and her resurrection had been televised, she had felt more of an outsider as compared to before. Several cadets and officers blamed her for her father’s actions and almost everyone on base including her unit treated her like a disease, avoiding her like the plague.
Okay maybe she couldn’t fault them for the last one, she did nearly kill everyone on base when she was infected by the witch plague. But that wasn’t her fault either, her father had sacrificed her to the Camarilla to boost his career, what a dick.
Yet, there were those who didn’t it that way and blamed her for not stopping her father beforehand. And that warranted them to pick and start fight with her. Her unit were no help, they didn’t want to get involved with someone like her, the daughter of one of the leading members of the Camarilla even though she had killed him and the cruel doctor.

“Paintball? Really?”
Staring at the large banner that read “Paintball tournament” in bright red letters, Tally couldn’t believe that Nicte had planned for this. When she had invited Nicte to join the party, she didn’t expect the former Spree leader to agree to go let alone plan for something.
“Relax Red, it’ll be fun” Nicte smirked but Tally knew how competitive Abigail and Scylla were and this was not going to end well at all.
“Fun? Abigail’s already picking her gun and Scylla’s scouting the area out before we’ve even signed in, it’s going to be a bloodbath!!” Tally exclaimed as she gestured to Abigail who was carefully selecting her paintball gun and asking the clerk if he knew which type of gun inflicted the most damage while Scylla was using Morrigan to survey the area.

Summary
Scylla was furious at herself.
Why hadn’t she seen the signs? Why hadn’t she been there in time to save her girlfriend?
Replaying the events in her head, Scylla couldn’t believe that she had left Raelle all alone in the tent while she went into town to gather supplies. Raelle was sick and she should’ve been there to take care of her. Instead, Raelle was gone, swallowed up by the mycelium.
She knew that Raelle was scared but she wondered if Raelle knew that she had done everything she could to hurry back and stop her from being taken. She imagined Raelle waking up alone, sick with whatever that was plaguing her body and then being snatched away by the mycelium.

Then something caught her eye and she bent down to inspect. Hands shaking as she picked it up, Raelle stifled a cry from her lips when she realised that she was holding onto the blue bowerbird charm that she had gifted Scylla months ago at the Bellweather wedding. Crimson red coated the exterior of the charm, turning the blue into a dark shade of purple which did not help Raelle.
Looking around, she still didn’t see Scylla and she felt a little flutter of hope spring from her chest.
Could Scylla have survived the massacre?

Her answer was given to her when Scylla began to stir and Raelle immediately reached out to her. Monster or not, Scylla was safe and that was all that mattered at the moment.
