It's only happened a few times.
The first time he was thirteen, sleeping in his bed at home after another ER visit. Maddie had just left and he felt more alone than he ever had, and he woke up unable to move. At first he thought he'd hurt himself worse than the doctors had said, that he'd been paralyzed. He could still move his eyes and look around him in the dark room and he could still feel his sheets pressed against him as he was curled on his side. But he couldn't move a muscle.
He thought he would be stuck like that forever, staring into the darkness.
