Summary
It starts like this: a window smashes, a jester soars through it, and Branzy screams.
He can’t help it. Look, he’s new to this place, and despite all the warnings his old friends have given him, Branzy has never known when to glue his mouth shut. It’s worse when he’s caught off guard like this—a full-body scream escapes him before he can even think to can it. It doesn’t ground him, but it does draw the attention of the man that has just crash landed in his laboratory.
Eyes that feel like beetles on Branzy’s skin give him a long once over. He doesn’t know how he can tell, since the jester is wearing the full getup, a sharp-tipped circus mask to boot. Those eyes, though. Branzy doesn’t need to see where they land to feel them.

Summary
“We shouldn't feel bad about killing him,” Mapicc says, remarkably soft. They’ve known each other long enough that Mapicc can read Ro’s thoughts without him saying a word. “He’s fine by now. It’s not really murder, if you think about it.”
It’s not. It’s not murder if the victim sustains no wounds and has working organs by the end of it, can walk and talk and move as he pleases. Yet, his heart was on pause when Ro left him. His lungs were stopped. Blood? Free flowing. It’s not murder, but they did kill. It’s an innocence lost that can never be chased back down. How can one remain unchanged after seeing the life drain from pallid skin?

Summary
A harsh expulsion of breath and consonants fans across his cheek. It takes him a moment to order the vowels into a word: Branzy. He turns, facing the man who uttered it.
“Branzy,” Clown says again, more insistently. He's not laying down; Clown has never been so presumptuous as to sleep next to Branzy in Rek's bed, not without invitation. Instead, he's kneeling, one leg on the mattress and the other reaching for the floor. His hand hovers a few inches from Branzy's head. Two months is not enough time to erase uncertainty in the nighttime.
“Sorry,” Branzy responds quietly. His voice is hoarse. “Was I shouting again?”

Summary
For example, when he tilts his body the rest of the way over the counter, slotting his lips over Spoke’s, it’s flavored like cherries and illicit activity. When Spoke runs his tongue over the seam of his mouth, it tastes of bursting citrus and acidic words about men with men. He doesn’t dare grab Parrot’s chin, won’t bring himself to angle their faces and deepen it. The entire kiss lasts with the ephemeral sweetness of a snowflake on a tongue, ready to melt away the second the bell at the door rings.
They don’t need to exacerbate their differences. It’s bad enough, Spoke’s abnormal smoky skin and Parrot’s two-toned eyes. They don’t need anyone to see this, too.

Summary
It’s incorrect and inconsiderate to say her other half has been torn from her. No. Her brother did not make up a fraction of who she was, but he is a fracture, something that reaches its chasmic fingers through every fiber and takes until she is merely a host for the hatred he has always inspired. Is this what it is to be a little sister? A vessel for the sibling, a descendant of their legacy? The accident of her birth isn’t her fault, and neither is the accident of Kyle’s death, but her mother doesn’t see it that way. Her mother rarely sees things Kaboodle’s way.
