Until she watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer and saw Faith Lehane for the first time. There was no denying that. It’s hard to imagine the church has changed, but that look in her dad’s eyes. So fucking hopeful, that Alice can’t help but give in. “Alright, we’ll go. But! I can leave whenever I want.”

It’s three days before the GSA fundraiser event, at 11:23 PM, that Grace thuds down the stairs akin to the way a baby elephant stumbles. She throws herself into the living room, panting out breaths and the even worse-for-wear poster clutches in her shaking, sweaty hand.
“Mom,” she breathes out, her mom’s eyes jumping up from the book in her hands to her daughter standing in the doorway. “I need your help making a Jesus Christ drag outfit.”
A giant grin spreads across her face and she leaps up from the sofa, her book and the bookmark that falls to the floor forgotten. “I’m on it!”

Zoey frowns, face contorting in a mixture of annoyance and sickness at the sudden sway of Hailey leaning harder into her. “No—I’m serious. Date me.”

“What are you doing, babe?” Lex asks with a tired sigh, but follows willingly anyway. Hannah might joke she was whipped—she’s probably right. Still, Alice doesn’t answer. Not that she needs to. She positions their hands, it matches the typical slow dancing pose Lex has seen in all the movies. “You wanna a dance? You know I have no clue how, right?”
Alice shakes her head, forcing Lex’s hands to stay at her waist and wrapping her own hands around their neck. “Stop being a grumpy old man for once and have some fun with me. Indulge me, baby.”
Even now, Lex’s heart skips a beat at the pet name.

“Probably,” Lex agrees, and yet neither of them make a move to untangle themselves. “Do you want to stop?”
For a long moment Alice is silent in thought. She drapes her arm across Lex’s shoulders, which is an answer enough, but she says, “no, I really don’t,” anyway. All breathy and too attractive for Lex to handle.
There’s a beat. Another moment of silence. “Me neither.”
Alice drags her back with the squeeze of her arm around Lex’s shoulders, crushing them together.
Is this even as big a deal as she thinks it is?
