Max Verstappen has a mole on his top lip.
It’s on the left side, sitting right on the edge of where his pale skin ends and the pink of his lip begins. It is dark brown, contrasting with the otherwise light coloring of his face. It becomes more noticeable for him when he blushes, just like he is in this moment.
The realization that he’s close enough to stare at the mole again is what breaks Checo out of his stupor every time. It’s become his wake-up call these past few months, and he’s needed it more and more as time has gone by. Like always, he comes to himself backing up the young omega against something, in this case, the railing of the driver’s parade truck, with his left leg locking him into where he’s sitting on the corner.

“Huh?” Max angled his head so he could whisper back to Daniel. “We’re not allowed to drink on race weekends.”
“I know that. But drivers break those rules all the time, especially in Monaco. And it’s not like we’re doing it before the actual race. It’s just qualifying.”
“Qualifying is still important,” Max mumbled. He sounded like his father.
“I know, we won’t get completely trolleyed. Just a few drinks. I’ll even pay for yours.”
Daniel didn’t need to say any more. Max would do almost anything for him. A lifetime of training and discipline, years of behaving on race weekends while his peers let loose, all gone in an instant because he could feel Daniel Ricciardo’s breath tickling his neck.---

There’s a tremor in Charles’ fingers as he unties the orange bow, letting it slip from the table to the floor. His heart is rabbiting in his chest, beads of sweat forming on the back of his neck, anxiety pooling deep in the pit of his stomach.

“Open it,” the voice in his earbuds orders firmly.
He takes a shaky breath and slowly glides a sharp knife along the seam of the black package. It falls open revealing a protective layer of kraft paper that Charles removes. Then he sees it, the contents, the gift.

In the lights of the street, Daniel notices how the man Max is taking looks similar to him: tanned skin, curly hair, tattoos. It makes something inside him seethe. Max tugs the guy into an empty alleyway, back into the darkness where nobody could clearly see them. Daniel lingers in the light, not wanting to watch Max make out with a man who looks like himself. He hears a harsh 'oof' sound as a body hits the wall but doesn't hear any moans or wet kissing sounds. All it is only the odd sound of clothes against the brick or shoes against concrete. Then, a sharp sudden gasp, a splutter and Max's voice calling out, "Daniel."

Carlos is probably the most unreliable narrator he knows. Which is a kind way of saying he's a liar.
It's a tendency, a defensive mechanism to keep others away from his more vulnerable side despite the years of trust they might share. Carlos always adds a small detail whenever he talks with his mother, changes events and places when he talks to the media and turns trauma into a joke when he's with friends. Most of the time he doesn't register he's doing it until he reaches the end.
He mostly lies to himself as well. He can pretend ex-friends were kind when they weren't and that he never embarrassed himself during Checo's birthday party. The best example is the story of how he came to hate Austin and how he had (no) choice on the matter.

For as long as she could remember, Eilana Santos had looked up to Ayrton Senna as her inspiration, his face etched into her vision and her father reminded her that the man was the king of Brazilian racing. Since him, only one Brazilian Formula 1 racer was destined to host their country flag and when her father retired, Eilana Santos was destined to take his place.
Eilana knew she could never be Senna but she sure hoped to make Brazil just as proud in her and she was of him.

Max had decided that 2018 was going to be a good year. He had settled well into being the youngest ever Alpha to drive for Red Bull, grateful that he had Daniel by his side. But things don't always work out the way you think they will, or the way you want them to.
