Come to think of it, this had probably been Rachel’s idea. She always had a knack for outsourcing Alex to one of his friends when he was in a bad mood.
And he’d been in a bad mood for the better part of a few weeks now, working himself to the point of exhaustion like he had a tendency to do once every year or so. And since Greg was in Spain and Tim and Watto were getting ready for Edinburgh, apparently it had fallen to John to do what he could to help.
Whether it would help remained to be seen.

As much as Greg loved the losers and the manic whackos on the show, he also had a soft spot for those who put their whole heart into the tasks, and he’d had John pegged as that from the get. Largely because those who performed well usually bent over backwards to please him, and when it came to Greg’s ego, well, needs must.
But now he knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that John’s smugness had nothing to do with pleasing Greg. In fact, other than for the sake of his natural competitiveness, Greg suspected John wasn’t playing for his approval at all.
