Mussolini has taken power forcefully, through a march in 1922 on Rome he violently dissolved the elected parliament and instead made himself Prime Minister. To consolidate power he has tried to endear himself to the Vatican over many years, working on a treaty to end the 80 year imprisonment of the Roman Catholic Church and Pope. The intermediary between the Holy See and the Fascist Government is one Pietro Tacchi Venturi, a Jesuit priest. Venturi is a close friend of the Mussolini family and met Pope Pius XI during a research trip to a library. Now marked with the scandal of an assassination plot at the hands of a young male lover, Venturi must face the cruel side of Benito Mussolini and endure The Duce's wicked actions so the Vatican might be free.

Heya!
So uh quick trigger warning before ya'll get into this, this story involves some minor controversial elements since all of the characters are WW2 era fascists so some minor sexism and homophobia is involved but I think I at least managed these in an appropriate manner where hopefully they don't come off as cheap and edgy and problematic. Just to clarify I don't believe these things and they are being expressed by the characters in the context of the story and setting these are not things I believe nor are they things I advocate for to any regard.
So funny story behind this one, believe it or not, I'm actually a pretty avid Hoi IV player (Hearts of Iron IV) and know some people who also play the game. Two of these people recently played a game as Brazil and Italy and formed the Roman Empire and the Empire of the Sul (United Europe and americas basically) and had a massive hyperwar from 1949-1951. I was struggling for stories so they gave me the idea to just write about they're war from the perspective of a Roman refinery worker, so yea, just thought it was an interesting story to tell idk.
