Summary
Robby is the thing with feathers,
That perches deep in bone,
And sings through rooms of endless night,
A song he’s never known. He’s stood in halls of breaking glass,
Where silence screams too loud,
And stitched the breath back into souls,
Beneath a shrouded cloud. He’s carried blood upon his wings,
And grief within his chest,
Yet still his hands will never still,
When hearts demand their best. And sweetest in the fiercest storm,
When hope feels far away,
He folds his aching wings around
The living left to stay. And though his feathers fall like ash,
And shadows cloud his skies,
The thing with feathers never stops —
It learns, it fights, it flies. -

Summary
Soulmates were a gift from fate or whoever one believed in. For Jack Abbot finding one of his soulmates is easy enough, complicated slightly but otherwise easy but the other is complicated made more so by his assumptions and failure to communicate.
For Robby finding his soulmates is a journey of years, decades and struggles made even more complicated when one assumes the worst and he doesn't meet the other way until it's almost too late.
For Eric Vargas finding his first soulmate isn't really easy but it isn't complicated even if he is a little shit but his second one is very much a complicated situation and Jack doesn't help matters at all.

Summary
This isn’t a wheelchair,” She groans, standing again. “This is a medieval torture device, Jack.”
Jack shrugs. “It’s what I’ve got. Prosthetist’s fixing the leg.”
Her eyes narrow. “You wouldn’t let a patient go home with this, I know you.”
“I’m not a patient,” He mutters, logging into the portal and tuning her out.
She doesn’t let him. “You’re a patient right now,” She shoots back. “My patient.”
(Or, Jack’s prosthetic breaks and he needs a better wheelchair, a custom. Robby — the ATP/PT, fits him for one).

Summary
It’s well past two in the morning when Robby bolts upright in bed, the sudden jerk sending his reading glasses down the bridge of his nose.
Jack snuffles, groans, light lashes fluttering, his voice thick with sleep. “Wha — Mikey, what’s the matter? Is it your blood pressure again? Did you forget your pills?”
Robby shakes his head, suddenly sheepish, suddenly boyish in the light. “No, no. I just, I need to say I’m sorry… for calling you fat, that first day we met, like it was something shameful. It wasn’t. I just wasn’t prepared for how sexy you were and I —”
(Or, old men in love).

Summary
“Finally — ten long minutes later — the flow slows, thickens, stops. Akkie exhales loudly, relief mixed with exhaustion, pale and sticky but still upright. Mike adjusts his glasses, looking at him funny. “You’re a meshuganah. Fighting kids twice your size, bleeding like you’re dying, and you don’t even care.”
Akkie wipes his face on his sleeve, leaving a crimson smear, and smirks, crooked and stubborn. “Yup, don’t care. I’m gonna fight bad guys when I grow up. It doesn’t matter if I bleed — I’ll still win.”
Mike tilts his head, as though filing the words away in some private notebook with a grumpy sigh. “Then somebody’s gotta patch you up when you do. Guess that’ll be me then.”
(Or, Jack and Robby meet as Akkie and Mike in Hebrew School).
