The loneliness gnawed at him. But, anybody he knew wouldn’t…
Batman came to mind, for example. Are you finished? The one time Kyle tried to explain it. Are you finished? The tone reverberated through his spine. Condescending, tired, exasperated, and not in the fond way like Jen, John, Guy, any of those people were. Batman had sounded done.
Kyle imagined that, in a different setting, he’d feel rageful. The impulse to punch Batman in that moment had been a strong one, but the shaking in his lungs was stronger, and it kept him quiet. Quieter. Wally had snickered beside him, and the betrayal had sunk in deeper.

Kyle would rather not work with the Titans again, not after what happened, but he’s so tired of being alone. What the worse that could happen from one case?

The Titans try moving on after tragedy and show the League that they aren’t the same kid heroes they were when they started, and Kyle tries to find his place on Earth amongst heroes after the Sinestro Corps War. He’s not the only Green Lantern anymore.

“That… is not the greeting. Didn’t I write it down?” Wally’s voice is sleepy, half-slurred. There’s rustling of voices in the background, the high-pitched wheeze of a child’s laughter.
“People love my greeting.”
“No, it sucks. Have you-”
“Yes.”
Wally huffs into the phone. It crackles in Kyle's ear, an incompatible sound to the real thing; he wonders what Wally's breath would feel like exhaled against his neck, if his breath would smell like bubblegum he chews.

“It’s been a while since we just… hung out,” Kyle says as he lays on the mat they both spread out across the sand. The cool night air tickles his skin, and he exhales, looking back at Alex. He’s unsure when they started stripping and then making out under the blanket of stars, but it’s everything he’s ever dreamt of. She looks particularly satisfied— looking up at the night sky, her warm hands entwined with his.
“I know,” she says, her voice uncharacteristically soft. The stars continue to blink above them as if they were watching their entire exchange. Kyle licks his lips, trying to forget the urge to paint the incredible landscape, because there’s something else besides him that looks incredible.
