Summary
I must not tell lies… carved over and over on Harry’s hand, and damn, it really looks gruesome from third person. Snape rifles farther back, uncovering hours worth of memories of the punishment. Harry is unable to throw him off, and his shields are trying and failing to slam down on the intrusion.
After he’s seen Harry’s detentions for the past five days, Snape withdraws on his own, surprisingly gentle. Harry pants, disoriented from the forceful invasion of his mind. When Harry chances a look up, he’s dismayed to see Snape’s face is contorted in wrath. Harry says nothing, and he clenches his shaking fists to hide their trembling, staring at the floor.

“But there must be trust," Severus insisted. "A bond… or some sort of relationship between mentor and pupil for Occlumency to be taught correctly! The only bond the brat and I share is one of mutual loathing.”
“Now, Severus, you are an adult and a Hogwarts professor. Surely, you can find a way to mend broken bridges.”
Broken bridges? Broken bridges? There had never been a "bridge" to begin with! Not with Potter, the carbon copy of his school bully, who spoke, acted, believed himself so superior to anyone else he might as well be the second coming of his father. There had always only been damp planks slogging down a river which separated them on two opposite banks. No bridge to speak of.

Ooh the characters were super well written, this could have easily passed as canon! Heavy on the angst without having to worry about about sudden deaths, which was quite nice.

“You cannot outrun me Granger”, he screamed behind her. And as his voice echoed along the stone walls, Hermione realized she was alone, and that help was not coming.
She turned a corner, and was grabbed in a tight squeeze. Someone had taken hold of her by her waist and pulled her to a secret room, covering her mouth with his hand, disappearing behind an enchanted tapestry.
She could see the hallway as if there was nothing there, and Cormac passed still running after her with a hand over his side where the hex probably had hit him. But he couldn’t see where she was.
As soon as McLaggen left, the sound of his footsteps disappearing, the hold on Hermione’s waist loosened, and the hand left her mouth.
Praying to all the gods for her good fortune, trying to calm her breathing, she turned expecting to see Blaise Zabini, ready to thank him for saving her, and found herself speechless, as she observed Draco Malfoy standing in front of her.
In which our boy Malfoy saved Hermione and they start to meet secretly during their sixth year in Hogwarts.
