Player is a part of Team Red, but he's never on the field. He works from the shadows, encrypting data and harddrives so Carmen can continue taking down V.I.L.E. one step at a time. He's invisible, essentially invincible.

Living in the solitude of Sydney ridden with guilt, Gray doesn’t expect to find an angry teenager dragging him on a desperate mission to rescue Carmen after her Peru caper goes terribly wrong leaving the rest of team red indisposed.

Carmen was so tired. She just wanted... a break. Team Red was so much work. She loved the work she does, and the people she did it with, but with the enemies everywhere, and no recognition in sight anywhere, she just... needed a break.
But the life of a thief who steals from the biggest crime organization has no break. Hoping, praying that one would come in the form of those bumbling ninnies known as ACME, specifically one person.
Julia.
Jules was on an unrelenting hunt. She NEEDED to find Carmen, needed to rub it in Devineaux's face that SHE found him. Maybe Chief would promote her.
But if she was being completely honest... She also wanted to see that elusive woman, wanted to meet her, wanted to talk to her. She loved her, not like those oddities with all those letters. Just what she did.

As happy as Player may seem to help her, something about him isn't quite right.
Player isn't one to keep secrets from Carmen, but some things are more important than the truth. He's on a mission to protect her, and that is all that matters. He does what he does for a reason, and Carmen doesn't need to be any the wiser.
What she doesn't know won't kill her.
