He hesitated. It had been ten years but the habit of keeping quiet hadn’t faded. But-
He took a deep breath. “The scene is-” he stopped, voice cracking a bit. Cleared his throat and tried again, leveling his voice out into the neutral tone he used when describing a particularly gruesome set of facts. “The crime scene is the same as mine would have been.” Kogoro’s face twisted, eyebrows winging up into his hairline. Shinichi kept going. “If the poison had killed me. Same clothes, same pose, same head wound,” he tapped the barely perceptible scar on his forehead where the pipe had made contact all those years ago “same everything. It’s identical.”

A single auburn hair and Gin knew it was her and was surprised to discover it was Sherry who had taken the first move. Why is that I wonder? What past warrants their interaction on that snowy hotel roof; supplies the context of their witty banter on romance; led Gin to spill so much of her blood across the snow? Blood the color of roses: her favorite color. And yet left her so much unharmed.
This backstory spans from when Gin (26) and Sherry (19) meet for the first time when he shoots through her coat collar in order to threaten an insubordinate Organization member who was threatening her, until it meets up with canon. It covers the two years leading up to file 242: A White World. This story offers an explanation to questions regarding the context of Sherry’s interaction with Gin on the hotel roof by piecing together hints and theories about their past.
