Summary
One should never try to imitate the markings of a PLANT. This rule was implemented after Vash accidentally created a way to jump between universes from a scribble he (and his other selves) drew as a child on one of the walls in Ship Five.
Vash buried his face in his hands. “This can’t be happening…” He looked at his brother. “Why are you so calm?”
“I’m compartmentalising. You should try it.”
“Shut up, both of you,” younger-Nai ordered them.
Nai ignored his other self and went on asking Vash, “Was I always this demanding?”

Falling isn't always so bad. Sometimes one needs to fall, preferably with a safety net. Vash catches Nai on a particularly bad night, letting Nai fall for as long as he needed to.
“Would you like an invitation?” Nai gathered the energy to ask teasingly.
“Do I need one?” Vash responded, equally amused.
Nai’s smile was unbearably fond. “Never.”

They’d had plenty of sex, by now. And not all of it had been brought on by the heightened emotions of a near escape. Some of it had even been almost normal—a little tipsy, a little tired, uninventive and giggly. But never like this: in the liminal time between one day and the next, between the comfortable haze of drowsiness and haunted shadows of deep-sleep paralysis, in the abandoned shell of a well-loved home. Vash can only sleep hard when he’s drunk, and Wolfwood can only relax when he’s sixty miles south of nowhere. Neither of them are either of those things right now.
