O balançar sugestivo de sobrancelhas ruivas arranca uma risada de Lorena, que dessa vez é mais genuína. “Como eu disse, te escutar não é de longe um desprazer, Eduarda. Ou melhor, Juquinha.” Ela hesita. “Juquinha, que nem a bala?”
“Que nem a bala.” Eduarda dá um sorriso preguiçoso. “Prometo ser tão doce quanto.”
Lorena e Juquinha acabam se conhecendo um pouco antes. Certas coisas mudam. Outras, não. O sobrenome Ferette continua sendo um fardo pesado demais para suportar.

“I heard the most confusifying rumor today–”
She erupts in a gasp, whipping to face her roommate so fast that her little stool nearly topples over. “Elphaba Thropp, are you about to gossip with me? Whatever has gotten into you?” She waves the thought away and stands, ready to excitedly flounce around her roommate. “Oh, it doesn’t matter. This calls for a celebratiooon!”
“Do you know that everyone thinks we’re dating?”
Galinda freezes in her tracks. “Oh,” she says. “That one.”

Summary
“I just wanted to say I had absolutely nothing to do with the changes. I mean honestly, when they asked for recommendations I asked if I could be alone,” Galinda starts, gesticulating as she talks, launching into something that can only generously be described as a ramble.
More bewildered than anything, Elphaba can’t do anything but watch as words tumble forth from Galinda’s mouth, as she goes on and on, probably further attempting to absolve herself of any blame.
Suddenly, Elphaba remembers that she hasn’t actually seen who her roommate is…
And she’s got a sneaking suspicion that her assignment is standing right in front of her.
(Or: stage management should be easy for Elphaba, but the actors seem to go out of their way to make it difficult— namely Galinda Upland, her new roommate, hellbent on disrupting every inch of Elphaba’s carefully-laid routine.)

Perhaps it’s imprinted in her brain. She’s permanently scarred. Peachy, girlish, sunset hues resting forevermore behind her eyelids.Ugh, it just digs under her skin, somehow. Something about her, ever since they met. Something so difficult to name.

Summary
Elphaba tells herself she doesn’t care about birthdays.
She’s told herself that for years, ever since she was a young child and realized that her birthday was different.
“Your birth only made things harder,” her father had said once, not unkindly, just… stating a fact.
And so, Elphaba learned young that birthdays were a thing to endure, not celebrate.
She tells herself it’s because it doesn’t matter—because she has more important things to worry about than some arbitrary date, and that birthdays are frivolous, silly things.
Because the last time she let herself want something on this day, she was told in no uncertain terms that she shouldn’t.
So, she doesn’t expect anything now.
She never does.
Which is why, when she accidentally lets a ‘not so secret, secret’ slip in front of Galinda, she immediately regrets it.
Because Galinda, despite the image she portrays, listens, watches, and notices more than anyone else in her life.
