But as he scans the room and lands on a mirror, he finds himself staring into the hazel eyes of none other than Will Byers. His mouth drops open, but it’s all wrong, because his mouth has never looked like that before in his life, all plush and—
Well. It’s just wrong.
Or: in early 1986, Mike and Will wake up in each other's bodies, halfway across the country from their homes, families, and everything else that was becoming familiar during their time apart.

“hey guys i figured out exactly where i am, i’m super close to h-“ his blood runs cold when he spots a familiar looking person peering from a tree, he leans forward before he lets a shaky breath out,“will?..” he drops the walkie, breaking the signal scope.
he can hear muffled voices, most likely Nancy? maybe Joyce, calling out to him but all he can focus on is the boy lifting a rifle towards him.

Summary
You've heard of Bravebyers, the AU where regular Mike and Mike the Brave switch places, and Wisewheeler, the AU where regular Will and Will the Wise switch places. So here's a story about regular Mike, and a Mike from a Will Byers was never found AU. Entirely based on this tumblr post.
Just before a crawl, the world seems vaguly wrong for Mike. His friends are acting weird, talking around him and not seeming to trust him. He's getting pitying looks from everyone around him. Worst of all, he can't seem to find his best friend anywhere. Was this all because he has weird feelings about his recent break up?
At the same time, another Mike's spent the past few weeks plotting how he could sneak into the next crawl. Suddenly, it seems so much easier.

Will Byers never made it home after the unassuming night of November 3rd 1983.
Mike wheeler never stopped looking, even after Joyce Byers returned from the upside down without a body and without hope.
Now in 1988, the death toll only grows in Hawkins Indiana. The sick get sicker, the bodies mount higher, and all the while something strange lurks beyond the trees.
